Let me sort of describe my overall policy.
What I’ve said is that we would put a cap and trade system in place that is as aggressive, if not more aggressive, than anybody else’s out there.
I was the first to call for a 100% auction on the cap and trade system, which means that every unit of carbon or greenhouse gases emitted would be charged to the polluter. That will create a market in which whatever technologies are out there that are being presented, whatever power plants that are being built, that they would have to meet the rigors of that market and the ratcheted down caps that are being placed, imposed every year.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.
That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in solar, wind, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches.
The only thing I’ve said with respect to coal, I haven’t been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.
So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can.
It’s just that it will bankrupt them.”
This illustrates better than anything the folly of “cap and trade” proposals. Obama plans to use his C&T plan as a gigantic club to beat up on power companies and coal companies (and the miners) if they don’t meet his arbitrary and capricious “targets” that drop every year regardless of any progress technologically in finding ways to mitigate the carbon output of power plants.
It will almost certainly cause a lot of smaller coal companies to either cut their work force as the demand for coal – our most abundant energy source – shrinks and probably drive a lot of these smaller concerns out of business.
And what about his gloating about driving businesses to bankruptcy? Has there ever been a presidential candidate who looked forward to the prospect of destroying someone’s life’s work and costing thousands of people their jobs?
But at least the Euro-twits pushing Global Warming won’t be mad at us anymore.
Obama already called for a 15% reduction in demand for electricity — at the same time he and his allies want transportation to switch from gasoline to electricity. Obama never explained this particular contradiction. How does one switch tens of millions of vehicles from gasoline to electricity while not Increasing demand, let alone by cutting it 15%? And when trying to break free from a recession, the nation will need greater production in energy, not a reduction.
The coal-based economics of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Kentucky, Ohio, and other states will be the first to feel this new policy. Let’s hope the voters there pay attention.
I don’t know why the McCain camp is not running constant ads – at least in PA and Virginial, highlighting Obama’s admission that – given the opportunity – he’ll bankrupt any new coal plants.
Give him a chance, the news just hit today thanks to the new media, not the old. It was hidden before.

Voters in coal states around the country need to know this. Barack Obama wants to essentially kill the coal industry, which is in line with Biden’s previous comment that there should be no coal plants in America. These are the coal states that would be affected if Obama is able to implement his Cap and Trade policy. It would also affect those companies right now that currently use coal as fuel. They would be hit so hard with fines that they would either have to invest in major capital changes to their plants to switch to a new fuel or go under.
Looks like Biden wasn’t contradicting Obama at all when his words were reported and shown on video.

The problem is not technical, uh, and the problem is not mastery of the legislative intricacies of Washington. The problem is, uh, can you get the American people to say, “This is really important,” and force their representatives to do the right thing? That requires mobilizing a citizenry. That requires them understanding what is at stake. Uh, and climate change is a great example.
You know, when I was asked earlier about the issue of coal, uh, you know — Under my plan of a cap and trade system, electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I’m capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it — whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, uh, they would have to retrofit their operations. That will cost money. They will pass that money on to consumers.

Adolf Hitler was well-known to have used hypnosis on crowds to gain power in Germany. (Just Google it if you doubt it.) So why cant this happen in America? It is happening.
Now, this document, An Examination of Obama’s Use of Hidden Hypnosis Techniques in His Speeches is really spreading. Many people, including young people, are starting to wake up.
Young people have come up with a saying, “Don’t drink the kool-aid Obama is pushing on you.”
Obama has no accomplishments, we don’t know him, he wrote a memoir, he has racist connections, he is using hypnosis, and he thinks he’s the Messiah and that he should be in control of the world. We’ve seen this story before in Germany in the 1930’s, haven’t we? We know what happened there.
Obama’s use of hypnosis in speeches is why:
-nothing sticks to him
-the huge crowds
-the huge money contributions
-the mesmerized effect, especially in young people, who, because of their imaginations are more susceptible to hypnosis (read the document)
-the exorbitant election fraud, rule-breaking and bias in the media
-he gets away with changing every position
-people are calling him the “greatest leader of a generation” with no accomplishments
You have to read this document to understand how his hypnosis works. Logically and rationally, why not get to know this guy a little more before handing the world over to him? Why not wait?

I’m pretty open minded. I wonder why his hypnosis didn’t work on me? If we go with the polls, America is split still ideologically…wonder why he didn’t hypnotize all those folks? Because McCain has already proposed a cap and trade system too. Obama and McCain are birds of a feather on cap and trade. Laughingly, McCain claims his cap and trade plan will be free market based when an arbitrary government imposed cap and trade system is anything but “free market”.

Obama and McCain are both decent Americans who want to help people. Yet, about 90% of educated people in the rest of the world and a heavy majority of people at the most elite universities within the US think Obama is better for the US and the world; his policies are better, his attitude toward life and the world is better. You’re not smarter or more diverse than all these people, so unless you make over 200K a year and only care about your taxes or care more about banning abortion than anything else, you should probably do more research and actually have a dialogue with an intelligent, knowledgeable person from the other side. Stop fooling yourselves.
A better way to understand the true Obamanation is through listening to Biden. When the DNC un muzzles him, he sometimes lets the truth Obama won’t tell you slip out.

Odd to know one in the media ever admits what scientist have also been telling us now for awhile. Our global warming is not unique. The solar systems is warming at the same rate. The surface of Mars is monitored and shows the same incline in trend. Those damn Martians are burning coal some place and driving around in SUVs. Should send Gore out there to scare them into getting their act together. Bottom line is the sun is in a heating up phase, not much we can do there.
And scientists also say the number one largest generator of greenhouse gasses isn’t manmade. It is the flatulence of the huge cattle population. Now there is some we all can do something about. If your a vegan, your all ready helping by not creating a higher demand for beef. If your like me a carnavore, help eliminate cows…EAT more beef!
Everybody needs to think clean coal we need to start thinking green. Everybody who defends this coal the way it is is the same people who throw there plastic bags out the window and think it’s good for the environment or shall I quote nature has a way of dealing with it.
People WAKE UP this planet is not at your disposal don’t be narrow minded in thinking about NOW think 100s of years from now.
Seen the same show on beef shows just how much you watch and listen and only hear what you want I think we call that selective hearing. Go back and watch the program we would have to increase the cattle Population by millions to create more than cars.

I think Mr Obama’s point is that either coal companies step up and invest in “clean coal” technology or they will be unable to continue as profit making entities in this country.
Clean/cleaner coal technology has been available since the 60’s. Isn’t it about time.

What is the difference between Obama’s cap and trade and John McCain’s cap and trade policy? Anyone?
One a serious note. If I heard Obama right he is throwing in Natural Gas with clean coal as a nasty polluter, that makes things down right tough because CNG is one pretty clean fuel, it doesn’t get much better than that in today’s world. CNG is pretty plentiful in the USA and cheap so I think his lumping it together with coal is ridiculous. Check out his little speech here I’m sure he did that. BAD IDEA !!!
Just like everything in this world there has to be change. We have to start thinking green, and those backwood states as we call them need to come of the ages. We have to convert to Digital in a few months threfore our televisions will only work if we have cable or a cable converter box, we do as the Government wants us to do. So if the Government or President of the United States get recommendation from those other powers that be to make change – what can we do but stomp to their beat. Barack won’t be able to satisfy everyone, he won’t be able to make miracles happen over night, hell he probably won’t be able to do 20 percent of the things he’s promised, him nor McCain if he’s elected President, with the way George Bush has screwed things up. Hell as long as we get that administration out of there we can at least start the healing process.

Unfortunately, bankrupting coal plants is not only the WRONG way to go about that, it’s politically impossible. Congress simply will not let him do that, no matter what party is in charge. And I’d give 50-to-1 odds that he knows that. He’s not gonna do any such thing, people; he’s lying through his teeth to attract votes.
Say you did not like trickle down economics, well welcome to trickle down taxation. If you tax the people that supply goods and services they will either pass the cost on to the consumer or thay cut costs, ie… lay off workers.

I do not know ANY coal miner who does not want their workplace to be upgraded. Energy prices are high enough and the owners are rolling in extraordinary profits. Only a few selfish hillbillys think this is a bad thing. Let them eat the coal dust for a change.

First of all, I am not or have ever been a racist. Second of all, for all of the people out there who want to shut down the coal industries please let us know, without cursing, where we will get 49 percent of our power from??? there are not enough solar, nuclear, wind, or hydro-electric plants out there to cover it all together, nor is the technology there to make up for it now.
Obama says he will help create jobs. How is is going to employ those that will loose everything when the coal mines are shut down?

The energy companies have gone far too long with out any regulation at all. That is not to say that we need to make up for that long recess from responsibility, but at the same time, strong regulation should come into play here.
Does anyone at all remember hearing from the energy companies, “we are only passing our costs onto consumers”? Well, I think, if that is indeed the case, why are so many of these companies reporting not just any profit in our horrible economy, but RECORD profits? To pound home my meaning here, the word is PROFIT, not just sales. Profit, meaning extra money that apparently did NOT go towards their supposed extra costs, but into their pockets.
No matter what we do, we will always have pollution. Again, no matter what. The path that human-kind should be working towards, not just Americans, not just McCain supporters, not just Obama supporters, is toward a minimalist approach regarding our collective effect on the planet and our future home.
Furthermore, statistically speaking (not my opinion, but unbiased study), Americans are a wasteful people. The world looks at us in shame, and envy. One the one hand they are disgusted that we use sooo much of the worlds energy, more than all the other countries combined. Yet on the other hand they wish they could be here in the opportunity we have, the fact that we have the choice to use all the energy we please.
Why cant we turn our country into a place of responsibility? Why cant we show the world how it ’should’ be? Im all for what amounts to a reduction in my impact. I am all for teaching my children to be conscious of their own impact. If, as a result of policy, we are forced to develop the already existing alternative energies, perhaps initially raising energy prices as opposed to alleviating them, why not bite the bullet now and pay that extra cost, so that in the future, we arent paying just out of our wallets, but in the possibilities of not being able to walk outside in a swimsuit, uncovered from the deadly rays of the sun, among other things.
Americans, and most of the other first world countries, have been very complaisant. We just take it…and we take it…and we take it…and the only time we ever complain is when we see a possibility that we might get stiffed royally. But once the possibility is gone and becomes actuality…suddenly we quiet down again as if there was never any problem. We swallow the bile that threatens to overtake us as we shell out $4 a gallon for gas. We make an effort to curb any wasteful driving expeditions, but we cut back a little. We make sure the lights are turned off in the house, we turn our computers off instead of leaving them on all day long, but thats about it. There is no boycotting, there is no demand that our leaders ease our suffering. We take it. Until our homes foreclose because we had to choose between paying for gas to get to work, or paying for our home.
We have collective power to overthrow our government when they cross the line. The consitution expressly permits us to do so in fact. The irony is…some of us are so caught up in what affects “ME” that we forget that fighting for what affects “US” should overrule “ME”, and therefore we can never stand together to overthrow anything.
We are content to fight with each other over the all important “ME” and we actually fail to recognize that the person we are fighting with also wants to make the world better for “ME”. If we could stop attacking each other for a moment over who would be a better president, over whose policies are better for “ME”, perhaps we could sit together at the table, look at each issue, and create a compromise. Once we have reached that point, “WE” can take our compromise to our leaders and “DEMAND” that our compromise become policy.
Until we get beyond “ME”, we will all be subject to, perhaps victims of, government policy. Get it? Typing comments on a little website, attacking our fellow bloggers because of their opinion of what works best for “ME”, youre not solving anything! Get into the real world and invite your opponent friends into your house. Ask them why they think what they think, tell them why you think what you think, and go forward from there.
The two party system is horrible. It forces us to choose one side or the other. Why cant we ALL be a part of one great compromise that benefits us all. Until we do that…we are at the beck and call of a few decision makers who may or may not have our best interests at heart.
Live with it, or dont, but stop getting caught up in semantics, and get back to the real problem.

In case you haven’t noticed, there are always more than two parties on the ballot. What would you prefer, a one party system like the communists? Would you rather live in a world where dissent is not allowed?? Many of us believe that electing Obama is the equivalent of ‘overthrowing’ the government and handing it over to Socialists.
Why shouldn’t we speak out and try to warn people?? This is serious stuff, and many on the left see it as nothing more than a game. 1. Obama wants to declare tax war on U.S. industries, businesses and persons who suceed in bettering themselves. Industries, to tax them so heavily they will have to seek off-shore alternatives.
Role the industries can play? Do not pay any taxes at all. Tell the Obamanites, not only will we not pay your new taxes… we won’t even pay the old ones.
2. Small businesses your situation will be similar, but your only alternative is to shut your doors forever. So, ditto the above, just don’t pay the taxes.
3. You the average Joe the (fill in the blank). You who perform services with your small one person or small team business. And receive payment by personal check or cash, do the same. Don’t pay Obama’s taxes.
4. For the rest of us working for someone else… check off every tax exemption you can on your W-2. You come up short at the end of the year, screw ‘em, don’t pay!
Now this will be passive resistance ala Ghandi… works too, brought down the British Empire in India. Now the nay sayers will say, Oh, but they can imprison you! WHERE? In too few and overcrowded prisons that they cannot afford to operate any longer? Too many millions in rebellion! Won’t be possible!

I am one of the people who live in those coal states. Personally, I have a bad feeling about Obama. He can’t speak without a teleprompter, as you can hear in the audio (he speak like that all every time he is without one). Obama has written in his book that he despises whites. But yet, all kinds of people will vote for him regardless.
Also, anyone who knows science will tell you, suns go through cycles (solar cycles), and heat up and cool down. If I do remember right, it was just a few years ago that people were freaking out because of the hole in the ozone layer, but all of a sudden, it is because of greenhouse gasses produced by cars? It is the sun. You want to cool down the earth? You detonate the sun. Or move somewhere else. But, I feel that you will find it easier to just live with it.
It is nature, people. It will do what it wants, with or without human intervention. I saw a video on the TV a few weeks ago and saw that people freaked out and wanted to save this baby eagle because it was taken right from the nest by another bird. Hey, the bird was hungry, so it chose that chick to feed off of. Its called nature. Stop trying to change everything just because you’re human! We are animals just like deer, dogs, eagles, and pigs. You wouldn’t take away a persons steak because you wanted to save the cow. You wouldn’t try to chase away a coyote because it came after your animals (unless it is a business). It is like saying that certain animals deserve to die just because you want the other animals to be safe.
But, back to the original topic, why don’t you try to stop rain from falling? It is wearing all those beautiful mountains down. In essence, it is the same thing as global warming. Nature is doing its job, and we can do everything, and we will get nowhere fast.

Many have demanded that “we think long term”. Not a bad idea, but have they really tried it?
First, while there are large deposits of petroleum resources available, they are increasingly more difficult to extract. And as the world-wide demand continues to grow (as the rest of the world seeks the US standard of living), it will become increasingly difficult to extract enough petroleum to feed the hungry world.
And, just for the record, all the common alternative energy sources, such as solar, geothermal, etc., have a low energy density value that means you have to turn over lots of land in order to “extract” sufficient energy.
In other words, if anyone really looks “long term”, nuclear is the only way to go. And even that is only temporary.
The real answer, long term, is space-based energy collection, but in order to make that happen, we have to devote far more money to space research then we do now. Rather then spending funds on failed social programs, we should be building a space-based infrastructure for long-term energy recovery.
That’s the only way to build a sustainable future.

In the seventies the U.S. was well under way and funded to build the first one in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. I live just south of the site (less than 10 miles) where they began preperation for the plant. Now Jimmy Carter in his short sighted wisdom shut the program down, and shifted funding to Ohio’s nuclear energy research system (this was all for trying to get Ohio’s electorial votes in 1980, as opposed to Tennessee’s little 9 votes, then).
At the time the Clinch River Breeder Reactor was touted as being able to create more nuclear reactor grade material than it used to make it. Hence the name Breeder Reactor. Now nuclear energy fell out of favor about that time, because we had plenty of coal and oil (Eh’ hmm!). At the same time Europe was going all out building reactors.

Dennis it matters to me not who you want to support. But if you’re are going to put your input in here, do it on an issue you have a clue about. Have you ever been in a coal mine, even know where one is?
As an operational engineer who has worked with, in and alongside the coal and oil industry, I can attest you couldn’t possoble be further from the truth if you tried. In just the deep mine fields now known in the U.S., we have a known supply of well over 200 years at current usesage.
Don’t try and blurb false information on the web and not expect someone who knows to call you to task on that. I’ve been down there, worked there with the good people who use the machinery to haul to the surface the coal. These are the people who work 24/7 365 to see you have power when you flip a switch, the lights come on. You’re cool in the summer, warm in the winter. As a foster/adoptive mother of three special needs children, living in a small, already economically depressed, timber town, I have watched, over the last six years, the budgets for critical services to foster and specials needs children be steadily stripped down until it has become an incredibly ugly system where social workers, judges and foster parents struggle just to meet the minimum, and I mean minimum, needs of the children. Thanks to these cuts, it’s like this, folks. You can either invest now to make taxpayers, or we’ll be spending ten times the amounts caring for them as inmates.

Coal is a terrible pollutant, a health hazard to the miners and life threating to the miners as well. How many mining catastrophes have happened in the past two years, plenty. Many dead miners and the mine owners did nothing to protect this poor hard working people.
We need to replace coal mining with safer technology. And train the young people in those mining communities to work in these new technologies and we will have twice the jobs and safer.

The answer as to why Obama will let the Bush tax cuts expire and still raise more taxes is easy. The more financial problems there are in this country, the more people will be looking for handouts, as in depending on the US government, thus making more people think it is there right to entitlements, thus just about guaranteeing the re-election of a Bigger Government. Why because Democrats do not think U.S. citizens are capable of making decisions on there own. And they are probably right, because if Obama is elected, then the majority did not care of his prior and current association with “questionable” people.
