Obama audio — I want to ban concealed weapons permits

Posted on October 30, 2008

“Well I, I, I, I continue to, I continue to, uh, uh, support a ban on concealed carry laws.”

I did not know that.

Really, I didn’t know that Barack Obama wants to outlaw CCWs (concealed weapons permits). I thought that I’d followed this campaign closer than most, but this one got right by me. For the record, I myself hold a State of Florida Concealed Weapon or Firearm License, having subjected myself to a background check, paid the fee (and renewal fees) and demonstrated proficiency and responsibility with personal firearms. Hell, there was a time some years ago when I was berated on a radio show for having submitted myself to the scrutiny of the government for having applied for a permit as a prerequisite to carrying. Now I learn that if Obama wins I won’t even have the right to ask the government to certify me to responsibly exercise my rights (obligations?) under the second amendment. Has he been asked a direct question in the presidential campaign about why he feels that way?

Hey, watch this. The setting is a WBEZ Chicago NPR radio program called “Eight Forty-Eight”, the date is September 13, 2004, as Obama runs for the US Senate. [yes, it is edited for time. You can listen to the entire interview at this link...look for September 13, audio link to "Campaign Notebook, Obama on guns and crime"]

Obama flat says, with pausal prompts omitted, “I continue to support a ban on concealed carry laws.” As I mentioned, I didn’t know that until now. It turns out that it really isn’t much of a secret, (”I am consistently on record and will continue to be on record as opposing concealed carry”) but you wouldn’t know that from Obama’s campaign website, where you have to find his position on the 2nd Amendment under “additional issues — sportsmen” and not find anything about carry permits.

The windows movie file of the video can be downloaded here.

I apologize for the low quality of the audio in advance.

The mp3 of the audio is here: http://courtzero.org/obamaccw.mp3

First it’s CCW, then firearms in general, regardless of SCOTUS rulings on the matter. In fact, I’ve seen commentary from his sheeple outright stating that the Constitution does NOT give us an individual right to keep and bear arms and that the SCOTUS was wrong in making that interpretation.

Don’t ever let it be said that we weren’t warned. All the signs are there… if we don’t stop evil, it will stop us.

Step out of your comfort zone and do something about it. Contact your local representatives. Talk to your friends and neighbors. Most of all, do the right thing and VOTE.

VOTE McCain/Palin to save our contry, or it will be someone else’s country.

was obama talking about the court ruling?if so then this is not news.
mccain being stupid enough to lose an aircraft costing millions and then to get captured does not in any way make him a hero .yes other things he has done make me proud ,and some make me think he is still crashing millions of $ of stuff that he didnt pay for.
vote for bab barr if obama wins then we will slog through it for 4 years.we lived through 4 years of carter and 8 years of raygun .when we get someone of the standing of JFK?
insted we got bush ,time for a change?

If we choose OBAMA, we certainly can not ask GOD to help us when America has shunned the ONLY TRUE GOD WHO CAN HELP! MCCAIN/PALIN is the better choice for Country, Family, Individual, Church, Military, etc.
Wake up, America! Yes, we need change. We need a change in our spiritual hearts; a change toward GOD instead of government.

  7. Gsus KindandGood on October 31st, 2008 10:01 am

“a change toward GOD instead of government.”

Yes the real reason we have two Americas. One America desires to control the entire American population by having their interpretation of a collection of morals, stories and ancient ‘best guesses’ at age-old questions. And we all know from the fundamentalists who desire to control the country that there is only one interpretation of mid-east derived scriptures, theirs. Funny thing is, the one America who believes this think that the other America is godless which is so far from the truth. The other America believes that it is our own acts which lead us to a path to heaven, not our desire to control everyone and to jail them if they don’t believe as they do. The founding fathers saw how the governing bodies of the colonies were increasingly structuring the laws and even the ‘citizenship’ around their interpretation of the scriptures. This is why they found it important to separate the church from the state. As a Christian, I believe it is my responsibility to use the scripture to guide my actions not as a way to solidify my fellow church-members beliefs as being ‘better’ because our interpretations can be put into law governing all citizens. As the majority religion we must respect all religions. Whether as foreign to us as Wicca or as familiar as LDS. If not, we may see a moral spokesperson such as Jim Baker or Falwell. These are men and we have seen how perfect a man is.

  8. McCain Not a good leader on October 31st, 2008 10:16 am

McCain hasn’t shown good anything in his election run…..He smear a person instead of talk about something???? He spent 2 months smearing Obama when he should have been talking to America about his plans…I didn’t heard it….All I heard and seen was upset McCain and mad McCain….I remember when I heard about McCain years ago…I thougth he had a temper….we need a calm President….a thinker…..and McCain isn’t that…..Palin??????-OK- He should have got Joe the Plumber to be his running mate….because he didn’t know Palin…..Bad choice……….

No matter who wins…….things are going to get worst before it get better….people are hurting out here……and 10 billion is going to another country-monthly…..GOD PLEASE HELP US…….something is wrong….

  9. Davis on October 31st, 2008 11:18 am

If people would listen to both sides, they would know the “change” that Obama speaks about is very concrete. Change the tax code to help middle class families rather than big corporations and the wealthy. Change the health care system to provide health care to all children. Change foreign policy to be more inclusive rather than divise. Change our strategy in the middle east to start using more of our exceptional miltary personnel for fighting terrorists where they are based and growing in strength. Change the energy plan to be more effective, efficient, safe and productive. Change the education system to provide better opportunity for more Americans to go to college and improve learning environments for children. Change economic policy so that our banking industry has some actual rules to follow rather than letting them run themselves into the ground and lose our money. Change is coming. These changes sound pretty good to me.

  10. Davis on October 31st, 2008 11:23 am

Also, I’m a city boy, so maybe I don’t understand this, but why would anyone other than a police officer need to carry a concealed weapon? I understand owning guns for home protection and hunting and all that, but why would you need to have a hidden weapon on you? Seriously. I’m not trying to be sarcastic. I just don’t see why.

  11. democrat gunowner on October 31st, 2008 2:05 pm

Its not the point about if he is against concealed gun carry or not. I’m a devout gun lover and democrat, and I don’t care about little crap like this. He isn’t going to stop concealed permits anymore than Mccain is going to stop abortion…which is a relief. The importance is the big picture, the economy and if you idiots want to not get a tax break when Obama wins, I’ll be happy to take it from ya when he wins.

  12. DaveP. on October 31st, 2008 2:30 pm

I’d rather “not” get a tax break, than watch my freedoms disappear.

That’s what differentiates Republicans form Democrats, ‘Democrat gunowner’.

You obviously have some freedoms you don’t care about… mind if I take them?

  19. JP Gun collector and CWP holder in FLA on November 1st, 2008 2:31 am

This is an interesting blog and I guess because I am an NRA member I got this email. I have been an NRA member for the last 20 years and I remember when Bill Clinton was running some of my buddies back in NYC were asking me why are you an NRA member and a democrat and you live in NYC so you can not carry a weapon here. My answer was and still is: I belive and support the second ammendment and some day I will live in a state where it makes sense to carry a weapon. Well I have been living in FLA. for the last seven years I own a small business. Now it makes sense to have a weapon. Botton line: Obama was referring to CHICAGO and I agree with him, I don’t want fire arms in NYC or Chicago or Los Angeles, or any big city where Police officers are going to be targets. That is what democrats support. I am an NRA member, I have a CWP, I carry heat and I don’t care about people like MC Cain who is super rich and does not care about me.

  20. Dave - NRA Life Member on November 1st, 2008 7:53 am

Wow. Law-abiding citizens in Chicago, LA and NYC would target police officers should those citizens be allowed to obtain a CWP and exercise their second amendment rights to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense.

This is one of the most absurd statements I believe I’ve seen written by a person claiming to be an NRA member. The Constitutions Second Amendment applies to all law-abiding citizens of the United States of America and that right should not be infringed.

By inference, are you stating that if you had been permitted to carry a concealed firearm in one of those other cities/states you would have targeted law enforcement officers? Possibly you believe the great state of Florida is a more dangerous place to live and Right-TO-Carry should only apply to states like ours. In my opinion this premise is flawed. The Bill Of Rights applies to all United States citizens.

I believe my NRA has given Obama an F rating for a specific reason; his voting history does not support the second amendment. Also, my NRA supports the second amendment rights of all law-abiding citizens regardless of State, County or City. Maybe one should take a little more time and read the publications and advertisements sent out by the NRA. The web site is pretty informative also. Just search for; “NRA”. Check out the NRA history and also NRA supported election candidates for 2008.

One more thing, anybody that thinks taxing big corporations and the wealthy is a good idea should do a web search on the “Florida Unitary Tax” and you might want to see how well the “Luxury Tax” worked out also. Many businesses went broke, companies moved to other locations or countries and thousands of people lost their jobs over these creative ideas. I believe one of the presidential candidates wants to nail the wealthy with more taxes again. Be careful what you believe to be a good plan.

I find it hard to beleive some one has no idea why someone would want to carry a gun. Do you watch TV? do you read news papers? do you live in a box? Eevry time I turn around somevody here in Florida is being killed mugged home invasion ect. I will not be a lamb, if soem one wants to hurt me my family or an innocent person while I am standing by it is not gonna happen. We just saw on the news yesterday were two men with guns attacked a young Wal Mart employee in broad day light knocked her to the ground beat her while robbing her. Six people in the store attacked them and got them off her. Great semaritans! But it could have gone a whole diffrent dirrection they had guns and if they started shooting I hoped to God that a CCW person was near by! Cops can’t be there to protect you just to anylise the crime seen around your body or your familys.

I have to say the nightrider letter pretty much says it all. You shall know them by their actions and Mr. Obama’s scream volumes that he shares not one American value that I have. I see him as not a leader of men but a radical criminal thug who would love to disarm the American public.

Thankfully, I have already voted for MCCain or I would have been swayed by the argument that I could get a big tax cut in exchange for my soul. Chrisians who say they are voting for Obama, funny there were a lot of Christians in Germany who were looking out for themselves, who had their eyes on Jewish businesses and property. They as a whole did very little to stop the magnificent Orator Adolf Hitler.Same Message different gifted speaker. This time the Christians won’t get a pass they will be targeted just like our brothers the jews, then you will see betrayal that you could not have imagined. People will actually think they are doing a good deed, civic duty, to betray those of us who are non compliant. See Matthew 24, if I didn’t put the scripture reference some may have believed but Yeshua forcasted this 2000 yrs ago how could I take credit? When America falls to socialism Israel will be the last Democracy left on earth. Here in the U S, we have the scenario of the blind leading the blind and both ending up in the ditch. Eventially it all will come down to the middle east and the jewish question, will we be ally or foe? Will we even be in existence?

I am sorry for the earlier spelling I was in a hurry to go to the early VOTING! I see dark days ahead for gun owners, small business owners, people making total household incomes of over 42,000.00 , big companies leaving because they are getting tax increases, my pay check handed out to those I saw in the VOTING line this morning that were making Obama statements about change, everyone of them looked like a student that is thinking I can get more money for school, and then there were the people there that were obviously voting by color because listening to them made me realize they never listened to the debates, and then there were the ones who looked like they were bums that think they are gonna get more for nothing. Yes I am sorry you can not always judge a book by its cover but most of my life has been spent characterizing people before hiring them and 95 percent of the time I hit the nail on the head if they were going to work out or not. Color is not a factor with me either, I would have voted for Condalezza Rice in a heart beat, and before Colin Powell made his recent comments I would have voted for him. Biden, considers him and John old friends? Biden is a used car dealer he will say what ever fits the moment. And poor McCain has to watch every time he turns around because some one ties it to Bush. Ya well tell me what Bush has done, the economy nto Dems pushed Fannie may and Freddie Mac, The war that was a Unilateral U.N. decision and it was backed by congress. Companies leaving the U.S. try Bill Clinton’s NAFTA! 9/11 was the kick off and everything is falling into place as Osama BinLaden had forseen, we panicked and the country started a down hill roll. Yes we spend millions in Iraq, we spend millions in Afghanistan, Korea, and Vietnam too. We have troops all over the place but Obama wants you to focus on Iraq. And we seem to over look his constant comments on going into Pakistan. I am for it but he makes it sound like it’s different than going into Iraq, the Taliban went there because we drove them from Afghanistan and they will keep on moving away from the heat. But they will come back here there’s a Liberal in there now with control of the house, they know they can attack without fear they remember the Clinton years where there is no retaliation. Lebanon, Yemen, 93 World trade Center…….

They wont !!!!!crime will get worse than you can ever think of

Most criminals always have to wonder before they break in ,or try to rob you ! If you or someone around is armed and can defend themselves

Its not the point about if he is against concealed gun carry or not. I’m a devout gun lover and democrat, and I don’t care about little crap like this. He isn’t going to stop concealed permits anymore than Mccain is going to stop abortion…which is a relief. The importance is the big picture, the economy and if you idiots want to not get a tax break when Obama wins, I’ll be happy to take it from ya when he wins.”

Democrats don’t own guns unless they’re using them to rob a person or a place.

    Translation of Davis’ comments:

“Change the tax code to help middle class families rather than big corporations and the wealthy.” = Penalize the most productive Americans. Transfer their earned wealth to the ruling elite and leave a little bit to buy votes from the poor.

“Change the health care system to provide health care to all children.” = Ration health care to those that the government deems worthy.

“Change foreign policy to be more inclusive rather than divise (sic).” = Yield American sovereignty to ‘world leaders’.

“Change our strategy in the middle east to start using more of our exceptional miltary (sic) personnel for fighting terrorists where they are based and growing in strength.” = Run hither and yon chasing bin Laden instead of pursuing a long term plan of bringing freedom to an oppressed part of the world.

“Change the energy plan to be more effective, efficient, safe and productive.” = Tell me what temperature at which I’m allowed to set the thermostat in my own home. Tell me I’m only allowed to consume x amount of energy annually and do without afterwards. Etcetera.

“Change the education system to provide better opportunity for more Americans to go to college…” I’m not sure what to make of this since all Americans of sound mind have the opportunity to attend college now.

“… and improve learning environments for children.” = Teach American children how bad America is and how good other nations are. Teach them more effective methods of placing condoms on cucumbers.

“Change economic policy so that our banking industry has some actual rules to follow rather than letting them run themselves into the ground and lose our money.” = Place even more politicians’ cronies in even more places of economic power so they can practice even more corruption and feed the wealthy ruling elite class at the expense of ‘non-elite’ Americans.

“Change is coming. These changes sound pretty good to me.” = Get ready to see the free United States of America disappear as it evolves into the United Socialist States of America.

    To Davis, who wrote:
“Also, I’m a city boy, so maybe I don’t understand this, but why would anyone other than a police officer need to carry a concealed weapon? I understand owning guns for home protection and hunting and all that, but why would you need to have a hidden weapon on you? Seriously. I’m not trying to be sarcastic. I just don’t see why.”

Concealed carry is about more than sticking a gun in our pocket and walking down the street. Most CCW holders most commonly use the permit to carry the gun in the vehicle. True, you could sit it on the dash so everyone could see it and you could make a bunch of people uncomfortable. Then again, you could also stick it int eh glove box or console and tuck it away so people aren’t uncomfortable and you don’t have to worry about it sliding around the car or something like that (a stupid example I know). The laws concerning concealed carry into most establishments supersede the CCW law itself, so if a place says yo cant carry the gun in.. you cant carry the gun in. Guns are NEVER concealed in establishments that have open container alcohol, in school zones, banks and a number of other places.

So basically, whether or not you wish to carry a concealed weapon or open carry a weapon or even own a weapon is up to you. However, I like to believe that it is also my decision (as a citizen in good standing having committed no crimes (as well as undergone a full FBI background check) and taken a state approved course on safety and the laws regarding the gun) to make that decision for myself rather than someone else making that decision for me. In a possibly overzealous example, if you can decide for me what I can and can’t do with my guns… whats next? Will you tell me I need to sell my Corvette because there is no need to have a car that will do over 150 MPH, maybe you don’t like that I have a dog (a Siberian Husky, German Shepherd, Great Dane, etc) because you think they are mean, why should I be able to take martial arts when it teaches a person the ability to mortally injure… there are cops for protection after all, and on and on it goes. So you tell me where it would stop and at what point the government would stop taking away my rights.

  30. tom on November 1st, 2008 5:15 pm

First Obama will disarm the people and then he will disarm the nation to the point we will become a second rate nation who cannot defend its self. I’m sure the bad guy will bring his own weapon. The idea of ccw is supprise. Put a gun in the glove box and you are inviting some one to steal it and there goes another gun in the wrong hands. If all the up standing people turn in their carry permits and guns then only the bad guys will carry concealed weapons due to the fact that they don’t care what the law says. The people who do have a concealed wepons permit are screened upright citizens who are of no danger to any one accept a person trying to rob them or worse.

I AM A FORMER NAVAL AVIATOR AND I DID FLY JETS ON TO AND OFF OF AIRCRAFT CARRIERS! I KNOW THAT IF YOU TOOK ANY PILOT ON THE EARTH THAT 99.9% OF THEM COULD NOT LAND OR TAKE OFF FROM AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER. ALSO KNOW THAT NAVAL AVIATORS DO NOT LIE TO EACH OTHER OR ANYONE ELSE BECAUSE OUR LIVES DEPEND UPON WHAT EACH OF US DO! WHEN AN AIRCRAFT CARRIER LEAVES PORT AND BEGINS FLIGHT OPERATIONS, BELEIVE ME COMBAT IS EASIER! SO FOR THE DUMMY THAT BLAMES MCCAIN FOR LOSING AN AIRCRAFT, MAYBE THEY NEED TO KNOW WHAT ANTI-AIRCRAFT FIRE DOES TO AN AIRPLANE, BE IT A CANNON SHELL, THE SIZE OF A FOOTBALL OR A HEAT SEAKING MISSLE GOING 3 TIMES THE SPEED OF SOUND AND WHEN IT HITS THE AIRCRAFT MORE OFTEN THAN NOT THE PILOT DIES, BUT IF HE’S LUCKY AND IT EXPLODES NEAR HIS OR HER AIRCRAFT THEN MAYBE JUST MAYBE THE PILOT WILL BE ABLE TO EJECT AND IF THEY ARE LUCKY ENOUGH TO SURVIE THE EJECTION, THEN THEY HAVE TO RELY UOPN THEIR “SEAR” TRAINING AND HOPE THEY GET “EXTRACTED” BEFORE THEY GET CAPTURED! BUT AFTER BEING SHOT AT ALL DAY LONG ON A TARGET EVERY NAVAL AVIATOR MUST COME BACK TO THE AIRCRAFT CARRIER AND MAKE A LANDING ON A DECK THAT IS ALWAYS PITCHING AND ROLLING AND MORE THAN LIKELY AT NIGHT AND I’LL GIVE YOU ONE MILLION DOLLARS IF YOU OR ANYONE ELSE CAN MAKE THAT LANDING WITHOUT BEING TRAININED AS A NAVAL AVIATOR! THE NAVY, MARINE CORPS AND THE COAST GUARD ARE THE ONLY SERVICE THAT HAVE THE PILOTS GOOD ENOUGH TO EVEN START THE TRAINING LET ALONE FINISH, SO TAKE YOUR CRAP ABOUT MCCAIN CRASHING AN AIRCRAFT AND PUT IT WHERE THE SUN WILL NEVER SHINE AND THAT’S IN YOUR ROTTEN HATEFULL UN-AMERICAN SELFISH SELF CENTERED HOLE OF A (”HEART”) WHERE IT USED TO BE BEFORE YOU WERE FILLED WITH BS FROM TMZ, MY SPACE AND OBAMA, ALL OF IT AND YOU ARE FAKES AND DO NOT DESERVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE AND IF IT WERE UP TO ME YOU WOULD BE DEPORTED FOR TELLING LIES ABOUT PEOPLE YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT! YOU KNOW WHY EUROPE HAS SO FEW LAW SUITS, BECAUSE IF YOU FILE A BS LAW SUIT AND YOU LOSE YOU PAY ALL THE EXPENSES, JUDGE, JURY, ATTORNEYS, COURTS, ETC AND I SUPPOSE YOU WERE FOR EDWARDS BEFORE HE SHOWED HIS TURE COLORS!

No country has ever successfully invaded the United States BECAUSE Americans are armed. This is why the 2nd amendment was written. Hitler removed the guns from Poland, and 1 Pole with a pistol wreaked havoc with the invading Nazi’s for hours. I would prefer my guns not be wrenched from my cold dead fingers, should NObama (from a bumper sticker) be elected. That’s the only way they will be taken, and I speak also for many friends.

I don’t think McCain would do a good job with the economy and I don’t want Palin as a VP…then there’s Obama, inexperienced and arrogant to beleive he knows better than us about protecting ourselves. This country is so hypocritcal. We have the left screaming that we don’t need more guns, but then alcohol and cars kill more people everyday..I don’t see them making a stand against that. Then the right is screaming he’s a muslim and a terrorist. If this country fails, its the people, not the government. We’re the ones who elect these bozos and stand by party lines instead of doing whats right as a whole. I’m moving to another country….well, maybe not.

THE MAIN REASON TO HAVE A COCEALED CARRY PERMIT IS TO PROTECT INNOCENT LIFE.
AN ATTACK ON YOUR LIFE CAN TAKE PLACE ANYWHERE OR AT ANYTIME.POLICE ARE VERY RARELY IN THE VICINITY WHERE A CRIME TAKES PLACE.RELY ON YOUR PD IF YOU WANT TO .MOST OF THE TIME THEY SHOW UP IN TIME TO DO THE PAPERWORK OVER YOUR CORPSE.
THIS IS NOT A SLANT AGAINST OUR POLICE,THEY JUST CANT BE EVERYWHERE AT ONCE.CRIMINALS HAVE GUNS AND USE THEM OFTEN.HAVING A CONCEALED CARRY PERMIT IS A CHEAP INSURANCE
POLICY.IT IS BETTER TO HAVE ONE AND NOT NEED IT.THAN TO NEED ONE AND NOT HAVE IT.CRIMINALS PREFER UNARMED VICTIMS.

Under “Crime and Law Enforcement” on Obama’s website, it states “As president, Barack Obama will support … the CeaseFire program … implement a comprehensive public health approach that implements a community-based strategy to prevent youth violence. He … would repeal the Tiahrt Amendment … support closing the gun show loophole … support making the expired federal Assault Weapons Ban permanent, as such weapons belong on foreign battlefields and not on our streets.”

No one told him that the guns covered under the AWB are not used on foreign battlefields and that those guns are already restricted by other laws.

  40. K. Johannsen on November 2nd, 2008 11:40 pm

City Boy asked why we need conceal carry licenses.
Quite simply, open carry is outlawed in most areas; and most gun owners are law abiding citizens.
If you pay attention to the news (and you really have to pay attention because it is terribly under-reported), you would learn that many crimes are averted by legal gun owners with conceal licenses who surprise criminals in the act.
When seconds count, the police are only minutes away, if you’re lucky.
Have you even bothered to check to see how many sex predators live within a mile of your home?

Get your head out of the sand. The world is full of in-humane “humans”, who would like nothing better than for the government to make his life easier by taking away our right to defend ourselves. He (she) won’t have to put as much effort into his crimes, and the payout will be multiplied.
Unfortunately, taking our right to conceal carry is going to turn many law abiding citizens into law breakers, just doing the same peaceful things they’ve done for years. You know, I bet they are going to suddenly find space in these over-populated prisons for the peaceful gun carriers. What a big show will be made as they are locked up.
Perhaps when the percentage of REAL criminals becomes the majority; Maybe then those ostriches will wake up and smell the coffee. It will probably be too late.

Look sure that he will increase police protection for all of us, so that we will have twenty-four/seven protection for every family in our country. Did I say that? Talk to a person in law enforcement and they will tell you they cannot be there twenty-four/seven. Sometimes you may be responsible for you and your families protection till police arrive. In reality law enforcement does an outstanding job, but in many situations they deal crime after the fact.

Have classified thousands of inmates, including hundreds of condemned, they do not appreciate citizens who are able to protect themselves. Far better for them to think you can protect yourself, rather than for them to know you are unable to protect yourself. But what do I know, I only worked with them.

  50. ralpherus on November 3rd, 2008 4:50 pm

Attention Law Enforcement Personnell: Your oath of office demands that should some skank “higher rank than you” person give an order such as was treasonously given in new orleans after katrina, to go out and disarm folks- or worse- if fake charges are perpetrated so that you must go disarm Americans- your DUTY is to drop the scum into his shadow on the spot. Then, there. No jury of Americans would convict you. Of course, the judges may need to have the riot act read to them….

  51. ralpherus on November 3rd, 2008 4:56 pm

A person named steve said banks are OK unless posted not for concealed carry. Not in my state!!! People- when you get your concealed carry permit, your state’s laws wil be taught you…BUT: before going to other states, learn THEIR laws!! Someone else asked why need a carry permit…ever hear of carjackings? Armed robbery? And look folks-those who are milquetoast about guns: we do not carry so we can kill criminals. We carry so we can protect ourselves, if attacked…that is to say: STOP THE ATTACK. If pulling the gun stops it in time to not need to fire, and the body is able to not fire, then OK! If the attack continues and we are forced to fire- just trying to stop the attack! If the criminal dies, that is known as occupational hazard, and the criminal chose the occupation himself!

  52. ralpherus on November 3rd, 2008 4:59 pm

Ditto with treason… a criminal disrespects the rights of people, and so do traitors disrespect the rights of Americans…. and so, the occupational hazards involved in being a traitor- whether failing to disobey a traitor order given, or to be the traitor giving the treasonous order, are pretty dear indeed….. Why would someone want to be a scum traitor and get hauled out and sprayed with fuel, hung up, and lit by a most un-forgiving crowd of angry Americans, when simply living up to the oath to protect and defend the constitution is so easy to do?

  55. Johnny on November 3rd, 2008 5:11 pm

I find it rather discouraging that there is so much disparity among us who have (in theory) the same view of gun rights. We are already in a very precarious position, we have no real ability to defend ourselves against anyone but criminals that reside in this great land. This being said we need to regain rights not give more away. Lets start talking about how we can constructively change what exists, neither candidate is what we truly need.
I also find it a bit ridiculous how large a part religion plays in the opinions given in these posts. Religion has nothing to do with the sovereignty of this country, this country is based on individual effort combined into societal effort to make this the greatest country the world has ever seen, and the idea of electing government around this possible “end of days” scenario is as ridiculous an assertion as making decisions based on the tooth fairy. THIS IS NOT A FAIRY TALE PEOPLE!!! THESE ARE REAL LIVES YOU ARE PUTTING ON DEATHS DOOR TO PLAY OUT SOME END-TIMES, YOU SAVED GOD’S CHOSEN PEOPLE, DREAM!! STOP PLAYING GOD WITH OUR TROOP’S LIVES!!!!

  56. Tom Rowedder on November 3rd, 2008 5:13 pm

I am blown away by some of the comments on here. Basicaaly Obama’s plan will be to take the guns out of the hands of law-abiding citizens and leave them in the hands of the criminals only. I don’t recall hearing that Obama was going to give every American 24 hour police protection. Police are there after the fact (a clean up crew if you like) and I am the one who protects my daughter, our home and my life.

I don’t understand how anyone with a functioning brain would vote for this man. He is a socialist, has very shady associates and refuses to say the Pledge of Allegience and wear an American flag (just to name a few things). Do you really want someone like that in office? Take from the rich to give to the poor, give people a free ride who have done nothing to deserve it. If he is elected President, I will be ashamed to be an American!

People need to start thinking for themselves and stop listening to the liberal media and celebrities who are endorsing this man. Get a brain and stop letting people make decisions for you.

May God help us all if this man is elected President!

  58. john on November 3rd, 2008 5:50 pm

I live in a large city and I certainly need the protection of a conceal and carry more than I did when I didn’t live in the city. It is a serious problem, not merely in the home, hell I feel safer in my home. I am a small business owner and I will be damned if I give up all I have worked for because of some cowardly criminal.
We have given up too many of our rights as it is. Don’t forget the 10th amendment!!!! We don’t need bigger government! That just causes problems, that is history.

  60. LameBear on November 3rd, 2008 6:21 pm

Obama does not want to wear a ‘flag pin’ because he “does not want to take sides”? What the Hell does he think he will be doing as the President of the United States? I don’t want a creature who refused to recite the Pledge of Allegience as MY Commander and Chief. To all who have invalidated their oath to uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States, a quote - “Hanging it too good for a traitor”!
To all in the military, National Guard, Law Enforcement, etc., remember your oath when you are ordered to carry out an unlawful order against the very people you have sworn to protect.
To all in the unorganized militias of the several states - get ready to defend yourselves against the traitors in power.
To “City Boy”; I hold a CCW, I have for 5 or 6 years, I carry (yes, banks are o.k. in WY). I have had to pull my weapon once - pulling it was enough! My one, fervent hope is that I never have to use the weapon against another. However, you shoot rabid dogs, don’t you?
American has become a nation of willing sheep begging the shepherd to care for and provide for you. Just remember, every once in a while, the shepherd goes out, picks a sheep, pops it in the head, and eats it.
    Think about that!

We have been fighting socialism most of my adult life & I am in my 70’s. I am an Endowment member of the N.R.A. & served my time in the Army. I think that anyone who votes for obama should be charged with treason.

  62. Willy Makit on November 3rd, 2008 6:40 pm

It’s not rocket science! look at most people being interviewed and you will see and hear the most ignorant people, are in support of the things that have made them what they are, re-distribution of wealth = welfare, better education = more welfare so they won’t have to work, less tax on low income = it’s a push, they don’t pay tax anyway. And it goes on and on. Stock up on ammo, exciting times are ahead!

  63. Jeff on November 3rd, 2008 6:40 pm

I’m not expecting any trouble, but I carry a concealed weapon. It’s loaded. I’m not expecting a fire, but I also have a fire extinguisher. It’s loaded too. I’m a Deputy Sheriff, and believe in the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Unless there is a legal reason you can’t own/posess firearms (ie: felon) I believe you have a RIGHT to own/carry a weapon for protection of yourself and your loved ones. Cops aren’t always immediately available. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

  64. Larryio on November 3rd, 2008 7:17 pm

Any of you who don’t believe in guns or CCW, why not put up a sign in front of your house saying “No Guns Here”.

Maybee the cops might get there in five minutes when you call 911, maybee not.

  65. Doug Edwards on November 3rd, 2008 7:42 pm

People say the only person that needs to carry a gun is the police. Well that is what Hitler said in 1940 just before him and his socialistis gov. killed 5 million jews. we all know that disarming the puplic is the first step in a socialistis gov like some people want

  66. Bill on November 3rd, 2008 7:54 pm

I Have a MN. carry permit to protect my family and myself I am also a instructor for carry permits and believe that everyone who can legally carry and wants to should do so Obama will try to disarm America and if not him there are plenty others that will. Hold on to your faith and your guns and we shall remain free. We all have too remember when the government gives you something they are taking much much more away.

  67. Jerry on November 3rd, 2008 7:55 pm

I suggest all the good Obama followers show they really believe what they are saying and put up a sign in front of their homes advertising it as a “GUN FREE HOUSE” so all the bad guys will know you will do them no harm.. However, my family is protected by many people - Smith and Wesson, Sam Colt, Remington and a host of others. Because I believe when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

  68. Robert on November 3rd, 2008 8:08 pm

Instead of taking the GUNS out of innocent people how about making the laws tougher so that a crimmal that is caught a second time with a gun stays in jail his term plus 10 more years, keep the crimmals in jail and maybe the good people wouldn’t have to use their guns to protect themselves. I wouldn’t be without my guns. I say get rid of the crimmals make those laws tougher.

  69. Jason Sowers on November 3rd, 2008 8:40 pm

Okay, for all you people on the fence tonight. Obama uses a tagline that we are spending $10 Billion a month over in Iraq, money we can spend in the US. Basically, he is misleading you and lying to you, which is a central theme of his campaign. Stop to consider if our military was not in Iraq or even Afghanistan for a moment, would we just not spend that moeny on our military? Would we stop paying our soldiers, buying new equipment? Would we stop transporting our ships or flying our planes? Of course not, we would still be spending a large portion of the money. There are costs pertaining to both wars that increase the spending, but in reality, much of the funding would be spent regardless. So keep this in mind, knowing that you have been mislead and lied to much of the campaign, by someone who has less experience than the other three people running to be President or Vice President. He actually has less experience than an average small business owner with about 10 employees. He has no idea…

  70. Nick LoGrasso on November 3rd, 2008 9:10 pm

Typical Obama misleading and double talk. If you choose to take my right to defend my family you are more than welcome to come try and get my guns. If you can get by my rifles, shotguns and my 1911 Col.45 you can have them.

I come from a police service family, and military. I was a police explorer 5 yrs and im a security officer licensed by OH Dept of Public Safety,Div of Homeland Security, and im an SM in the CAP USAF AUX http://www.cap.gov

Police support the 2nd amendment and concealed carry laws, You ask why? Because it helps lower violent crime. States with a CCW law have much lower crime than states with out it. I hold a CCW Permit. In fact alot of law enforcement officers both active and retired not only hold a police officer commission they also hold a CCW Permit. President Bush in 2004 signed the natonal cop carry bill which now says active duty and retired officers can carry in all 50 States. Criminals and terrorists go after people they think are un-armed. They use knives as weapons amoung anything else including a kitchen fork. You maysay a kitchen fork? Yeah, a Deputy Sheriff was killed in the line of duty when a convicted felon attacked him with a fork, the Deputy sprayed him with pepper spray but it didnt work he got stabbed rght into the heart he died instantly. The criminal killed him, a man with all kinds of weapons on a duty belt. What makes You think violent criminals wont harm citizens? Did You know more citizens are killed by criminals every year than the police and military put together ? thats not saying police and military arent important or dangerous. They are dangerous jobs and very needed for defense of our country. But the lawful citizens who have the 2nd amendment rights also deserve CCW because they to are defenders of the country

Take a look at how many security officers are killed in line of duty every year, many of them un-armed, so dont tell me that We should not have CCW Laws. http://www.privateofficer.com

2nd amendment says right to bear arms, if you carry your keys on your belt where people can see You are bearing (Carrying) your keys, if the same keys are hidden from people views You still are bearing (carrying) your keys. So the 2nd amendment does support CCW law.

I am a FL resident and carry. As un-PC as my profession is, it is not going away. Many of you know me as I have had several magazine articles in national gun publications.

I want to keep my guns,
    My religion,
    And my money!

    You keep the change.

  75. Larryio on November 4th, 2008 1:00 pm

I too have had my CCW for over 10 years now. I don’t carry everywhere but, being in Texas, I always carry when I go to eat in a restaurant.

We had a small skirmish in a Luby’s Restaurant back in 1991 here, and if just ONE person had been armed ….

it’s unfortunate the election process has become centered on very negative media contests that only inflame the voters…..as a result of the mindless onslaught with the negative stategies….citizens see cadidates as unworthy leaders… the truth becomes secondary to negative type casting …we need to reset what is acceptable…..we can shut off all media presentations 6 months before an electon…..let the public arrange the debate questions…which can only be answered in the first person (I)thereby eliminating each candidate speaking for his opponet’s position….there were no directed questions regarding the gun issues…..this was not an missed item of interest… neither McCain or Obama can be seen as pro-gun…..we the people can speak out and should when gun issues are before the legislative system….write letters ,send postcards, call your rep’s…you will be heard….another election is only two-four years out …politicians need your vote to be elected….make them earn it…. jds

  78. Mike on November 4th, 2008 7:55 pm

This country has way too many narrow-minded people to be as “United” as we would like to be.

As we see in this election there are so many voters that only vote for a particular political party. That’s pretty narrow-minded.
There are also voters who vote for a particular candidate just because he’s black or just because he’s not black. That’s so narrowminded that it’s pure racist on both sides.

Think for yourselves and think freely. If you open your mind, you’ll find neither candidate shares ALL the same values as you.
Believe it or not, it is possible to be a life NRA member who supports the option of abortion. It’s also possible to support the Second Amendment and not believe in a god.

Wake up America. Our narrow-minded behaviors are what keep us from being united.

Vote the issues, not the party, skin color, or religion.

In NO way am I forfieting my CCW. In no way am I relinquishing my personal property to any agency. In no way am I pawning off my personal RIGHT(2nd Amendmant) to a rogue goverment. I will die on my feet before I do on my knees. You cannot reason or consull with factions that have already set out to do harm. Get a clue and wake up! Let the sportsmen and those at risk allowed to be so, themselves. Change….no. Promises, yes. BS yes. It will be so lop sided now and it deviates from what this country was based on. Fairness to all.
