The War Is Over and We Won

Update: Ed Morrissey says the surge worked, and provides this video:

Via Glenn Reynolds:

Michael Yon just phoned from Baghdad, and reports that things are much better than he had expected, and he had expected things to be good. “There’s nothing going on. I’m with the 10th Mountain Division, and about half of the guys I’m with haven’t fired their weapons on this tour and they’ve been here eight months. And the place we’re at, South Baghdad, used to be one of the worst places in Iraq. And now there’s nothing going on. I’ve been walking my feet off and haven’t seen anything. I’ve been asking Iraqis, ‘do you think the violence will kick up again,’ but even the Iraqi journalists are sounding optimistic now and they’re usually dour.”

Rand Simberg:

No thanks to the Democrats, including Barack Obama and Joe Biden, who tried to keep it from happening. I see that they still can’t bring themselves to utter the word “win” with respect to the war. They continue to talk about “ending” it. Well, it looks like George Bush did that for them, and he won it as well. But winning wars is bad, you see, because it just encourages the warmongers.

Charles Johnson adds in on how wrong Obama was about the war.

If Barack Obama had gotten his way, Iraq would now be in the hands of Islamists, and America’s image would have suffered a crushing blow. He voted to cut off funding for the troops, just when they needed it most, and still refuses to admit he was wrong.

Well, he was wrong, and George W. Bush deserves credit for refusing to back down when [those] all around him were losing heart.

JWF:

Please Barry, can you please say the surge has worked?? Is it asking so much? I have no doubt that the tone of the stories regarding Iraq will take on a much more positive tone in the coming days but that will be because they backed the liberal agenda of withdrawal at all costs. Much has been done, let’s not jeopardize it by hasty decisions based on knee jerk reactions from whiney far left liberals.

Well jharp, n, here’s the deal. We took out the Iraqi forces, then we took out Saddam’s rapist, murdering fascist, genocidal sons, then we took out and found Saddam Hussein (not Obama), then we took out Al Sadr’s ISLAMOFASCIST forces, then we DESTROYED AL QAEDA, who had made Iraq their FOCAL POINT, then we rebuilt schools and infrastructure, THEN, we turned Iraq over to FREE Iraqi forces and a FREELY ELECTED GOVERNMENT.
We’ll be leaving soon. We (the U.S. ARMED SERVICE-INCLUDING MY PURPLE HEART USMC NEPHEW) took care of business and are leaving Iraqi’s FREE and on their feet as to schools water, and infrastructure.
When we are gone, will you thank God for the U.S.A and her brave men and women, taxpayers and what we have achieved?
    Nah, you’re a puss.

It is too early to celebrate as the Democrats and their Republican turncoats can still snatch defeat from the mouth of victory.
