Polls Continue to Tighten
Posted on October 23, 2008
McCain gains ground in Gallup…only behind 4 points now at 50% to 46%. Battleground poll shows 44 to 42 in Obama’s favor. McCain gains a point in the IBD/TIPP poll making it a virtual tie at 44 to 43! It’s gonna be a nail biter again.
McCain has cut into Obama’s lead for a second day and is now just 1.1 points behind. The spread was 3.7 Wednesday and 6.0 Tuesday. The Republican is making headway with middle- and working- class voters, and has surged 10 points in two days among those earning between $30,000 and $75,000. He has also gone from an 11-point de?cit to a 9-point lead among Catholics.
On a related note…it looks like Murtha is likely to go down in flames in PA.

Look a little deeper at that IBD/TIPP poll.
Any poll that has McCain winning the 18-24 age group by 74-22 cannot and should not be trusted.
Nate Silver addresses that poll well.
But go ahead and believe the one or two polls that are more favorable to McCain if you would like.
Do not be fooled by Obama’s tax cut plan about cutting 95% of people’s tax, but raise top 5% of people’s tax. Sound very good, right? Do not be so naïve to believe you will get tax cut even though you are within 95% of people who earn less than 250K. Because nobody will like to pay tax (it is not patriotic at all to pay more tax). Do you know that those small business owners who created most of the jobs here? If you raise their taxes, they may not make enough profits to keep the business running, keep current employees working, and keep new jobs creating. Tax increasing will push more companies to ship jobs overseas because the cost will be much lower (look at Motor industry). So more jobs will be killed. If you do not have jobs, what good will Obama’s tax plan will do to you? On the other hand, do you think those business owners are willing to pay more tax? No!!! Do you know what they can simply do? Simple solution: passing those extra tax costs to the employees they hire, to the products they produce. For example, for those oil companies, they can simple increate gas price to cover the extra tax costs, so eventually each of us, American people, will be punished. Have you thought about this???
Why do you people keep regurgitating poll results from pollsters who have liberal leanings?
Polls are for the gullible and weak minded!
All polls are suspect, because all polltakers have political leanings.
We might forget that those who pay the pollsters commonly influence the scope and outcome of the poll.
Just by polling urban areas would give obama an edge wouldn’t you think?
Why are so many White voters voting for a socialist/Marxist black with a Muslim history?
One would have to assume that these Whites believe in a Black Liberation Theology and a socialist/Marxist ideology, if this is the case, then America is worse off then I thought. (ó¿ò)
Liberals and young females are easily manipulated, that accounts for the young vote most of which attend socialist/marxist indoctrination college centers.
The union workers are victims of mob strong arm tactics.
What about the 224,437,959 people that identify themselves as Christian’s in America? are they all staying home this year? (ò¿ó)

Obama will not win because he does not share the Christian values of the majority of black people in this country. I know white America thinks all blacks will vote for Obama because of his skin color but that is just not true. We as black Christians deplore his ardent stance on partial birth abortion and his great willingness to abort any child. We deplore his BLACK FIRST CHRISTIANITY learned at the feet of Jeremiah Wright which is wrong and very unscrupulous. What if McCain ran on a WHITES FIRST platform? He would be branded a racist and have no chance in the election. Despite ALL of the medias biased attempt to give Obama this election, black Christians will have the say on who our next president will be. Thank you
Reagan is cute!
Yes, Murtha going down in flames could help Pennsy go red, which would negate a blue Virginia! Keep on talking, Murtha! Maybe he and Joe Biden can take over that half hour of television time Obama bought and tell us how racist and stupid we are and what terrible criminals the military have become and how the world will come crashing down on the USA if Obama is elected and how many letters are there in “jobs!”
David has no clue what he’s talking about. He’s saying don’t be fooled by Obama, when in fact we should be talking about not getting fooled by mccain. McCain is the one being deceptive about his policies and his opponents policies. McCain knows people would like Obama’s plan so he reverses the logic and tells people that Obama will raise their taxes, but forgets to tell them that you need to make over $250,000 per year AFTER ALL EXPENSES. That means you must make $250,000 PROFIT AFTER you pay all employees and all expenses.
If an employer can no longer afford things, 99% of the time it’s an indication they are not making over $250,000 a year (AFTER) expenses. And if they don’t make that much, the rate does NOT increase. But if they do, it’s only a small increase designed not to hurt businesses. PLUS, what Joe the plumber forgets is for every expense you have, you can write that off on your taxes and not have to pay more taxes. If you buy a $30,000 truck, then you made $220,000, not $250,000 and so on. Also Joe seems to count up business expenses by counting income BEFORE expenses which is wrong, not to mention Joe isn’t really even a licensed plumber who makes under 40k a year. So Joe the plumber is a giant LIE and obviously meant to fool dummies.
Next, the 3% of businesses that make over 250k don’t generate most of the jobs. That is some more bull. Instead most jobs are generated by the tons of small businesses when you add it all together across the country. This is another distortion put out by McLIAR who should be called McNocchio because his nose keeps growing. But even if it were true, 3% isn’t going to cause the effects mccain is claiming. He just wants to win obviously.
If you want to worry about socialism, look at McCain’s plan to buy up all the failed mortgages. That’s a HORRIBLE idea and was slammed by senior republicans as being socialistic. LOOK IT UP! it’s true.
McCain WILL raise your taxes. Not directly. But as he loves to do, he left out the part about taxes your health care! This extra money goes to help get the $4 billion tax cut for the oil companies. Yes, McCain’s campaign manager has been one of the largest big oil executives in the world. They are trying to line up oil deals here.
This election is basically boiling down to an IQ test since there are so many, so easily fooled by mccain’s deceptions. That’s because they are either not smart, or refuse to check things out. It doesn’t take an einstein to figure out mccain is out to help 3% of the wealthiest people in American, while stabbing the other 97% and robbing them. This is all so mccain and the ultra rich do not have to pay anything. That’s right. He is giving breaks to the ultra rich so they don’t have to suffer a little and the rest have to really work harder.
Well moonie, if I recall correctly, Barry’s tax plan puts that $250K marker out there for FAMILIES earning that much; individuals, it’s $200K. And you don’t see too many BUSINESSES filing as FAMILIES and vice versa.
Tax the rich man for a higher percent, give it to the poor man who pays no tax; rich man says ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and closes down or moves out of the country. Now how’s the poor man who pays no taxes gonna get his paycheck, not to mention there’s now MORE poor men who just lost their jobs. The only solution is to either increase the rich man’s taxes MORE or – as is the case historically – lower the earnings brackets. So now the $250K family just became the $180K family. The cycle will repeat itself enough times that finally it’s the $75K family – and then we get another Republican President.
ROFL
MoonZip,
I applaud you for actually speaking some sense. I WAS a registered Republican until recently. I am now undecided. I watched every debate and WAS a McCain supporter years back. I have worked in the state government and seen them squander money and band aid things not thinking about the future throughout my entire state. All they do is make excuses as to why this can’t be fixed because of this and so on and so forth. This has made me ashamed of being a Republican seeing these actions with no real plan.
After watching the debates it sounds like Obama has an actual plan to get us back on track. Bring troops home stop spending 10 billion a month on other countries and put it into our struggling economy. Create alternate energy as well as create associated jobs within the states and put an extra $500 in my pocket come tax time. Knowing I am in the 62k tax bracket that is a pretty good incentive. Oh and I have been on the state government insurance and it is pretty good as a state employee. Obama offering the same kind of healthcare to the people that he and McCain get is awesome! He came from the bottom and rose to the top. Is that not the American dream in a nutshell! He has been there.
I really tried to side with McCain during the debates but I couldn’t because he really didn’t have an ideal outline of what he planned to do. All he did was try to bring dirt up, roll his eyes and argue like an aggravated teenager. That was very disappointing to me. Instead of pointing fingers how about we talk about the economy and how we are going to fix it. I couldn’t believe that this was a guy I was very impressed with 6 years ago. It upset me that this was the representative of the Republican Party. To top it off he only picked up Palin to bring the sex race to his side and capture Hilary’s fan base. The little he tried to explain didn’t sound very thought out or convincing. …Giving us a $5000 tax break for insurance. …Buying up the mortgages. I wonder who will pay for that in the long run. Everyone knows in order to do that it always means a tax increase to I wonder who. We all know who. Drilling off the coast of Florida. Yeah if you don’t live in Florida thats fine for you. For those who do.<Shaking my head. From what I have investigated myself. The drilling off of Florida’s coast will not make any impact for years to come. Lets Band-Aid by drilling instead of putting that money into the further development of alternate energy. Create new jobs and not just have short term goals but mid and long term goals.
It was hard for me to agree with Obama but he was right by saying we need change in Washington. We literally have Morons up there.
Moonzip I do agree I have seen several small business owners including close friends who write things off such as cars and boats. They slap a magnetic or Vinyl logo on it and say it is for advertising. It is very easy to bring yourself down into a lower tax bracket when you make purchases of that nature.
I really can’t get past the McCain/Palin attitude and the constant “Well look who he hangs with.” My whole life I was told look who he hangs with he will never be successful. It is a slap in the face when those who made those comments see that the company I kept had no influence on my decisions. I turned out fine. I think it was the New Testament that said Jesus was ridiculed by the company he kept too. Something about if a physician hung out with healthy people wouldn’t he be doing an injustice? Shouldn’t he be with the sick to make them healthy?
Judge not lest ye be judged. Isn’t that a Christian virtue? I thought that Republicans were predominately Christian?
Sorry about the religion there.
Furthermore I could not be associated in a party when I hear things like “Palin is hot that is why I am voting McCain.” Is that what we have come to? All I know is that Obama has me sold. Never voted Democrat but it looks like that’s where I am leaning this election.
If Our country elects Obama and allows the left leaning Dems to controll our govt inside and out, this country will have serious social and economic problems Obama already plans on spending an entry Trillon we dont have and When is this guy gonna wake up, payroll taxes, (FICA and Medicare ) are not income taxes, any 1st year college business student knows that, but Obama a maxist didnt take economics in college, In fact since he hasnt allowed his transcripts to be reviewed, we dont know what he took. Obama is corrupt, He is a liar, and if he is indeed elected because of the navive attitude of narrasistic Americans, he will screw up and he could be the first Balck man elected, and the first Black man to be impeached. They did more investigation into the background of Joe the Plummer than anything on barrack “I bought this election’ Obama.
Angie,
I don’t think you will get another Republican president after this — as this country will “change” forever. I don’t think anyone will want to pay for their own healthcare, or would want to work after they had the taste of extreme socialism. There’s no turning back. Nobody will say, “well, this didn’t work out, I think we need to reduce spending, reduce government size, and start taking responsibility.” Not going to happen.
LaTasha-
Thank you! I’m another non-Caucasian female, 18-30 group — voting for McCain.
LaTasha and Daisy are a perfect example of Americans with principles and values and their moral obligation to look beyond color and vote for what’s best for the country.
I applaud both of you!
Your both True Americans (ô¿ô)
Folks are finally wizing up to the fact that Obama’s gonna hurt their wallets-not just those nasty rich people that they so despise-Good.
