Lefty Repub. Collins Mad at Dems For Their Election Attacks

Senator Susan Collins, the lefty Republican from Maine, has crossed the aisle to vote for the Democrats’ bills and policies more than some Democrats have over the last 10 years. She is pro-abortion, pro-Cuba, pro-fetal stem cell research, anti-gun, anti-free trade… well, the list of things she is for and against seems to follow the Democrat’s path straight down the line richly earning her the title of RINO (Republican In Name Only). Because she is such a reliable Democrat friend one might think that the Democrat Party would be on her side in her 2008 re-election bid, or if not on her side, exactly, at least not too fired up to defeat her in her re-election bid, at least.
But, no. In fact, the Democrats lined up in ranks deep and long to attack her with some of them even going to her district to campaign against her. Even her colleagues in the Senate came to her state to try to defeat her, quite despite the fact that she voted their way at nearly every opportunity. And Collins is a bit upset by that fact, too.
Quite a few of her Senate colleagues campaigned to defeat their “friend” in that chamber during the 2008 campaign season. Among the Democrat Senators that campaigned against Collins were Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), Sherrod Brown (D-Ohio), Jon Tester (D-Mont.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.) even Democrat Whip Dick “Turban” Durbin (D-Ill.) attacked her.
That’s not much gratitude shown by Democrats for Collins’ efforts to cross over from her own party to vote their way so often, is it?
Well, according to The Hill, Collins herself is admitting she was hurt by the massive effort by her Senate “colleagues” to beat her.
Collins told colleagues at a small Senate prayer breakfast meeting last week that she still felt lingering resentment toward Democratic senators who campaigned against her in Maine.
She confessed that she had “trouble forgiving colleagues” who traveled to Maine and told voters she was “a Bush clone and called into question her ethics,” said a senator who attended the meeting.
Collins won her election with 61.5% of the vote and the efforts of the Democrats was wasted, fortunately for her.
But, here is the whole point. Why should a Republican so often cross that aisle? What will it get them? It certainly doesn’t get cooperation or gratitude from the left. In fact, it seems to get powerful forces lined up to defeat you. It also shows that Democrats do NOT want to work with their opposites. Their claims of being “bipartisan” is nothing but a lie.
Maybe Susan Collins will wise up from this experience?
If I know my RINOs, though, she won’t be.

It’s their only move. It’s all that they’ve got,and it’s all that they’ve ever had.

Well, boo hoo! Now you and John McCain can go trade stories about how stabbing your own party in the back and kissing Dim feet didn’t work out as you had hoped.
Do conservatives a favor and just go away.
This Republican enthrallment with bipartisanship is beginning to resemble a kind of political “Stockholm syndrome.” And why not? The Democrat Left and media are the captors of our culture, and have conditioned weak conservatives to believe they can only retain their social and human worth by giving in.
The “independent” Jim Jeffers, the two Maine RINO’s, Joe Lieberman, and the socialist will be enough to get the 60 votes needed to ramrod the socialist agenda on the new U.S.S.A. We’re toast!
Rocketman
Collins was first elected by defeating Thomas Andrews in 1995. Andrews was promoting an anti-gun agenda. Gun owners in Maine and New Hampshire (myself included) along with the NRA supported Collins because she made pro-gun statements. Lying is a natural thing for RINO’s.
This is a perfect example of why all these idiots who call themselves moderates need to just switch parties. If you vote with Dems more that the Republicans why the hell, are you still in the party. And the fact that you are hurt and surprised by the Dems campaigning against you shows how little common sense you have. Hey [edited] its called an election and they want to win you idiot.
I love seeing right-wingers squirm! I’ts about time. Truth is,your agenda is dead, or nearly so. Try having some compassion for your fellow humans, whoever they are, and maybe the rest of the world will listen to what you have to say. The days of “I’ve got mine, the h__l with you!” are thankfully over. Power to the people, power to the people, power to the people, right on! Go Barack, go, restore America!
The traditional New England Republican was fiscally conservative (don’t spend more than you make and save up for a rainy day) and socially moderate-liberal. (live and let live) Over the past 3 decades it has been taken over by neo-cons and the religious right who are neither fiscally conservative (cut taxes and spend more) and socially conservative to the point where they have more in common with the taliban than other Americans.
You can marginalize them and call them RINOs but as my in-laws say, “We didn’t leave the republican party the republican party left us.”
When Reagan was elected you got our bigoted, ignorant dixicrats and bit by bit all of the educated, moderate repuclicans have come over to our side. You are etremists and you don’t want want to listen to anyone who doesn’t think exactly the way that you think that’s why you lost the election and thats why you won’t be coming back anytime soon.
Just cross the isle and stay there.
Hey Matthew, are you in some parallel universe? So Reagan was the downfall of the Republican party? I’ll bet your lib buddies put you onto that whopper. Moderate (and educated) “repuclicans” (whatever that is)have come over to your side. Hey Matt. Your side can have all the moderate (translation: closet liberal leftist educated) “repuclicans”, whatever they are. I’ll take a Reagan conservative of any stripe any day of the week. Unfortunately we haven’t have one nominated for president since ‘88. But watch out, Lefty. Several are in the wings for 2012.
I’ve always thought that liberals and their imitators are nothing but a bunch of lying, traitorous thieves.
They live high on the fruits of their thefts wrapped in their own arrogance and sense of entitlement whilst working to impoverish the rest of us (figuring that there is only a finite amount of wealth and comfort on this earth to be had and anyone else getting ahead in life threatens their comfy existence).
Hey Susan … maybe now you recognize that there is no honor amongst thieves … and who your real friends ought to be!!
