As a divorced mother of three trying to support them alone, I did not have time or energy to review their homework every evening. The schools are paid generously to educate our children. If they cannot do their job without parental involvement, they they are not doing their job. My parents were never involved in my homework. If I didn't do it, I got the backlash at school, or the bad grade. I had a full time homemaker for a mother. I had no homework in elementary school. A few assignments per week in Jr. High, and several assignments a week (still not nightly) in high school. I was graduated in 1972 and a few years later CLEP tested through an entire year of college. What were teachers doing then that they aren't doing now? They were educating us instead of spending 6 hours a day socially indoctrinating children to be unable to deal with criticism, to be in utter terror of global warming and to hate their parents. The time I was at home with my mother, she reared me, taught me manners, had me do my chores and other mother stuff...ummm like letting me run wild, climbing trees, hiking, playing neighborhood games of hide and seek, baseball and football. If the schools would stop trying to do the parents' job, and start doing their own job of educating (you know teaching children to read and write, then teach them the materials on history, geography, mathematics, literature, etc....does anyone remember that stuff), then we would have well-reared and educated children. Now we are getting uneducated children who are parented one way at home and another at school (just watch any Hollywood movie about teachers, and the bad guy is inevitably the parents) and no one, but no one is bothering to educate them. I had to spend thousands and thousands of dollars on Sylvan Learning Centers and private schools to get my children educated, because the schools were too busy selling them on the dangers of global warming and the rest of their socialist political agenda. My youngest spent 4 years 2 in Jr. High and 2 in High School being educated on the internet. He averaged about 1.5 hours of actual study time per day. Both times, after 2 years of internet schooling, when he returned to the public schools, his grades were all A's and B's and subsequently dropped throughout the year. He was able to educate himself better as a 12-yr-old, at home alone with his computer in 1.5 hours per day than the schools could educate him in 6 hours per day. It is a total disgrace.
