First Grade Field Trip to Teacher’s Gay Wedding
Posted on October 13, 2008
Here is your outrage of the day. Forget what the parents think, and forget whether a publicly funded school would sponsor taking children to a heterosexual wedding of their teacher. This is pure indoctrination of “tolerance”….a “tolerance” that should be left up to parents to teach or not. A publicly funded school has no right to do this, especially to children so young. Of course, we are supposed to forget all of that. Outrageous! Don’t homosexual couples understand that they hurt their own cause when they pull stunts like this? Haven’t they ever learned what the word backfire means?
Update: Hey look! No reason to look to Canada, parents in Massachusetts already have no rights to opt their children out of homosexual indoctrination. They are already jailing parents there for standing against the indoctrination.
Via Protect Marriage:
In the same week that the No on 8 campaign launched an ad that labeled as “lies” claims that same-sex marriage would be taught in schools to young children, a first grade class took a school-sponsored trip to a gay wedding. Eighteen first graders traveled to San Francisco City Hall Friday for the wedding of their teacher and her lesbian partner, The San Francisco Chronicle reported. The school sponsored the trip for the students, ages 5 and 6, taking them away from their studies for the same-sex wedding. According to the Yes on 8 campaign, the public school field trip demonstrates that the California Supreme Court’s decision to legalize same-sex marriage has real consequences.
“Taking children out of school for a same-sex wedding is not customary education. This is promoting same-sex marriage and indoctrinating young kids,” said Yes on 8—ProtectMarriage.com Campaign Co-Manager Frank Schubert. “I doubt the school has ever taken kids on a field trip to a traditional wedding,” Schubert said.
When asked by the Yes on 8 campaign, The San Francisco Chronicle reporter said she did not know if the school had ever sponsored a field trip for students to a traditional wedding. Telling the Chronicle that the field trip was “a teachable moment,” the school’s principal believes it is perfectly appropriate for first graders to attend a same-sex wedding. Officials in other school districts disagree.
“Prop. 8 protects our children from being taught in public schools that ’same-sex marriage’ is the same as traditional marriage,” said Santa Ana Unified School District board member Rosemarie “Rosie” Avila. “We should not accept a court decision that results in public schools teaching our kids that gay marriage is okay. That is an issue for parents to discuss with their children according to their own values and beliefs. It shouldn’t be forced on us against our will,” Avila added.
The lesbian teacher’s wedding was officiated by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom. Newsom is featured in a Yes on 8 television ad, released last week, in which he arrogantly declares of same-sex marriage: “The door’s wide open now. It’s gonna happen, whether you like it or not.”
The Yes on 8 campaign’s ads explain that if the voters do not overturn the California Supreme Court’s same-sex marriage ruling, teachers will be required to teach young children that there is no difference between gay marriage and traditional marriage. “It’s totally unreasonable that a first grade field trip would be to a same-sex wedding,” said Chip White, Press Secretary for Yes on 8. “This is overt indoctrination of children who are too young to understand it.” The field trip underscores the Yes on 8 campaign’s message that unless Prop. 8 passes, children will be taught about same-sex marriage in public schools. “Not only can it happen, it has already happened,” White said.
The fact that the parents of these particular children didn’t mind, makes no difference in the precedent this sets. I guess, since gay couples can’t have children of their own to brainwash, they think they have a right to brainwash ours. This stunt was absolutely transparent. The wedding could have been done on a weekend and proper invitations sent to parents of the school children. This would have never happened for a teacher’s heterosexual marriage. This was all about forcing “special rights” for gays and to indoctrinate children. This was step one. In this particular incident parents could excuse their child from part or all of the “instruction” despite it being an inappropriate use of money and educational resources in the first place. However, step two can’t be far behind. Step two would make it a hate crime to remove your child from a tolerance indoctrination class. It already happens in Canada, the model that liberals look to in their molding of America’s future.

thats horrible. i seriously regret my decision to live in the US just because this reverse persecution is going on…
when did the NORMAL become abnormal?
same sex marriages are so abnormal and yet how is it that people are blatantly supporting this and yet belittling people who support the REAL marriage(man/woman)
Ugh!!!
Fact: school kids of any age should not be removed from class to attend a wedding. Period.
Fact: Parents should be responsible for deciding when to talk to their kids – especially young children – about sex and sexuality. School teachers should stick to teaching math, science, geography, etc., and leave personal sexual preference at home.
Anyone who says otherwise has an agenda they are trying to push.
It’s just a tad ironic that these kids attend a charter school – that conservative institution designed to siphon tax revenues away from public school and into Christian schools.
No conservative would raise a peep if a Christian charter school took its kids on a field trip to attend a church-oriented debate. “That’s what charter schools are for!”
I now you guys like having things both ways, but it really shouldn’t work that way.
Either you support the right for charter schools to do what they please within the law – or you don’t.
All of these children attended with their parents permission. Who are you to tell the parents of these children that they don’t have the right to allow their children to attend an event!
I would like to challenge the reading impaired public school educated flunkie who posted that this was a charter school. It clearly states in the article that it is a PUBLIC school. But then you probably have attended too many gay weddings to actually take the time to learn how to read. Futhermore, if it is a “right” to attend these events, as “Steve” so mournfully points out, does that right extend to teachers who wish to take their students to a church service (with the parents permission, of course)?…didn’t think so
Apparently, what I said was too poignant for this website. It was quickly removed. I likened an intolerance to teach kids about same-sex marriage to an intolerance to teach kids that interracial marriage is okay. Apparently, that hit a nerve. It puts the issue into perspective far too clearly for this ideological page.
Rather than reading a slanted extract of the news, how about getting the real story? Little things won’t get left out.
Things like the trip being proposed and developed by some of the students’ parents, not the teacher? Things like parents being required to sign permission slips that clearly explained the purpose of the trip and all but two of the students got permission? But I guess it wouldn’t be as inflammatory with all the information.

The school in question is a charter school. See their site at http://www.creativeartscharter.org/
They not only encourage, but require, parental involvement. For the first grade, the curriculum includes this: “Concepts of cultural difference and acceptance of those differences are highlighted for each child in the classroom and families are invited to come in and share their personal traditions.”
I’m sure the governance structure in place a the school is well able to handle any concerns on the part of parents — without the interference of outsiders.
By the way gay people can and do have children of their own.. I agree that the happy couple could and should have sent invitations out and had the wedding on a weekend. Did the teacher get paid for this day? very peculiar..
It isn’t peculiar when you figure out it was a stunt and indoctrination attempt. It was a publicity stunt, and I have to wonder how long it will take the homosexual movement to figure out that crap like this backfires against their cause every time.
I am so glad that I don’t live around such fruitloops as these…and taking children on a field trip? What objectives were taught? This world is getting sicker every day. I hope that those 2 women enjoy this life because their eternal life is going to be HOT.
Proposition 8 would write bigoted religious dogma into the California Constitution.
This idea of gay rights is a misnomer. It’s too bad people are accepting this perversion of reality.
Here is a litmus test for when to apply rights. You will not meet a formerly Black man. You can however meet a formerly gay man. There are treatment programs which can return a gay man to a normal heterosexual life.
Put a stop to the erosion of morality by voting yes on proposition 8.
It is shameful that you would repeat a series of lies like this. Here are some undisputed facts.
Yes, as it was stated, this was a charter school with far more parental control.
Second, the idea to meet the teacher came from one of the parents not from the school.
Third, every single student who went did so with the signed permission of their parents. So it was the parents, not the school who sent them.
Fourth, parents accompanied their children to City hall.
Fifth, no student attended the wedding as reported. They waited outside to greet their teacher AFTER her wedding.
Since this was done with parental permission exactly how does this undermine parental control. The reall opponents of parental control are the people doing the attacking since this was a parental project from start to finish. Or are you saying parents shouldn’t have the right to teach their values to their kids? Are you saying parents don’t have the right to remove their children, for one hour, from the school?
Shouldn’t you verify the facts before you report how “outraged” you are. My clue that it was lie was when I saw the Prop 8 site didn’t mention the school. Then I found the article they based their claims on and saw that had deleted a lot of facts particularly that this was done with parental permission. But it sure lets you exhibit your antigay views even if the story is filled with falsehoods.
Tolerance is not the answer here and why should anyone be forced to tolerate immoral behavior? We decide what is acceptible or what is moral. This is BS and people should be mad. This is nothing less than brain washing children and forcing their behavior on them and making taxpayers pay for the trip! It is not right, it is not normal and it is not okay to bring this in the classroom. The liberals are out of control. This teacher/principal should be fired. Tax payers pay their salaries and this is unacceptible.
