Alaska Independence Party And Palin, Part Deux
Posted on September 2, 2008
So the Nutroots wants to tell us that Obama’s long, long, long term associations with people such as convicted slum lord felon Tony Rezko, racist American haters such as Jeremiah Wright and Father Phlegar, domestic terrorist William Ayers, etc and so on, do not matter. Associations that Obama has thrown under the bus (sort of), so, they are old news, and we should move on from those distractions. But, the Nutroots is making big hay over Palin’s AIP links. What are they?
Lynette Clark, the chairman of the AIP, tells ABC News that Palin and her husband Todd were members in 1994, even attending the 1994 statewide convention in Wasilla. Clark was AIP secretary at the time.
Clark says that Palin left the party and became a Republican in 1996, when she first ran for mayor of Wasilla.
In other words, Palin joined a popular group in a small community, a popular group in Alaska, then moved on. And, sure, she has spoken to the group since. Big woop. A group that is
“We are a state’s rights party,” says Clark, a self-employed goldminer. The AIP has “a plank that challenges the legality of the Alaskan statehood vote as illegal and in violation of United Nations charter and international law.”
Some call for secession, some for being a commonwealth. A big part of their platform is States Rights. I can think of one other document that calls for States Rights right off the top of my head.
But, keep digging, Dems. Anything to avoid a discussion on the dangerous and destructive policies of Obama, eh?
PS (I forgot to hit save the update this morning): let’s not forget the secessionist leanings and calls from unhinged PEST Kerry voters after the 2004 election. Ones who love the F*ck The South screed. The Washington Times and Slate noticed the progressives wanting to separate Blue States from Red States. Remember these?

They were all done by Lefties after they lost in 2004 (they had nothing better to do while lying in bed for days, acting like children.)
But, wait! The Daily Kos, where this whole discussion started, was discussing secession, too!
Of course, it was always just talk, like their promises to leave the USA if Bush won.

hmmm, another America hater.
We are going to elect, as VP to an old man, someone who wanted to secede from the country? I dont think so….
And why is Obama’s long term with racist religious leaders, unrepentant domestic terrorists, and other shady characters less bad than Palin’s former association with Alaska secessionists? Palin comes out ahead on that issue.
I see your point, but the real scandal to me regards all these bank failures. Not to mention neither the dems or GOP talk about deflation or all these bank failures, had another one today in GA, Dang, That’s makes 10. Yep Paulin will back fire for McCain, but my pocket is more important
You’re joking right? Here you’ve been questioning the patriotism of Obama all this time, and now that we have a candidate for the vice presidency that was a member of a political party that hates America you defend her? Hahaha. You know if these tables were turned and Palin was a democratic VP candidate you people would be all over this.
Twist things all you want Bjorn, we can see through it. Wanting the power and rights to have a vote on secession is not the same as actually wanting to do it. Furthermore, others of that party only wanted to become a commonwealth. We have no idea which of these ideas Palin wanted. Regardless, she quit 12 years ago! Obama sat in the pews of his hate God damn America church for 20 years and only quit after enoroumous political pressure! He knowingly made a deep friendship with a domestic terrorist that openly hates America and bombed the Pentagon. He remains friends to this day with that unrepentant terrorist. You want to debate who really hates America?
So, Palin joined a group, but left it afer a while because it was a little extreme, but her association with it should be at issue now – But Obama stuck around for 20 years of “God Damn Amerikkka” and it should not be an issue? Of course, how silly of me not to see this logic.
Jay, their most important issue, as highlighted on their homepage is to end association with the United States. Look at their FAQ and all of their pages and they say one terrible thing after another about the US, including it’s declining economy and influence. It also uses international law and the United Nations Charter as its rationale, which I know conservatives are just in love with. Please keep defending this, you guys are looking like clowns.
The second thing is, all your arguments about the tenuousness of Palin’s association with the party and her mindset can also be used (and have been) to defend Obama. But but you can’t bring your minds to pass that partisan wall and see the similiarities. Furthermore, she was a member of the party. It’s not like her husband was a member and is guilty by association, she actually was a member. Of an anti-american party.
If you claim to be patriotic and aren’t just partisan, you would take issue with her Alaska first, zamerica never attitude. Even when asked about the vice presidency she said it depended on what it would do for Alaska. Last I checked…there are 50 states and the VP represents all of them.
James that’s funny. I have been to numerous “racist” white churches before. Especially if “racism” is predicated on expressing dissatisfaction with the actions of people who aren’t white. Funny thing is…at those churches there were never any people in attendance who weren’t white. Funny how people can label Jeremiah Wright racist and unpatriotic from soundbites targetted at such baseless arguments. Yet know absolutely nothing about the man. A marine who served two combat missions for this country and aided in saving the life of a US PRESIDENT…who pastors a congregation that is part of a religious body that is both black and white parishoners…yet he is racist and unpatriotic. You folks are the real nuts.
The back and forth banter on here is disturbing, yet strangely amusing to read. I doubt that anyone who invests years of their lives as a public servant or community activist “hates” America.
Have you forgotten that the people who hate America hijacked and crashed planes on American soil 7 years ago? I don’t recall Palin or Obama ever being accused of doing that.
James and Bjorn, exactly what have you 2 done for this country other than spew pointless rhetorical vomit that does nothing to advance a true political debate in this country?
AJ: I served in the United States Marines for five years. How’s that.
AJ, you got pwned.
she never moved on. she’s still vocaly supportive of the case. 2006 slogan: “alaska first”.
“Jay, their most important issue, as highlighted on their homepage is to end association with the United States.”
Do you think it’s possible that she left BECAUSE of this stance as opposed to in spite of it? But let’s avoid the hard questions, shall we. It’s much easier to assume that her true motivations are nefarious, correct?
“2006 slogan: “alaska first”.”
MM, let’s be realistic here. She was running for Governor in 2006, of course she’d make statements like that. I want you to name a single sitting Governor or candidate who puts another state ahead of their own. I guarantee you that any candidate that FAILED to put their own state ahead of any or all others would not be elected, and any Governor who did the same would not be re-elected.
The reason this is an issue is that Palin is an unknown. She has not been vetted, and so her associations, past and present, are of interest. What is her association with the AIP? Does she believe in Alaskan independence? These are legitimate questions.
“The McCain campaign released a copy of Palin’s Republican voter registration card to rebut a report in The New York Times that Palin had been a member of the Alaska Independence Party, which wants the state to vote on seceding from the United States, for two years in the 1990s.
“The allegations that Gov. Palin was a member of (the) Alaska Independence Party are false. She’s never been a member of the Alaska Independence Party,” said McCain spokesman Brian Rogers.”

The way I look at it is that Hussein was associating with God Damn America Wright and Blow Up America Ayers for a much longer time and also long after Sarah Palin had anything to do with the Alaska Independence Party.
Wright is a vicious racist bigot – one of the worst in the nation, end of story. There’s no excusing the ignorant racist garbage he spews.
Palin’s husband was a member of the un-American Alaska Independence Party until 2002. He is currently “undeclared.”

Thanks for the immature rant. On the whole, you seem to have a temperamental affinity with the Alaska Independence folks. Bet this was the first time you have realized that there is a connection between those who spend their time hating on their fellow Americans and traitorousness. Patriotism indeed.
“In other words, Palin joined a popular group in a small community, a popular group in Alaska…”
Just like David Duke and Robert Byrd joined similar local groups in Louisiana and West Virginia respectively.
A 5 yr USMC hitch?
Do tell us more about how he/she/it pwnd ud while I call Bravo Sierra on it.
Sarah Palin was NEVER a member of the Independence Party. The New York Times has confirmed their source was wrong. They should have checked the source before they printed the story.
What is amusingly ironic is that Mccain’s platform is “Country Fisrt”. The AIP platform is “Alaska First”. Their goal is succession, and their platform is to allow the states’ citizens to vote on the status of Alaska. Her husband was a member from 1995-2002. The Chair of the AIP claimed Palin was a member of the group. She’s given teleconference speeches at their conventions. Just because she is registered Republican does not mean she is not sympathetic to their cause (eg. Joe Lieberman). Republicans are blind to their hypocrisy becasue of their “cultish” zealot worldview.
It’s ironic that McCain’s new slogan is “Country First,” and the AIP’s is “Alaska First.” Do you think that Governor Sarah might’ve helped out the ad wizards that came up with it?
God help us all.
