Giving yourself credit for not making fun of someone with a lethal disease, whilst your political betters have chuckles over a loudmouth having her jaw wired shut is the epitome of self aggrandizment. There is absolutely no moral equivalent between the two.

Pat Robertson, ultra-conservative, actually called out for the assasination of President Hugo Chavez of Venezuala. That’s a bit lower on the scale than chuckling over a talk-show host having a mouth wired shut.

Uh, brain cancer vs. a broken jaw…the right never has gotten irony or situational ethics! I hope she recovers completely, but there is humor in this situation that just doesn’t exist for Ted. Poor example that shows the inability to reason clearly when it comes to the emotional content of their “heroes”. Bush and Palin would be other examples. If Obama messes up I hope we at least have the sense to see it and not play the kind of games conservatives have for the past 8 years.

I like Ann. I noticed that when she writes books she cites facts, documents them with real footnotes that can be checked and verified, and uses clear language that everyone can understand what she means. Like a lot of lawyers, she uses an inflammatory style to get people to pay attention to her work, but it reminds me of the humor of Abbot and Costello. And it works: she sells books, and people pay attention to her opinions.

“Page 6 reports that Ann Coulter has broken her jaw and it is wired shut. (Pause). I suppose you thought I was going to make a joke about it? (Long pause) Now what could I say that would make it funnier?”

Ann Coulter is a character test for me…can I remain calm while listening to her rant and rave, distort, foment hate, etc. I usually fail the test.
