Before he resigned, he was one of the most conservative Democrats in the U.S. Senate. He is a good friend of the Bush family. He has been the mentor and sponsor of two CIA directors, George Tenet and Bob Gates. He was a supporter of the Reagan foreign policy. Boren resigned from his third term in the U.S. Senate in 1994, when he had two years remaining. The year earlier, he was being outed as queer in the gay press and accused of sexually harassing his male staff members (click on my link for samples from gay publications). He has been trying to get back to Washington ever since, and has been hitching his wagon to the stars of various politicians along the way. He endorsed Obama only because he was betting that Obama would win, and reward him with an appointment.
