Also: I don't think, after what, six years blogging? - that John Hawkins or any of the top right-wing bloggers (except for people like Patrick Ruffini, Patrick Hynes, Soren Dayton, and Sean Hackbarth) are in any position to be dispensing advice on what "we" should do, because they've been saying the same things for years and there's been ZERO progress. Those who can, DO. Those who can't, talk about it.

BTW, this post was linked at Ralph Benko's site, which is referenced in the link I posted above. Download his book!! HE is one of the few who get it - but he doesn't have an "A-list" blog; he actually makes things happen rather than pontificating on the news. ;)

I’ve had people tell me conservative bloggers feel “dirty” asking for money.

Seriously?
Good grief. I wondered what the problem was for all this time! I have NO problem shaking people down for donations - it's not like I'm asking for myself, and it doesn't hurt my feelings if someone can't donate; I can't always donate either (I'm probably less able to than most bloggers).

I gave up a few months ago. Blogging had become a pointless exercise in opinion-spouting (as you alluded to) with NO impact whatsoever. I couldn't even get $100 in donations for the McCain campaign, and it's not like I have (er, had) a low-traffic blog. I think most Joe Schmo (Joe the Plumber!) conservatives are just tightwads with political donations, to be honest, and politically lazy to boot. My fellow bloggers killed my motivation with their relative apathy, at least as compared with the Left. I'll probably never even bother with blogs any more if the Obamateur wins, because bloggers haven't done squat but whine from the cheap seats about how McCain is a "RINO" and various other tiresome complaints. Waaaah.

Yeah, I'm bitter (and clinging!). Honestly I find it hard to believe it's just hesitation to ask for money; I think there are a lot of reasons why our side of the blogosphere is weak. Hesitation to ask for money I can see, but I deplore it.

Check this out:
http://www.spectator.org/archives/2008/10/27/untangling-the-web

Benko hammers home that MoveOn.org and the DailyKos fundamentally understand that they exist as effective entities not because they "push an agenda" per say, but because they first and foremost are focused on nurturing an online community. He faults Freedom's Watch for pushing an agenda and then committing the double sin of trying to create an online community using a top-down model, instead of a bottom-up model.

^^^ THIS. And there's absolutely no excuse for the lack of effort on the part of Malkin, Allah, Charles Johnson, and all their imitators and peers. They have a loyal audience, but they're just banging on the keyboard, trying to be the next Coulter or whatever. Waste. Of. Talent.

Amen on the schools. We've got to take em back, and that is where to start. They will fight to hold on to the schools tooth and nail, and in today's political correct attitudes of parents, it'll be an uphill battle fighting many of them too.
