Don’t for one minute act like gays are ‘oh so oppressed and mistreated.
All you people do is start [edited] and threaten what you are going to do next in order to get your way.
Marriage has already been defined by God as the sacred union between one man and one woman’…and I suppose you are just going to come along and changed GOD’S words? You must really think you are someone important…well you are not. Go be gay and shut up…if you want to call it something else such as unionizing then do so. But don’t for one minute try and disgrace the sanctity of marriage with your freaked up version of it. And also, California voted and the majority won. So why all the mass hate for what they chose? You all didn’t get your way and want to bash heterosexual citizens for not accomdating you and your twisted beliefs.

The people that call in gay will make it easier for management to figure out who gets downsized because of the troubled economy… This cant be a good idea anytime, especially during this recession.

The push for same-sex marriage is pushing for the right to do something based on the idea that it feels right. A moral standard exists, and that standard is NOT individual emotions, no matter how strong they are. People are not born gay, as politically-incorrect as that statement may be. We are all born with a sin nature along with genetic predispositions coupled by our own experiences that fuel desires do things, but none of this absolves us the ability to choose a lifestyle. We were also given the free will to choose between right and wrong. Various definitions of “love” that we FEEL are not justification for sin and shouldn’t override what we KNOW to be true. An absolute standard is that men and women were designed for each other. Anything we feel passionate about doing and lobby for outside of that is unnatural and wrong, despite of how “right” it may feel, and it will bring harm like any other sin. A concept that many find too “narrow-minded” or “religious” to accept is that the Bible IS our moral standard for behavior, and it condemns homosexuality, so the only option to get to do what we want is to redefine what the Bible says until it suits our agenda or to ignore it altogether. This is the source of the problem.

Gay people should be treated similarly as non-gay people. They should also be given the right to marry the person they truly love. Nothing would be lost if same-sex marriage would be legalize. I haven’t heard of any good reason yet why such kind of marriage should be prohibited.

Alan – You’re just ignorant if you claim to be a gay republican. The GOP is an extremely oppressive party and threatens the very essence of your being gay. No one told you to call into work today, nor did anyone call on your behalf- but for those of us homosexuals who actually take our human rights seriously, you’re a joke and stand in the way of our goals. You might as well go back in the closet – or are you even out?

And John, yes, gays should ban together but not at the expense of staying oppressed in this country. And your last paragraph makes no sense – who cares if we’re only 1% of the population?! The point is creating awareness and WE WILL and ARE missed at our jobs, I guarentee you.

Oh Edward, why the name calling, pigeon-holing and belittling? Shouldn’t Gays work together, even when they disagree on tactics?You said the purpose of the Gay-off is to increase visibility and awareness of the issues. Isn’t that what the Gay day out would do, since the ones not working would instead be doing community service? That ought to get a lot of attention. Community service sure works for the Mormons, but then they don’t all skip work to do it.

Warning: If all the Gays take off to do community service, it might just backfire. If all the Gays really do take off and try doing good, America might just find out three things: Gays really are only about 1% of the population, not 10%; They won’t be missed that much at work; and they don’t accomplish much community service. Think about it.

What a typical Republican remark, Alan. Even if you had not self-identified as a Republican I would have known you were one by the “share my views or you’re an idiot” attitude.

Organizers are urging people to call in “gay” not to call in “sick” or “afflicted”. In fact, calling in “sick” defeats the purpose of this action which is increasing visibility and awareness of the issues.

Nor are organizers urging that participants call in “gay” for someone else. Every person is free to call in “gay” for themselves or go to work as usual. That’s another concept many Republicans have trouble comprehending. It called “freedom of choice” and “exercising one’s own free will”.

Perhaps you don’t care about gay marriage or gays in the military or any of the numerous other gay rights issues but that’s OK. I know many gay Republicans who don’t care about those issues.

Those of us who do care, however, simply hope that you follow your own advice to “shut-up and get to work”. While your working away in your tiny narrow-minded cubicle those of us who do care will be out trying to create positive change in our communities.

And if you someday pull your head out of your sandbox and realize that you do care then you, too, can benefit from our efforts and actions.

Well many conservative party members often treat GLBT folks as if they were sick and ill. This would be a way to create a sense of irony in the situation. If I’m sick and less deserving of equal rights than I guess I can’t make it to work. It makes perfect sense to me. Striking against economic oppression (economic oppression being when you don’t allow others to marry and take care of each other) is exactly the way to make changes. Striking is a form of debate. Striking can be a stronger way to call attention to the value of one’s work. Think about it.
