Video: Good Morning America Interviews Terrorist Bill Ayers
Posted on November 14, 2008
Breaking his silence, Ayers told Chris Cuomo on “Good Morning America” today that the GOP attack was a “dishonest narrative…to demonize me.”
He added, “I don’t buy the idea that guilt by association should have any part of our politics,” he said.
Ayers scoffed at the Republican effort to make his ties to Obama appear suspicious.
“This idea that we need to know more, like there’s some dark, hidden secret, some secret link,” Ayers said. “It’s a myth thrown up by people who want to exploit the politics of fear.”
But he was unapologetic about his militant actions during the Vietnam War.
“What you call the violent past, that was a time when thousands of people were being murdered every month by our own government… We were on the right side,” he told “GMA.”
The co-founder of the Weather Underground was, as McCain has claimed, unrepentant about the the bombings his group committed during the 1960s.
“The content of the Vietnam protest is that there were despicable acts going on, but the despicable acts were being done by our government… I never hurt or killed anyone,” Ayers said.
“Frankly, I don’t think we did enough, just as today I don’t think we’ve done enough to stop these wars,” he said.
Ayers, 63, currently a distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago, became a political piñata for McCain, R-Ariz., and Palin during the presidential campaign.
Despite Obama’s attempt to portray their relationship as a distant one, Ayers, in a new afterward to his book “Fugitive Days,” describes Obama as a “neighbor and family friend.”
Tom McGuire does a good job calling Ayers out on his lies:
I lack a transcript but early in the interview (from -5:52 to -5:30) Ayers avers that he first met Obama at a campaign kick-off which occurred in the second half of 1995. That bit of posturing had briefly been the official Team Obama position as well but was abandoned when it became clear that Obama and Ayers had worked together on the Chicago Annenberg Challenge in the first half of 1995.
A bit later in the interview Ayers backpedals and volunteers that he had served on a board to with Obama prior to the campaign event but at no point did “reporter” Chris Cuomo challenge him with specific facts. Cuomo limited his toughness to an abstract defense of the public’s right to understand Obama’s friendships as part of evaluating Obama’s character. (Ayers claimed that this was guilt by association.)
“We never committed terror,” he assures us, noting that (a) the Weathermen didn’t kill anyone, which is true if you exclude the occasional cop or two (a point Chris Cuomo doesn’t raise) and (b) even though what they did “was definitely over lots of lines,” it doesn’t really qualify as terror because the war simply had to be stopped and they were acting to that end. As he says in “Fugitive Days”:
Terrorists terrorize, they kill innocent civilians, while we organized and agitated. Terrorists destroy randomly, while our actions bore, we hoped, the precise stamp of a cut diamond. Terrorists intimidate, while we aimed only to educate.
Michelle Malkin has a good roundup.
Summary: America was lied to and we are still being lied to. The fact this scum was given an opportunity to extend his fifteen minutes of American hating fame is very sad.

The right side needs to get a life. We won, you lost. Get used to it.
Lead, follow, or just get out of the way. Either choice is fine by me.
Yeah Jimbo Y’all got the load come January and though I didn’t vote for him, I will support the President as long as his policies don’t cross my core beliefs. Even then my opposition will be loyal and respectfully demonstrated unlike the majority of Bush’s detractors.
I also pray Obama never has to suffer the insane hatred, continuous insults, mendacity and distortions that Bush has had to deal with for 8 years.
So lets see Jimbo if y’all are as good at leading and building as you are pissin’, moaning and bitchin’.
Bush was demonized because he was an incompetent neocon surrounded by the leftovers of the Nixon administration. Even for those here who cannot read – that should be an easy explanation why the planets reaction to Bush stealing the 2000 election was outrage. Even our allies do not like us any longer.
Please, please keep Sarah Palin in the spotlight. PLEASE. She is exactly what the country needs right now. She will continue to remind voters that the GOP is a dead horse, only good for bigotry and hate. Geez even Ohio and Indiana thought she was an idiot.
As I said: Lead, follow, or just get out of the way. Either choice is fine by me.
I am very disappointed in Chris Cuomo. It was like a tea party interview only chatty insignificant questions from him. Ayers is liar, Obama is a liar just read his book, both of those two wrote it in my opinion. Watch out Jimbo, your a follower all I can say is remember Auschwitz, they all followed too. I, sir ,will be a watcher to see if all those promises Obama made to fix it all for the “middleman” will come true. I just hope I am not watching all our freedoms taken away. Gee, maybe the days that Ayers is not repentant over may return, only the shoe will be on the other foot. Think about it.Hummmmm!
Jimbo, I am not a racist! I don’t care what color the winner is. What I do care about is the best qualified person wins the position. Obama got a pass because of all the self inflicted guilt trips these white voters suffered and Obama got the benefit of that guilt. I have no guilt for the blacks “opression”. They have to get over it. That oppression and discrimination ended with “quotas” , infact the one who is discriminated against is the average white guy or girl. You are what you make yourself. The slaves were freed, my grandfather never owned a slave and my great grandfather was “a slave” to the coal mining industry(Of course he didn’t know it he just wanted to provide for his family) If you want to say I am a racist, you can for you like I, have freedom of speech. Butcha better be careful of what you say about “him”, look what happened to Joe the Plummer asking the “wrong question”.
You keep bashing Palin, she has more qualifications than Obama, she was a mayor, (Executive duties there) she is a Governor again executive experience powers and duties. Obama, Community organizer?? what budget did he develop for that? Oh, yeah, he just used his “powers” as Senator to get Acorn millions in pork, oh yeah and voted present, aka fence sitter, on Senate bills. Thats is not a leader I can get behind. She, Palin, did more, accomplished more in her short time in politics than he has done.
The only grifter is Obama and now he is trying to drag Hillary into his dog and pony show. I hope she doesn’t go for the carrot.
ps, As for the “home schooled uneducated slimy folks” I suggest that you take the time to read the impressive list of those “slimy folks” I’ll save you the time, not that you would bother checking, look here:
http://homeschooling.suite101.com/article.cfm/homeschooled_alumni_impressive_and_growing
I would rather be one of them ,than one of you, a brainwashed ameba (oops thats an oxymoron)
You’re EVERYTHING you accuse those you despise of being Jimbo, All knowing, self absorbed, bigoted, conspiracy addicted, and full of hate. Your comments show that. I pity you man, I really do.
And as I said Lets see if y’all are as good at leading and building as you are pissin’ and moaning. It’s alot different when you carry the responsibility for the welfare of a nation, hoping to God you’re making the right decisions, instead of sitting back and smugly criticizing, and judging with no real answers of your own except to say “You’re doing it wrong.” Well come January and the next 4 years we’ll see, the democrats have the majority and no one to blame but themselves if it hits the fan.
Naples Sue, May I give you some friendly advice Never play their game of denying that you’re a racist. It’s the final card, a well worn and tiresome card that Jimbos kind plays when they can’t come up with anything else to counter an arguement.
They don’t want to discuss they merely want to shrilly make their points without further comment from others. Take care sister.
Jimbo,
We will show obama the same amount of respect and fairness the left showed George Bush. So, it’s Obama Derangement Syndrome all the way.
We’ll contrive the most tenuous links between Obama and some ill befalling the world and blame him for it- loudly. Maybe we’ll also make some films which show him laughing and sipping fine champagne while watching, say, anti-abortion activists get waterboarded and electrocuted.
Who cares if any of it is true or not? That didn’t stop Michael Moore, nor did it stop the Left from lionizing him and his films, did it?
If you don’t like it, go look in the mirror. And thanks for the lesson in how to behave this way.
