As a Europeans from Ireland I might point out that I would prefer to see McCain in the White House. Not all non-Americans blindly believe that the Obamessiah will bring the world to a new golden age. Far from it.

I think the attacks on Europeans in this post and in the comments above are excessive, though. If you want people to respect America – and more people do than you think – maybe you could return the favour.

By publishing their poll I am not giving the Guardian credibility. I give the Guardian about as much crediblity as I do the Daily Kos. I found that article at Little Green Footballs, where it had garnished some 3 pages of comments. I published that poll because, like it or not, I believe it does accurately represent what a lot of Europeans actually do think about America, and it gave me the chance to let Europe know what this particular American thinks about them.

I should think that “anybody with any brains” could have easily seen the reasoning behind this decision.

The “I am ashamed of my own country and worry about what the world thinks of us” crowd never realizes that those other countries don’t care a fig about what you think of them. Just ask them. Wring your hands over something worthwhile.
