WPa is a pretty amiable area. They’ll support and pony up to just about any cause (Whiskey Rebellion, anyone???), but they don’t take kindly to being pidgonholled or being proclaimed something totally abhorrent.

Its as bad as going into Braddock or the Pittsburgh Hill District, with U-Hauls full of fried chicken/watermelons, looking for votes. I was raised in Aliquippa, and, its as ethnic and diverse as any Philly area. And, its the closest community I’ve ever been apart of. Its not perfect, but they know they’re all in it together.

Its as tolerant and diverse an area as you can get. And, they’ve suffered heavily after the heavy industry left the area, and Harrisburg left them high/dry. But, it endures, and lives on. Its home, and, will always be.

There is certainly racism still about, but casting such a broadcloth is unwarranted, asinine, and a bone-headed move.

But, you come to expect that from ABSCAM Jack…

Are you offended at the notion that racist people still might be in America and that Murtha acknowledged that?

Here’s the problem with the above line of attack: it will eventually create a “radicalizing moment” for millions of white Americans. One day a lot of them will look into their bathroom mirrors, grin, and tell their reflections, “Yeah, I guess I really am a racist and, damn, it feels pretty good.”

What that day comes, all bets will then be off.
