While I agree with you that Obama's win wasn't a runaway landslide as predicted, it was by a much more massive margin compared to either of Bush's wins. And Republicans took both of them to mean it was a strong mandate for Republican values so expect the Dems to do the same.

If you're a con, don't worry it will all work over time. The Dems will run roughshod over washington for the next 8 years and go way overboard, (just like the republicans did), America will tire of them and be sickened by them, and the people will yet again clamor for change! ...in another 8-12 years.

It's the never ending ebb and flow.

The point is well-taken that Obama's margin was less than Reagan's. Likewise, whether the republicans can thwart progress until they once again have a crack at the White House. The first question will be: Are four years enough for the country to recover from the mess Bush has made? This would be a serious task even for a dyed-in-the-wool republican. The obvious second question: Will be enough that the Reagan era is over and with it the legacy of 'deregulation' that appears to have green-lighted the economic meltdown. Third, can Obama finally put an end to America's two plus centuries of pre-emptive, unnecessary wars?

And you've got me suddenly very interested in the ACLU. Where do I sign up?
