Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens loses re-election bid
Posted on November 18, 2008
Why this is news, I have no idea. The man was crazy not to resign and concede after a conviction!
ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Sen. Ted Stevens, the longest serving Republican in Senate history, narrowly lost his re-election bid Tuesday, marking the downfall of a pillar of the U.S. Senate and Alaska icon who apparently couldn’t survive his conviction on federal corruption charges. His defeat to Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich moves Senate Democrats closer to a filibuster-proof 60-vote majority.
The rest of that article talks about how ancient he was and insults his age and stuff. There was plenty of room left to insult his actual corruption crimes, but very little was mentioned on that for some reason. Anyway, what can one say? I’m not surprised, and good ridance! Your greed tarnished the Republican party. Meanwhile, William Jefferson who was caught with $100,000 cash in his freezer and evidence of bribery and corruption may win another term. Of course that is different…he is a Democrat. Hot Air is counting seats.
The NY Times has a better summary than the AP.

Maybe they didn’t want to elaborate because it is a “bipartisan” corruption regime, and airing a few crumbs might catch one of the media’s Democrat lackeys! Stevens was just the only one dumb enough to get caught!! And although I’m a lifelong Republican, I’M GLAD!!!
He’s the CREEP who voted against removing Clinton after the impeachment. Recall that after the Paula Jones trial / the Juanita Broderick rape stories, etc. Ted Stevens came out and said “he didn’t care Clinton had killed somebody, they still wouldn’t remove him from office”!!!
What goes around, comes around.
I think it is kind of strange how Democrats seem to gain votes when there is a recount. Steven was declared the winner on the election day count and then more Democrat votes appeared for the recount. I guess if you are a Democrat you can even vote after the election.
Stevens needed to retire. He was a RINO at best and a another semi-maverick like McCain. Its not like they lose their %100 penison and health benefits, he will have to give up the goodies from all the pork he’s spread around for years.
I’d like to Byrd and a few others that are way past their prime retire. Some have no shame and are just barley seat warmers.
Good riddance.
Another example and good reason for Term Limits.
No Representation in NorCal
Hey Kerwin, there was no recount. They’ve been counting absentee ballots. Like O’Bama, the democratic incumbent encouraged early voting when campaigning. It would stand to reason that many of the early votes were for the democrat, and especially in areas where he was running higher in the pre-election polls.
All of America loses when we have these recounts and extended voting periods. If our country really cared about fair voting they would do away with recounts and electorial votes. Computers are fast enough to give us a popular vote count within hours of the polls closing. Senator Steven’s should not be allowed to run after his conviction nor should he receive retirement for felonious acts.
I am a Democrat and I am glad to see Stevens go and will be even more pleased if my party gets rid of Jefferson.
