I’m sure all the Sarah Palin wardrobe critics will come out about this one too! Right?
Michelle Obama is to receive this £20,000 thank you from her husband for her support during the election.
The Harmony ring is made of rhodium – the world’s most expensive metal –and encrusted with diamonds. It is being hastily made by Italian designer Giovanni Bosco in time for January’s inauguration ceremony.
Only about 25 tons of rhodium are mined each year, mostly in South Africa, and as a result its price is typically around £5,000 an ounce.
The stunning thank you ring is made by top Italian designer Giovanni Bosco, who are based at Valenza Po near Alessandria and who counts a select list of VIPS’s and celebrities as his clients.
Rhodium is one of the world’s most precious metals and as a result only about 25 tons are mined each year and as a result its price is higher than gold – typically being around £5000 an ounce.
Bling bling! How generous of Obama! I’m sure this is his first step to stimulate the ailing economy and show he is a man of the people. Way to flash the cash while the rest of us are tightening our belts. True leadership! The ring costs what a lot of Americans make in a year!
If you have that much excess cash, why not donate it to Michelle’s favorite charity as a thank you? What a waste!

WASHINGTON (AP) — Looks like Michelle Obama won’t be setting aside her fake pearls in favor of a $30,000 thank you ring from her husband.
London tabloids reported that President-elect Barack Obama was buying a pricey rhodium ring from Italian designer Giovanni Bosco for his wife. But there’s no truth to the report, said Obama spokesman Dan Pfeiffer.
The rumor began overseas and made the rounds of American blogs, including the Drudge Report.
The office of Giovanni Bosco, reached in northern Italy, also said the reports were incorrect.

Well, Seven Seas, all you have to do is look on the outside of the box- you’re always complaining here about how evil socialists and communists and what not are going to tell you how to spend all your money, and that you can spend it any way you want. But then somebody you don’t like, WITH THEIR OWN MONEY (unlike Palin) decides to buy somebody he loves something very expensive and you go all crazy and start screaming foul. So it’s not Obama who’s being a hypocrite here- he’s just spending his hard earned cash. Right?

Well, if it were true, I’d think it would be nice, he has a right to buy something nice for her. Basically it would be none of our business one way or the other. However, I know that this is coming from the election losers. I wish everyone could just get on board and let’s move this country to a better way and day. As we see he is starting with the White House and bringing oponents to the table to work together. Let go of the trivial stuff and lets move on to what’s real.
Moving on to “what’s real”. Where were the “Obama winners” in January 2001. They wanted no part of “getting on board and moving the country forward”. We “election losers” can already say “we told you so” as it becomes apparent the Clintons have managed to pull of the biggest coup of all in a “vast left wing conspiracy.” This country will need the “election losers” to clean up the mess again when they are gone–if there’s anything left to clean up.

Hey Mark: The last two years have been under the jurisdiction of Ms. Pelosi and the Democrats of the congress. Things weren’t too bad until they took over. But then they had to gridlock and waste time so they could make President Bush look as bad as possible. We’ll see what happens in the next election in 2010.

I suppose the answer to that is that the public decided the Republicans were the problem in congress, with them filibustering and stopping the Democrats from passing useful. So the voters gave Democrats even more power in Washington.

Oh, Mark, I didn’t say Bush was perfect. I just have trouble dealing with someone who wants “to spread the wealth around” and who wants to “tax the rich” when he doesn’t have a definition of who “the rich” are. At last count, it was anyone making $60,000 a year.
I really don’t care for socialistic views. And believe me when I say, I know what it means to be poor and desperate. Been there. I worked hard. Did without. Now I help others–a lot. I don’t need a filter between me and my charities–namely the federal government headed up by a money grubbing socialist. Tell me, if Mr. Obama is so socially minded, why are we having this discussion about Michelle’s ring? Why not spread some of THAT wealth around?
