The debate — a quick PoliViews.com tour

Posted on October 2, 2008

Poliviews.com is a fantastic little tool for taking the pulse of left vs. right commentary in under 30 seconds and the best such tool that I know of on the web. So moments after the vice-presidential debate I find the following:

From the Left:

1. From Daily Kos: Sarah Palin won! Actually, she survived, since she had no “deer in headlight” moments.

2. Eschaton: “Biden say anything stupid yet?”

3. Sullivan: “Biden didn’t put the boot in; he didn’t come off as sexist; he didn’t make any obvious gaffes.”

4. Huffington Post: “Bless her heart, Sarah “drill, baby, drill” Palin strove mightily to hit a gusher tonight against Joe Biden, but came up empty. No, her performance was not the disaster that some in the GOP have been fearing.”

5. Crooks and Liars: “Tonight’s debate between Sen. Joe Biden and Gov. Sarah “Main Street, Wasilla” Palin yielded few fireworks, but Biden did a good job of keeping the focus where it should be — on John McCain”

Frankly I’m surprised at the lack of enthusiasm and, shall we say, activism on the left side of the blogosphere. I’ll not compile a similar list from the right side of the blogosphere, because you either already know what you think about the debate or can visit PoliViews.com for yourself.

Palin gave a very concerning response to Darfur indeed. She is listening to the neo-cons!!!!

America can’t be policeman to the world. Now there are places where we might need to act like Venezuela, Iran, etc.

Those are places where our national interests are at stake.

But Darfur? As tragic as that situation is there are no American interests at state and therefore not even one of our soldiers should be asked to fight and possibly die there.

Liberals love to say how much money Iraq is costing us. Well, yeah, wars and occupations are expensive though sometimes necessary. But how much more expensive will it be if we are going to be the world’s policeman!!!

Our military is for protecting our national interests. It is not right for us to ask our soldiers for anything more than that. And we simply can’t afford it either.
