If it’s infanticide, it’s infanticide: Obama a bigger abortion enthusiast than NARAL

Posted on October 14, 2008

Something that drives me nuts is the tendency of some “establishment” conservatives to back away from calling things by their proper name to avoid being accused of “outrageous rhetoric” by the Left.

One example of what I’m talking about is the fear some have in expressing in clear terms exactly what Obama advocated in opposing the Illinois Born-Alive Infant Protection Act. He advocated infanticide. Plain and simple.

Amanda Carpenter puts any doubts to rest: Obama’s Infanticide Lie

Newly discovered documents from the Illinois state archives prove Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has lied about his opposition as an Illinois state senator to legislation requiring health officials to provide care to babies who survived abortion.

Obama has repeatedly claimed he would have voted for Illinois’ version of the Born Alive Infant Protection Act (BAIPA) had it included language to protect abortion rights guaranteed by Roe v. Wade, as the federal version of the bill did, which sailed through the U.S. Senate 98-0. Contrary to what Obama has said, forgotten records from the Illinois Senate archives show Obama did vote against a BAIPA bill that included such a neutrality clause virtually identical to the federal bill.

“We have a smoking gun committee report,” said National Right to Life Committee Legislative Counsel Susan Muskett.

Muskett’s “smoking gun” is a 2003 Health and Human Services Committee report recorded by Republican committee staff. It documents a unanimous 10-0 vote by the 2003 Illinois Senate Health and Human Services Committee, which Obama chaired at the time, to amend BAIPA to include the exact same language that was added to the federal version to protect Roe v. Wade. The committee report also shows a subsequent “final action” vote to determine if the bill should advance out of committee or be killed. The bill was defeated 6-4. Chairman Obama voted in the majority.

This means that, in essence, Obama voted to successfully amend the bill in a way that Obama has said would have enabled him to support it—before he voted against it. It also puts Obama further to the left of NARAL Pro-Choice America. According to a statement released by the abortion-rights lobby in the run-up to the U.S. Senate’s BAIPA vote in 2002, “NARAL does not oppose passage of the Born Alive Infants Protection Act … floor debate served to clarify the bill’s intent and assure us that it is not targeted at Roe v. Wade or a woman’s right to choose.”

Read the entire article. It’s pretty obvious that Barack Obama has been lying again and again about this and it is impossible for anyone, even the most ardent Obamautomaton, to explain it all away. How can anyone trust this guy to run this country? I wouldn’t trust this guy running the ring toss at the county fair.

Barack Obama has told the Planned Parenthood Action Fund that the first thing he will sign as president will be the Freedom of Choice Act, which will sweep away limits on abortion — state and federal — including restrictions on government funding of abortion and laws protecting anti-abortion health care providers.

Barack Obama has condemned the Supreme Court’s Gonzales v. Carhart ruling, which affirmed the federal partial-birth abortion ban.

Barack Obama supports federal funding of abortion.

Barack Obama opposes the Hyde Amendment, which restricts use of taxpayer dollars for supporting abortion.

Barack Obama called pregnancy “punishment.”

Barack Obama believes that the right to have an abortion is a matter of equal rights for women.

Barack Obama wants to stop federal funding to crisis-pregnancy centers.

Barack Obama does not support the Pregnant Women Support Act, a project of Democrats for Life, meant to reduce abortions by strengthening the social safety net. This is important because it exposes as a lie a major talking point employed by those who argue that pro-lifers can support Obama. It shows much of the left’s patronizing rhetoric to be nothing but rank deceit. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi — a Catholic who developed her own theology to justify her abortion support — and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have not allowed this important act to even come to a vote.

I have added a link to your post from BlogWatch: Main Stream Media Vetting Candidates?

There should be no doubt about Obama position on this issue.

The Illinois legislation read, “A live child born as a result of an abortion shall be fully recognized as a human person and accorded immediate protection under the law.” The Born Alive Infant Protections Act read, “Nothing in this section shall be construed to affirm, deny, expand, or contract any legal status or legal right applicable to any member of the species homo sapiens at any point prior to being ‘born alive’ as defined in this section.” [SB 1082, Held in Health and Human Services, 3/13/03; Session Sine Die, 1/11/05; BAIPA, Public Law 107-207]

It’s simple math. Well, maybe slightly more complex algebra…

Pro-choice, strictly by definition but as applied to the subject of abortion, is based on the freedom to choose from different options (there is no “choice” if there is only one item to pick from):
    1. The choice to terminate a pregnancy.
    2. The choice to carry a pregnancy to term (and possibly even keep the child).

Obama supports “pro-choice” and wants to remove restrictions on abortion AND provide federal monies to perform them. BUT… he also wants to do eliminate programs that would facilitate a woman’s CHOICE of life. By eliminating that safety net for those mothers who do NOT choose abortion, Obama is infringing upon the right to actually CHOOSE. Again, there is no choice if the only option is abortion.

    1 + 1 = …… 3?

By abrogating a woman’s choice for LIFE and offering only a “choice” for abortion, his position is not that of “pro-choice” but of “pro-abortion.”

Perhaps math is above his pay grade as well?
