You know something, Kathy, I’m a liberal who is pretty tired of being called an idiot or mentally ill. If you’ve got an argument, why don’t you back it up with facts instead of sweeping generalizations meant to insult people? This is a democracy, which means our future is tied to the best thoughts that we, as a nation together, can reach. Disrespecting, even hating, half of America is not a good path forward.

I’m a British Tory of the Margaret Thatcher tendency and looking at this stuff from the US is really really strange. The polarization between the parties is just so extreme it’s not normal at all. The two groups have retreated into mental bunkers and just cannot see anything outside their world views. In the UK things are much more fluid even in places which are typically extremist for one party or the other. People listen to arguments and can change their minds and they expect leaders to have a minimum standard of knowledge. Someone like Palin wouldn’t last 15 seconds in that environment.

To hear people defend Palin when she is so obviously not up to the job is bizarre. Put it like this, if you’re going to have a war with the rest of the world, you do at least want leaders who are as bright as the bad guys. Home spun philosophy, prayer, a fiesty temperament and good hair isn’t going to swing it with Putin. They must be laughing themselves silly.

As far as I know, most levels of government prohibit the use of official tools (like email) for unofficial or partisan purposes. That is, for example, why during the Clinton years Gore would leave the OEB to go to the DNC HQ to make fundraising phone calls.

The latest reports say none of the uncovered (purloined) email messages of Sarah Palin had any content relating to official government business.

Sounds as if she was following good government principals.

So, fjfjdvdv, explain what exactly is wrong with using a personal account? Is government sacred or something?

BTW, 1. the hacker found nothing wrong, and 2. do you approve of what the hacker did? If that was snail mail, the person would be looking at a minimum 5 years in federal jail. I haven’t seen many of you liberal “Bush is desecrating the Constitution” folks having an issue with this violation of privacy, not to mention the law.

Ditto the above: I thought it was my imagination, but Ms. Palin’s presence is shrinking from the Internet. Google features sparse but negative posts. Yahoo is more of the same. Here’s a woman, I’ve heard described as a combination of the girl next-door, Ms. Right, and “the one that got away,” who happens to have oil, in the run-up to a presidential election and, we’re seeing a handful of outdated rants. It’s been reported the Obama campaign is top-heavy with ex-Clinton staffers. Underestimate these Bolsheviks at your own peril; they spell trouble. On a serious note, I am truly frightened about the sharp reduction in our freedom of speech should Obama be elected. He is someone who is unwilling to admit being mistaken and has displayed an alarming willingness to encourage and do anything to intimidate and/or silence his detractors and critics.

When you combine his propensity to label any opponent as racist, unenlightened, and inhumane with the unihibited enthusiasm of his supporters to be aggressive and “get in the face” of those who don’t pledge allegience to Obama we are entering some dangerous territory. Obama’s demand that there be mandatory civil service and a domestic national security corps opens the door to a neighborhood watch infrastructure like that found in Cuba and other authoritarian states. The declaration of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid that the “Fairness Doctrine” will be reimposed in the next session of Congress is another step in the progressive movement’s war on free speech.

We have a sitting US Senator who actively encourages his followers to silence the opposition. Teams of lawyers and activists have tried to use the Department of Justice, the IRS and the FEC to intimidate Republicans and even a group of religious groups protesting against Iran but who had retained their invitation to Sarah Palin to speak at their rally after Hillary Clinton withdrew. His campaign organization rallies supporters to shutdown talk radio shows that have the temerity to interview researchers and authors looking into Obama’s background.
Yet, the MSM is silent about this politically sanctioned attack on free speech because of their desire to see Republicans made a permanent minority party.

This is serious stuff – changes that will affect us all. Remember that when you step into the voting booth in November.

Paul Simon’s hit single “Kodachrome” begins “When I think back on all the CRAP I learned in high school, it’s a wonder I can think at all…” I am a San Francisco resident, and think for myself despite being a product of San Francisco’s public school system. Although we are not contemporaries, Naomi Wolf is — along with globalist SCOTUS Justice Stephen Breyer and Carol Channing — an alumnus of elite Lowell High School, which is S.F. high schools’ equivalent of an Ivy League college. As a proud graduate of another S.F. high school, it gives me a smile every time she goes off the rails into madness.

Come to think of it, “off the rails” is her natural habitat; only in rare occasions does she wander ON track.
