Is McCain Committing Political Suicide With His Nice Guy Attitude?
Posted on October 11, 2008
My father just called and asked me what I thought about McCain stating Obama would make a good president, and whether I thought this was political suicide. I didn’t know exactly what he was talking about because I was on the road all day, not plugged into politics like I usually am. I went on auto-defense and assumed McCain did something to simply calm down some rowdy person at a townhall. My wife blurted out that she thought McCain sounded like a _ussy. So, now I’ve caught up, and definitely think McCain is messing up here. Is he doing the right thing? Perhaps his heart is in the right place, but he should really slow down and listen to his supporters. Obama is cut-throat, and will not play this game nicely. He has opened himself up on this one, and looks like he only wants to play soft ball.

Ya can’t help but wonder, does McCain really want to win? Knocking the Dems on their failed policies is not ‘dirty politics’, it’s just the truth.

In a word to answer the title of your column…”YES!”
His graciousness towards John Lewis has blown up, as expected. What a surprise.
Conservatives disagree with liberals. Liberals despise conservatives. They hate them just for existing. In this sense, liberals are like Palestinians. They want to destroy the opposition and blow it up by any means necessary.
Until McCain realizes who is friends are, and stops trying to reach out to those who hate him, he will sink. He has days left to figure this out.
Respectfully,

I’ve finally figured out why John McCain does what he does. There is a direct link between what the NY Times and the Washington Post report and what’s John McCain’s campaign strategy. Don’t believe me?
For example, the press reports John McCain is unfairly smearing Obama. John McCain gets soft. The press reports McCain’s crowds are hateful. He tells them to calm down and be respectful. The press reports John McCain shouldn’t talk about Obama’s shady connections. He changes the subject.
If you were to design a flow chart of McCain’s message and the press’s reporting on that message. You’d see a direct correlation of one to the other. That being McCain’s message tends to piggy back on what the media thinks of his message. The same media who are trying to destroy him.
So you see, McCain tailors his message to what, the very same press that hates him and wants him to loose, wants.
If the press was reporting on how respectful a campaign McCain was running you’d know he was loosing.
It’s always fascinated to me when the very same people who are against John McCain and want him to loose give him advise as if they are looking out for his best interest.
If the things he’s doing are so bad for his chances of winning, and will hurt him come election day. Why would they tell him? Shouldn’t they just shut up and let him self destruct?
That’s the question you need to ask.
YES. I sent the following as an email to McCain via the GOP website:

Dear Senator McCain,
I will vote for you; I want you to win. But, YOU need to do something between now and election day: F I G H T.
WHEN I READ: “Mark Salter, McCain’s long-serving chief of staff, is understood to have told campaign insiders that he would prefer his boss, a former Vietnam prisoner of war, to suffer an “honourable defeat” rather than conduct a campaign that would be out of character – and likely to lose him the election.”, I AM SHOCKED.
“Defeat” is the WRONG WORD.
SURRENDER is what Salter is advising.
THERE IS NO HONOR IN SURRENDER.
Even the notion that you could be doing this to “salvage your leverage in the Senate” is a joke – should Obama win, you are likely to be one of the first to be ejected – whether by Arizona voters or Obama’s thugs.
Should you choose the path described above, you will be surrendering my country to Obama’s “American” [sic] vision of Socialist* policies – for this I will not forgive you or your political party.
FIGHT, you old bastard!

* I grew up visiting distant relatives behind the Iron Curtain almost every year, and I wish to point out to you that you do not have to wait until flags with hammers and sickles are hanging outside every house before you say a country has surrendered to socialism. YOUR election is a matter of freedom versus tyranny, Senator. PLEASE RUN YOUR CAMPAIGN AS IF YOU UNDERSTOOD THIS.
