Video: Fred Thompson on the Economy
If only this man would have been elected. Sigh!
Wonderful sarcasm:
There have been a lot of good ideas as to how to get this money into people’s hands quickly. Some have suggested, for example, that we drop it by airplane. But that leaves something to be desired. Some people will have bigger rakes than others. It won’t be distributed equitably. My favorite stimulus idea is to give everybody who needs a job a shovel. We put half the people to work digging holes. We’ll get the other half to fill em up. Everybody gets a check and the unemployment problem is solved. And there’s no limit to the number of holes we can get Americans to dig and fill.
…and now to the gentlemen at my last lecture who said that this sounded like telling a fat guy that the way to lose weight is to eat more donuts…I can only say that there are clearly some among us who still don’t quite understand the sophistication of the economy.
Heh! Obviously Fred is still interested in politics. Think he will run again?
So this Holiday season be extra nice to the kids. Bless their hearts they have no idea what’s in store for them. But, of course that’s their problem. Our job…your job, this holiday season, is to follow the lead of our government. Spend more than you can afford. More than you can ever possibly pay back. “Ask not what your country can spend for you … ask what you can spend for your country.”

Really, I’m so tired of people sighing for FDT for the White House. If he’d wanted it, he’d have run for it. He clearly did not want it, so stop fantasizing. Just because he’s interested in politics does not mean he wants to be president. Interest does not translate into “want to lead” and a talent for making valuable videos does not translate into leadership.
STOP THINKING LIKE WE ARE IN 2008
Well, we are in 2008 but we are going to have to think forward. I don’t want any of the 2008 losers to even be considered in 2008.
Did we have a chance to look at Fred’s voting record and didn’t we find out that what you see is just an act.
Voting Records – Not Words. Words can change.
Here is another video about Thompson

I agree with Steve. Stop using 2008 thinking. We have some great candidates going forward, especially the governor of Louisiana. None of the 2008 Republican candidates for President were true conservatives (well none of the major ones were) and the sooner they fall into the dust bin of history the better,
I am not a conservative but I play one on TV.
That is what I think when I see this clip. Fred Thompson is a cynical insider and when you look at his voting record not as conservative as he portrays himself as.
We don’t need old faces. We don’t need old thinking. We need a return to conservatism within the Republican Party.
“Well, we are in 2008 but we are going to have to think forward. I don’t want any of the 2008 losers to even be considered in 2008.”
Of course I meant 2012. All the major candidates for President in 2008 were RINOS. Why would we want them back for a repeat performance?

Here’s an update: Fred Thompson did run for president. His campaign ranks up there with Rudy Giuliani’s in terms on ineptitude. To all you other losers still moaning about this past election, I hope you get at least 8 years of it, as the rest of us have had to deal with G.W.
Here’s a few inconvient truths for Fredheads:
1) Over 80% of the total national debt has accumulated under Reagan, Bush 1, and Bush 2,
2) The stock market has gained twice as much under D’s than R’s,
3) R’s had the presidency the last 8 yrs and Congress for 12 of the last 14 yrs, and the majority of governorships when this mess was created,
4) The Iraq war cost is projected at $3T. I don’t remember Fred mentioning that in his lecture on govt waste.
5) Every credible economist knows that govt retraction was the cause of the 1930’s depression. I fail to see how everyone and the govt putting their money in their mattress will get us out of this mess.
6) I seem to recall the last Prez to deliver a good economy and surplus was a D.
Yep, we need more forward-thinking like Fred.
Dimocrate = Spend
Liberal = Spend
Progessive = Spend
The Dims will spend uncontrollably because this is the way the get into power by promising to increase spending on programs for irresponsible, uneducated, parasitic people that could not survive without government taking money from others to give to these leaches!
This is the reply I sent to my family after I got the link to this site…
I didn’t quite get the message… It is full of simplistic sarcasm, but this guy is hardly telling anything new. What can we do? The message I got is that Obama is to be blamed!
JFK said “ask not what your country can do for you, but ask what you can do for your country.” And he got killed! I know you guys worship Bush, but all this mess is happening on his watch and he is not known to have done anything to prevent it, but there is plenty of evidence that he is the biggest contributor of all this mess!
I strongly suggest that you guys PAY UP anything that you bought on installments ASAP…!!! House, car, credit card and NEVER BUY ANYTHING ON CREDIT AGAIN!
If we are going to be hit by any hyperinflation it will be much more bearable to pay as you go… and to spend or invest any money that you earn or get ASAP. Forget about any savings! This is not a controlled economy and any savings will be severely penalized!
The Dollar may loose its value internationally (is it planned?). If so a new currency will have to replace it. I don’t think that this is in our best ideological interest, but we need to be alert and do the right adjustments.
The wrongful war in Iraq is eating up all the money that we can possibly print…!!! There is plenty of evidence that Bush planned the war in Iraq before 9/11. This war turned out to be more expensive than ever dreamed! Somebody in the White House wrote a book about it that hardly anybody likes to read.
It is funny that the capitalists in Wall Street walk away with all our 401K money AND BUSH IS NOT AFTER ANYBODY…! That shows his sensitivity to grass root people’s needs! BUT AS A LOYAL CAPITALIST HE IS BAILING OUT THE INSTUITUTIONS THAT PROVOKED THE MESS WE ARE IN! You and I know that if that money was given to the taxpayers they would place it where the needs are and the Capitalists would have to follow the market needs, but now the smart Capitalists/Bankers are the ones safely and securely rulling the waves!
So far Obama is not appointing any far left wingers to any position in his government. Whatever Obama will do to correct the mess we are in remains to be seen. So far no president elect was as heavily secured as he is…! It will be a miracle for a black president to take us out of the Bush mess because things will REALLY get much, much worse regardless of who is running the government…
I do not believe that having the Government paying some Americans to dig a hole in the ground and paying some other Americans to cover it is a wise statement! It shows how strongly far right biased is the message on the video clip! I take it as an insult! I know that a lot of far right wingers feed on it! Free enterprise creates the jobs that are needed in our economy. The government uses the taxpayers’ money to provide roads and bridges and maintenance, but not bail out money to capitalists that are walking away with OUR MONEY! That is not what I heard on the video clip…
I have been an extreme right winger most of my life… I even voted for Bush! But I am waking up…! Don’t let your mind be hijacked by some smart talking politicians…
BTW, the simplistic philosophy about giving you taxpayer money so that you can go out and buy stuff is to promote business so products can be manufactured (even in China!). Without money nobody buys and business go broke. That is the whole idea about Bush policy of giving people “free” spending money! We are honestly living beyond our means… only for political reasons!!! Our wealth is artificial regardless of who runs this country! And this philosophy can’t run like that for ever!
