Reporter Grills Joe Biden: How Is Obama not Being a Marxist?

Posted on October 25, 2008

Watch this local reporter grill Joe Biden. It’s refreshing to see Joe’s frustrated face when he discovers he didn’t walk into a powder puff interview and actually has to answer tough questions.

WFTV-Channel 9’s Barbara West conducted a satellite interview with Sen. Joe Biden on Thursday. A friend says it’s some of the best entertainment he’s seen recently. What do you think?

West wondered about Sen. Barack Obama’s comment, to Joe the Plumber, about spreading the wealth. She quoted Karl Marx and asked how Obama isn’t being a Marxist with the “spreading the wealth” comment.

“Are you joking?” said Biden, who is Obama’s running mate. “No,” West said.

West later asked Biden about his comments that Obama could be tested early on as president. She wondered if the Delaware senator was saying America’s days as the world’s leading power were over.

“I don’t know who’s writing your questions,” Biden shot back.

Biden so disliked West’s line of questioning that the Obama campaign canceled a WFTV interview with Jill Biden, the candidate’s wife.

“This cancellation is non-negotiable, and further opportunities for your station to interview with this campaign are unlikely, at best for the duration of the remaining days until the election,” wrote Laura K. McGinnis, Central Florida communications director for the Obama campaign.

McGinnis said the Biden cancellation was “a result of her husband’s experience yesterday during the satellite interview with Barbara West.”

Heh! How dare they ask tough questions! They shall be punished. We are taking our ball and going home…crying the whole way.

Newsbusters has a great post on this one.
Michelle Malkin says it’s the best interview with Joe Biden evah!

I guess you didn’t notice the softball questions she gave John. Socialism, by the by, is when you give a bailout to companies that failed. That’s socialism. Having those that benefit from such consistent treatment by paying a few percentage points more in taxes, a move McCain endorsed not less than a year ago, is not socialism. You sir, are a moron.

The interviewer ofJoe Biden was entertaining. The media should be more careful to hide its kooks.

I wonder what would happen if Sarah Palin ever took some questions.

  4. donna on October 25th, 2008 7:40 pm

I wonder if you ever heard of katie couric or charles gibson. If I remember correctly they both interviewed her plus many other reporters. Where have you been?

  5. Patrick Beachley on October 25th, 2008 8:01 pm

The socialist bailout is right out of the Democrat handbook. Don’t blame the Republicans. Nancy Pelosi said, “The Republicans are unpatriotic for not supporting the rescue plan.”

  6. Libby McLiberal on October 25th, 2008 9:56 pm

    She interviewed McCain today.

Funny, she didn’t say to McCain, “You may recognize this famous quote, ‘Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power’ That’s from Benito Mussolini . How are you not being a Fascist when you constantly support corporate interests over actual citizens and endorse citizen funded bail-outs by the State?”

She didn’t say to McCain, “You may recognize this famous quote, ‘Fascism..believes neither in the possibility nor the utility of perpetual peace.’ That’s from Benito Mussolini. How are you not being a Fascist when you say we will be at war for another hundred years?”

She didn’t say to McCain, “You may recognize this famous quote, ‘All propaganda must be so popular and on such an intellectual level, that even the most stupid of those toward whom it is directed will understand it.’ That’s from Adolf Hitler. How are you not being a Fascist when you incessantly brings up “Joe the Plumber.”

She didn’t say to McCain, “You may recognize this famous quote, ‘Terrorism is the best political weapon for nothing drives people harder than a fear of sudden death.’ That’s from Adolf Hitler. How is Sarah Palin not being a Fascist when she says that “Obama is palling around with terrorists.”

She didn’t say to McCain, “You may recognize this famous quote, ‘The efficiency of the truly national leader consists primarily in preventing the division of the attention of a people, and always in concentrating it on a single enemy.’ That’s from Adolf Hitler. How are you not being a Fascist when you are always concentrating on Al Qaeda as a single enemy.

She didn’t say to McCain, “You may recognize this famous quote, ‘State intervention in economic production arises only when private initiative is lacking or insufficient, or when the political interests of the State are involved. This intervention may take the form of control, assistance or direct management..’ That’s from Benito Mussolini. How are you not being a Fascist when you endorse the bail-out of certain politically connected banks by the State?

WellIi say THIS to Barbara West. You may recognize THIS famous quote, “Not every item of news should be published. Rather must those who control news policies endeavor to make every item of news serve a certain purpose.” That’s from Joseph Goebbels. How are you not being a fascist when you ask pointed questions like that!

Biden is a moron and a shill of the highest order. Of course Obama is a socialist, just read his book, “The Audacity of Hope”, to see for yourself.

If the MSM has been unfair to anyone, it’s Palin and Hillary. Both of them were/are grilled by the MSM yet Obama gets a free pass.

  8. Carl on October 26th, 2008 6:52 am

Nice interview, Barbara, you asked some very honest questions that Joe Biden isn’t used to. The Obama Campaign has no room to complain when I’ve never seen Obama or Biden actually lied to during an interview(like misquoting the National Review magazine, or playing a shell game with what the Bush Doctrine means during Sarah Palin interviews).

  9. Roger W. Gardner on October 26th, 2008 11:36 am

    Great interview.
I recommend Barbara West for McCains’s Press Secretary.

I’m wondering at this point if anyone really knows what socialism and Marxism are… Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and the creation of an egalitarian society. Unless I’m missing a huge part of Obama’s policy plans, he’s not advocating corporate takeover of the means of production.

  14. Doug on October 26th, 2008 3:47 pm

Maybe journalism isn’t totally dead afterall.
There is a huge difference between the financial bailout and the welfare Program that Obama is disguising as tax cuts: The bailout boosted the collapsing financial system. Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae played significant parts in this collapse. (Thank you, Barney Frank!) If the voters are really dumb enough to buy the load of garbage that Obama and Biden are selling, then maybe they deserve to relive the Jimmy Carter years because if Obama wins, that is what we will get. I am old enough to remember that and it was awful.

  15. Ifticar on October 26th, 2008 3:59 pm

Poor Joe. He is not use to being asked tough questions by the MSM. He should walk in Palin’s shoes for a day or two.

  16. Victor on October 26th, 2008 4:29 pm

Gov. Palin was also interviewed by Sean Hannity (Fox) and Brian Williams (NBC).

  17. Rick on October 26th, 2008 8:49 pm

I could totally live next door to Sarah Palin. She’s hot. LOL
All joking aside, John McCain been in the Senate for 26 years. Obomber’s only beent here less than 2. Nuff said.

Biden did a great job answering those questions…..i, for one, would like to know which interview you were looking at when you say that Biden was entertaining….he did a great job….better than Sarah Palin…that’s for sure…she would have said…wait a minute…i will get back to you on that one or she will avoid them all together….

  19. Lorina on October 26th, 2008 9:08 pm

I have been dying to say those words to the Rush Limbaugh people and Republicans like him out there…in the words of Rocky Belboa’s wife “you won’t win!!!”….ha ha ha…look at reality for once….the polls are very telling…

I wonder why Americans are sooo afraiid of SOCIALISM (NOT communism, USA’a no. 1 enemy in the 1900-s)?
Socialism is a way of life (or a system widely used) in West European countries: Germany, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands etc all have their Socialist-…. (something) parties, be it Socialist-Democrats, Socialist-Liberal, Christian-Democrat-Socialist alliance, etc.
THEY ARE ALL NATO MEMBERS, NON-communists states, but PRACTICE SPREAD OF THE WEALTH
(i.e. taxing the rich bigger than taxing the poorer, and give to the poor government’s help in money, food etc).
I have read that USA IS THE ONLY INDUSTRIAL ADVANCED COUNTRY THAT DOESN’T PRACTICE FAIR DISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH.
In the still developing (or backward) countries, there is no system with THE JUSTNESS I see in Europe:
In Indonesia the RICH can escape tax by bribing the officers, the RICH BECOME RICHER, the poor will always be poor, and THE STATE HAVE NOT MUCH TAX-INCOME, of course.
I envy European system, and Obama sounds like them, why are Americans inclined to Asian system? (”UNEQUALITIES JUSTIFIED = UNSOCIALISM according to you?)

I read that the gap of incomes of the 10% RICHEST USA people with the 90% poor/MIDDLE people becomes bigger in 2008 compared with 10 years ago. I think bARBARA West must be among the 10% top,so to oppose rising the taxes of the rich (and lowering the middle’s taxes).

Hmm… not sure what you all were watching, but Joe handled that interview very well. Don’t worry, the Obama/Biden presidency is close, and you can all sit back and reap the benefits… just be sure to thank the rest of us when you do.

  22. Om santi on October 26th, 2008 10:15 pm

Socialism is NOT the same as communism of Karl Marx (no. 1 US enemy 20 years ago).
Socialism is a way of life in the WESTERN EUROPE (Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain etc) governed by Socialist-…. (something) parties (Socialist-Democrats, Socialist-Liberals, Socialist-Christian-Democrats alliances etc).

It is USUAL IN WEST EUROPEAN (NATO)COUNTRIES TO SPREAD THE WEALTH BY TAXING THE TOP RICH FAR GREATER THAN THE MIDDLE (the poor ones don’t get taxed but get govt help instead, money, food etc).

I read in Yahoo USA IS THE ONLY ONE INDUSTRIAL COUNTRY NOT PRACTICING FAIR DISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH: the GAP from the top 10% USA RICHEST compared to the bottom 90% is wide in 2008 compared to 1998.
It is the same as developed (or backward) countries’ system:
In Indonesia THE RICH CAN EVADE TAXES BY BRIBING TAX OFFICERS,THE RICH BECOME RICHER,the poor will always be poor, and THE STATE HAS NOT ENOUGH INCOME (FROM TAXES) of course.

Does anti-socialism Americans like ASIAN system (UNEVENLY DISTRIBUTION- UNSOCIALISM)?
Is Barbara West among the top 10% Americans such as she opposes rising the richest taxes? (or lowering the middle class’ taxes)

  23. hans on October 27th, 2008 1:15 pm

that was not a “tough” question at ALL, lol! It was preposterous and insulting, and Senator Biden answered it perfectly.

The upper castes and corporations have had their hands in the communal cookie jar WAY too much during the last eight years and YES, it’s MORE than time to correct the problem and make things equitable and fair again.

  24. ken benobi on October 27th, 2008 4:05 pm

    Socialism?

    * How about that $1,000,000,000,000+ ($1 Trillion for you poor boys) McBush and the GOP are transferring from YOU, the American Taxpayer, to Wall Street’s fat pockets?

    * How ’bout that $500,000,000,000 ($500B) YOU the American Taxpayers have transferred to the “government” of ours in IRAQ?!?!?

    * How ’bout that $1-billion/year McBushCorporate CEO’s were allowed to transfer from mutual funds, pension holders and the millions of laid off workers right into their pay packages?

Painting OBAMA as socialist (not to mention calling him a terrorist and worse)

    * won’t build any new bridges, pave our streets or pay cops and firefighers

    * WON’T get our $10B/week back from IRAQ and it

    * SURE THE HELL WON’T get that low-paying dead end job of yours back…. now will it?!?!?

    Good luck with that!

  25. Marie on October 27th, 2008 5:21 pm

I thought Biden handled each question great. I don’t see the big deal with him asking her if that question was a joke. The only one who came out looking bad was Barbara. Then again Palin is a complete fool too and the demise of McCain’s campaign.

In a way I wish they could silences all the crap republicans are trying to send me. But I ’spose thats all been said before.

    Is Obama a Martian?

Why is this not being discussed?

  30. John on October 28th, 2008 12:46 am

I applaud Barbara West. This is what journalism should be. I think folks get so used to seeing the softball interviews and free passes given to the Obama campaign that when they see a real interview with hard hitting perfectly reasonable questions they don’t recognize it and don’t know how to react and call it unfair. You saw Biden do this himself in the interview, where he was shocked the questions were not the status quo softball variety. The hard hitting questions (no matter what side of the aisle) must be asked and must be answered and then let the folks decide. That’s how it supposed to work. But instead the vast majority is liberal bias journalism and we should be very concerned about that.
