Obama States Bush Has Made Us “More Safe”

From one of the latter questions during the debate,

Brokaw: How can we apply pressure to Russia for humanitarian issues in an effective manner without starting another Cold War?

asked of John McCain first, Barack Obama had this to say (slight snark from Brokow included)

Brokaw: Sen. Obama? We’re winding down, so if we can keep track of the time

Obama: And you knew that if the Russians themselves were trying to obtain some of these territories or push back against Georgia, that that was not a stable situation. So part of the job of the next commander-in-chief, in keeping all of you safe, is making sure that we can see some of the 21st Century challenges and anticipate them before they happen.

We haven’t been doing enough of that. We tend to be reactive. That’s what we’ve been doing over the last eight years and that has actually made us more safe. That’s part of what happened in Afghanistan, where we rushed into Iraq and Sen. McCain and President Bush suggested that it wasn’t that important to catch bin Laden right now and that we could muddle through, and that has cost us dearly.

That’s good to know that, eh? Barack forgets his Democratic defeatocratic talking points for a moment, and tells the truth.

I have included the preceding paragraph for context and to show what a buffoon Obama is on national security. He thinks we need to anticipate challenges before they happen, and do something about them. Um, isn’t that what we did in Iraq?

PS: A few DUmmies were unhappy that Brokaw attempted to make Obama stick with the rules that Barry and McCain agreed upon.

I read it as he stuck his foot in his mouth so far that doctors could probably surgically remove it from his anal sphincter. By NOT doing what Barry would do – anticipating rather than reacting – we have been MORE SAFE. And if reacting and keeping ourselves MORE SAFE has cost us dearly, just how much would it have cost us to follow BARRY’S plan?

Is that just double talk or plain good old-fashioned stupidity trying to come off as articulate? Or is he having a blonde moment?

Wait… is “articulate” one of those racial words I’m not supposed to use?

Yeah, I viewed it as a slam on Iraq and Afghanistan, that somehow, waiting for the Russians to invade Georgia is better than pre-emptively doing something. That the invasion of Iraq has made us LESS safe than waiting for Saddam to do something.

Actually I think Obama waa attacking the Bush years as Reactive and not Proactive. Obama claims he will be proactive. Does this mean he will invade nations we think have WMD like Iraq??

You know better than that, Obama thinks his very presence in a room will make hostile leaders melt like butter.

If Obama can actually protect us from Islam and its terrorism, why is Obama supported by every Islamic terrorist organization or state?

    !

Dennis, you are probably correct in that Barry was trying to attack Bush, but, yup, he messed up his talking points.

But, we can only attack those countries that are not threats to us preemptively.

I’m glad to see I wasn’t the only one who noticed Obama’s incoherent rambling during that answer.

I hope someone posts the video online. To me, it was obvious from his voice and his gaffe that he realized he had blundered. He had been describing as “reactive” what he had always criticized as an unwise, even stupid, strategy for combatting the terrorist threat — including, of course, the invasion of Iraq. The strategy has obviously been anticipatory, not reactive.

I think that’s why he said “actually made us more safe.” His mind was spinning rapidly at that point, as he tried to figure out how to get out of the corner he was painting himself into.

Check at about 1:18 at this link: http://www.hulu.com/watch/38186/msnbc-decision-08-full-debate-mccain-and-obama-town-hall

Can’t find anything broken down. May try to rip the video, cut, and upload to youtube later. My regular laptop is in for a new motherboard, old one takes a long, long time.
