Meltdown In Biden Land Over Tough Questions

Posted on October 25, 2008

Barbara West with WFTV in Orlando decided that, unlike the majority of the Credentialed Media, she would, you know, be a journalist and ask the tough questions, and Joe Biden and the Obama campaign were not amused

West wondered about Sen. Barack Obama’s comment, to Joe the Plumber, about spreading the wealth. She quoted Karl Marx and asked how Obama isn’t being a Marxist with the “spreading the wealth” comment.

“Are you joking?” said Biden, who is Obama’s running mate. “No,” West said.

West later asked Biden about his comments that Obama could be tested early on as president. She wondered if the Delaware senator was saying America’s days as the world’s leading power were over.

“I don’t know who’s writing your questions,” Biden shot back.

Biden so disliked West’s line of questioning that the Obama campaign canceled a WFTV interview with Jill Biden, the candidate’s wife.

Meltdown ensued. God forbid the Obama camp allow tough questions. And God help Ms. West if Obama wins. $100 says she loses her job, and WFTV has lots of FCC issues.

WFTV news director Bob Jordan said, “When you get a shot to ask these candidates, you want to make the most of it. They usually give you five minutes.”

Jordan said political campaigns in general pick and choose the stations they like. And stations often pose softball questions during the satellite interviews.

“Mr. Biden didn’t like the questions,” Jordan said. “We choose not to ask softball questions.”

You can watch the video of the exchange here. It’s a bit slow on buffering, because it is getting hit hard by the DUmmies, who are not happy that anyone would question The One and his Left Hand Guy. Thug Thizzle.

Others joining in: Michelle Malkin, The Jawa Report, Newsbusters, The Daley Gator, and Wake Up America.

Joe Biden in the words of Grampa Simpson: “You’re as dumb as a mule and twice as ugly.”

  2. Steven on October 25th, 2008 12:03 pm

If Joe Biden cannot answer the tough questions now, how is he going to answer the tough questions “IF” he gets elected. Americans demand this of there elected officials

  4. JSBolton on October 25th, 2008 1:14 pm

Thank goodness the media is not all derelicts when it comes to a leftward candidate. The left should lose massively for using finacial panic-mongering to get power.

  5. Rick on October 25th, 2008 1:23 pm

Notice that Biden just flat out lied? He said the Obama campaign has not given ACORN any money.

Biden lies constantly but rarely if ever gets called on it.

  6. jillian on October 25th, 2008 2:19 pm

Biden did an excellent job of shutting up her lying, uninformed mouth.

    Obama/Biden ‘08

It find it wry that while Bacack Obama professes willingness to talk to our nationn’s worst enemies, without precondition, he will only talk to medie outlets that will only ask soffball questions. The Obama/Bidne ticket goes toe toe to two with Barbara West and loees.

I have the vid up from YouTube, linked here.
I’d assume Youtube can handle the load better tha the TV station.

  9. Peach on October 25th, 2008 3:37 pm

The reporter better watch out. The lefty brownshirts are digging in her past and Obama thugs in government are snooping through her files. Reporter crossed the line, she dared to ask the unprepared Obama campaign an off script question.

  10. McCian=Bush on October 25th, 2008 5:08 pm

You folks on the right side are sooo gonna be pounded at the polls. You can lie about Biden, lie about your next president, lie about anything. Change is coming, and it is gonna run right over you. Hey, at least you have Gov. palin, right?

Why would Biden answer such asinine questions in the first place? They were credible questions; they were loaded, leading questions. The foundation of true journalism is objectivity. (Hint: note the word “reporting.”) West isn’t a journalist…unless she’s looking to hire on at the National Enquirer. I should know…I have a degree in Journalism and 30 years in the field. I’ve worked with good, intelligent journalists. West most assuredly isn’t one.

    Alexandra………. good point.

Once again the left is attcking the interviewer, and not answering the question” Why isn’t wealth redistribution not socialism?

    Why isn’t Obama’s plan Marxist?

  14. bartonizer on October 25th, 2008 9:22 pm

Wow, conservatives have different priorities than Democrats. Nothing uplifting or attractive to independents, that’s for sure. They have no interest in listening to any answers whatsoever. Their ideal questions would probably sound like something during the Inquisition or the Salem Witch Trial. Since everyone is presumed guilty, there is only confession or denial. I dare you to listen to the whole Joe the Plumber interview, or any other Biden or Obama interview from start to finish. They actually talk about issues. You guys are obselete, and if you don’t refocus and pointing fingers, you’re going to be relegated as the minority party for years to come! Cheers to people that think!

  15. investomatic on October 25th, 2008 9:33 pm

How come Biden hasn’t had to reckon with his plagiarism and cheating in college.? The interviewer must be stupid, the Obamas have given big$$$ to Acorn. He’s a vain fool with his hair replacement, phony teeth and face stretch.

  16. Abby on October 25th, 2008 10:20 pm

The tone of this interview was fairly close to the Palin interviews with Charlie G and Katie C. Guess Jabbering Joe was not prepared to actually have to defend his main man. I agree the questions were “leading”…but that does not mean they were wrong. It’s about time someone started calling a spade a spade in this election. Joe the Plumber is thoroughly investigated by the media within 48 hours of becoming known and yet Barack Obama is still an “unknown”….after more than 4 years on the national stage. Anyone who does not think the mainstream media is in the tank for Obama is either an idiot or a moron….take your choice.

  17. Dave B on October 25th, 2008 10:37 pm

bartonizer: come on buddy, Democrats are uplifting? I feel like slicing my throat after hearing them talk for five minutes. I’m an Independant but I’m confused on what “issues” we’re talking about. We don’t need debates on how many angels dance on the head of a needle. Defense of our nation, small government vs. big government, and approach to economic growth and views on taxes are the issues of the day and there are clear differences. The candidates’ views on these issues will lead a reasonable and prudent person to understand how they would approach the rest and to dismiss and disregard the “chicken in every pot” approach ALL candidates take every election season.

  18. yugh sarab on October 25th, 2008 11:12 pm

It’s easy to take things out of context as has been exemplified by both parties. However, the Republicans have used fear tactics, innuendo and half-truths to get votes. If they stayed on message and not try to personally attack the candidates perhaps we’d get a better look at the REAL ISSUES and not a look at REAL desperation!

  19. Bob P. on October 25th, 2008 11:44 pm

Biden and Obama are such whimps. They can’t take any questions with any real meat. Just want soft, mash potatoes questions. It’s about time someone in the media ask them questions. They are both waaaaaaaay overconfident. Pride comes before the fall. McCain/Palin will win.

  20. gerald ledlow on October 26th, 2008 12:42 am

awwww the poor cry baby dems and libs cant take the heat like they give sara palin only thing is she is more pro about it she dont cry and run home too mommy and refuse too answer any more questions.

  21. Todd on October 26th, 2008 1:09 am

Another example of the elite right-wing media bias. Check out the biased interview she did with McCain. This station is in the tank for McCain

  22. Mark Vanderloo on October 26th, 2008 3:10 am

Hey Obama supporter here and I think she had every right to ask these questions. I would want the same thing asked of McCain from any left leaning reporter as well.

Thankfully Biden did a great job of answering the questions.

  23. Dave B on October 26th, 2008 5:13 am

Elite right wing media? Did I miss something? ABC, CBS, NBC, MSNBC, CNN, PBS, NYT are all left wing. Mark: McCain has had to answer those questions on a daily basis but it was from the right prior to being nominated because they really didn’t like him. Many of the people that lectured on how the Republicans should nominate McCain so that he could reach out to moderates and Reagan democrats abandoned ship. You can’t “out Democrat” a Democrat and visa versa. If not for Palin McCain would be down 20 points and the conservatives wouldn’t bother voting for McCain without her.

  24. Alex on October 26th, 2008 9:10 am

Some people have been asking why Barack’s plan does not equal socialism. Hilzoy had a good post explaining why it is not socialism.

“socialism is a word that has a meaning. It means public control of the means of production. It does not mean taxing the top bracket at 39%. Likewise, “collective ownership” has a meaning, and it does not mean the situation that obtains when the government can repeal tax cuts for the top 5% of the population.”

  25. Petrushka on October 26th, 2008 1:11 pm

She looks like an idiot, as does anyone who in all seriousness thinks Obama/Biden are Marxists. When you characterize this ludicrous exchange as “tough questions” you simply indicate your fathoms-deep ignorance and embarrass yourself. The adults in the room know what the terms socialist and marxist mean. Apparently that level of knowledge excludes McCain’s most ardent supporters.

  26. GBrown on October 26th, 2008 10:39 pm

I’m all for tough questions but journalistic integrity and ethics obviously are qualities not in practice at this broadcast entity. These questions are not tough they are accusatory in tone, leading in nature and have no place in ethical journalism. My station would never allow this type of grandstanding from a reporter.
There are factions in this country that aren’t trying to bring the nation together and this reporter is one of them. It is the old divide and conquer strategy against their own.

  27. Philip9295 on October 26th, 2008 11:50 pm

Sarah Palin she’s the wonderful women, affter the interview with ABC,CBS,CNN …She’s not run home with her Mom and her Dad ,like Biden ,go away form the Fair Media ,Biden need to go back to CNN,CBS,NBC ,Washington post,Newyork Time,go there and cry…better place for him…Sorry OSama/Laden.I love it

  28. frank burns on October 27th, 2008 6:03 am

Of course Obama never worked for Acorn. Tough questions are one thing, lack of research and inimically false and misleading questions are another. This “reporter” needs to be sent back to journalism school.

  29. Wendi on October 27th, 2008 8:09 am

Thank heavens there are still journalists such as Barbara West who will actually do her job. We can no longer count on the main stream media to be fair in their reporting. The bias is so glaring and the fact that not one of the main stream media outlets are reporting this only proves how they do their best to manipulate you and I by either lying or concealing what is the truth.

  30. Lea on October 27th, 2008 8:09 am

“15) the glaring inacurracies of the “scientific” explanations of the collapse of WTT 1, 2, & 7, 16″

This has all been explained to everybody who is not crazy’s satisfaction. Good Lord.

I liked the interview, because it was fun to watch Biden Squirm, but the questions about marxism are so easily answered, why didn’t Biden just calmly answer them instead of screaming “Pass” on the questions he didn’t like. Also, I wish she’d followed up about the 800k Obama gave to Acorn.

  31. Rosa on October 27th, 2008 9:58 am

I’m a little confused? Does Biden’s arrorgance dwarf his ignorance or does his ignorance dwarf his arrogance? Either way, I hope the media wakes up now and realizes what they have done to themselves, it’s not to late to fix the mess they have created. I hope

  32. Il Duche on October 27th, 2008 10:19 pm

I must compliment WFTV on the employment of Barbara West. She has authenticated WFTV’s fascist bona fides. Please continue to broadcast Ms. West as she makes your station a beacon for all of us who fight to stifle free thought, racial tolerance, and Christian values.
