Victory! Democrats Surrender on Blocking Drilling

Posted on September 23, 2008

Dems will give up the the moratorium on off-shore drilling. Starting on October 1, states will have no federal restrictions on oil production! They have surrendered! You can definitely thank the Republicans for staging protests and bringing the issue to the national spotlight!

Democrats have decided to allow a quarter-century ban on drilling for oil off the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to expire next week, conceding defeat in an months-long battle with the White House and Republicans set off by $4 a gallon gasoline prices this summer.
Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey, D-Wis., told reporters Tuesday that a provision continuing the moratorium will be dropped this year from a stopgap spending bill to keep the government running after Congress recesses for the election.
Republicans have made lifting the ban a key campaign issue after gasoline prices spiked this summer and public opinion turned in favor of more drilling. President Bush lifted an executive ban on offshore drilling in July.
“If true, this capitulation by Democrats following months of Republican pressure is a big victory for Americans struggling with record gasoline prices,” said House GOP leader John Boehner of Ohio.

Democrats tried to pass a poison pill bill first, so you’ve gotta give them credit for at least trying to screw us all. However, Republicans stuck to their guns on this one, and come out shining in the end. This is a nice period on the end of the sentence for the Democrat controlled 110th Congress, aptly labeled the “do nothing” Congress. It’s amazing what can happen when Republicans grow a pair.

When will I see things reflect at the pump?

Well said. Now we need some legislation relaxing the environmental restrictions. I’ve read that a lot of the environmental groups are all set with a deluge of lawsuits to prevent all manner of energy production.

    Best regards,

Heck, I would just like to see gas reflected at the pumps. I went to a friends house way out to watch the game last night, and I had to go to 4 gas stations before finding one with actual gas. And that was at the point of having to turn around and go home if I didn’t get any.

    Drill baby drill!

I think they made a deal with congress to let the oil ban expire, “Pass the bailout bill and we won’t throw you under the bus”. Everyone knows they were the cause of this mess in the first place. Bush addressed congress 17 times, and they did nothing! Now they “don’t know what to do” and “we told everyone there was a problem” which one is it? Did you hear this? I didn’t. Plus, Obama, the media, and all the feminist’s have some mental health issues they have to deal with for the next 4 years, and I hope everyone out there will pray for them to get through this hard time.

WOW! The price of gas is now going to drop overnight. No? In the next few months? No? A year from now? No? How soon and how much is the price of gas going to drop? I know it will be real soon now that all this drilling can begin offshore. No way there was any oil to be found in all those existing leases the Dems were at first insisting that the oil companies drill.

Drill baby drill-to hell with alternative sources until we have drained every drop from the earth.

10 years and gas will go down by 10 cents. Woot!

I also like to see all government elected officials start cutting back on the use of gas. And i like to see a big cut in the salary for all elected officials. Bring the elected officials down to the Middle class salary of no more the $50 to $60 thousand a year instead of what they make now $162,100 year. Only then will you see change!
