The timeline (6 mos.) lines up with the latest estimates of when Iran will have nuclear weapons. In any case, the ACLU fights for civil liberties through the American judicial system so this matter is not in their "jurisdiction," so to speak. I would assume they are as outraged as the rest of us. Also, I don't know if you read Dowd's entire piece but the comment you excerpted was only made in passing; the piece focused on religious discrimination, not taxes or "socialism." Your constitutional expert says that taxes be used to provide "for the general Welfare" which could certainly be interpreted to include aid programs for the less fortunate. Some constitutional scholars take that approach while others side with you. Regardless, Dowd was not discussing the issue of taxes and you are taking a small comment of hers on a complicated issue completely out of context.
