Obama Responds to News of Bristol Palin’s Pregnancy

Posted on September 1, 2008

For the first time ever Obama shows some class!

Barack Obama told reporters firmly that families are off-limits in this campaign, reacting to news that Sarah Palin’s 17-year-old daughter is five months pregnant.

“Let me be as clear as possible,” said Obama, “I think people’s families are off-limits and people’s children are especially off-limits. This shouldn’t be part of our politics. It has no relevance to Gov. Palin’s performance as governor, or her potential performance as a vice president.”

Obama said reporters should “back off these kinds of stories” and noted that he was born to an 18 year-old mother.

“How a family deals with issues and teenage children, that shouldn’t be the topic of our politics and I hope that anybody who is supporting me understands that’s off-limits.”

Of course the media won’t listen to this. Anyway, for the record, I think Obama is being sincere here. I don’t agree that all family matters should be off limits, but in most cases they should.

Related: Dobson responds:

“In the 32-year history of Focus on the Family, we have offered prayer, counseling and resource assistance to tens of thousands of parents and children in the same situation the Palins are now facing. We have always encouraged the parents to love and support their children and always advised the girls to see their pregnancies through, even though there will of course be challenges along the way. That is what the Palins are doing, and they should be commended once again for not just talking about their pro-life and pro-family values, but living them out even in the midst of trying circumstances.

”Being a Christian does not mean you’re perfect. Nor does it mean your children are perfect. But it does mean there is forgiveness and restoration when we confess our imperfections to the Lord. I’ve been the beneficiary of that forgiveness and restoration in my own life countless times, as I’m sure the Palins have.

“The media are already trying to spin this as evidence Gov. Palin is a ‘hypocrite,’ but all it really means is that she and her family are human. They are in my prayers and those of millions of Americans.”

Especially since Obama’s own mother didn’t marry his father (as his second, bigamous, wife — which she didn’t know) until she was three months pregnant.

Yeah right, thank God Obama is kind enough not to point out the hypocrisy of social conservatives who champion abstinence education, which apparently failed in the case of Bristol Palin’s pregnancy.

If Obama had a 17-yr-old pregnant daughter, the GOP surrogates would have harassed her nonstop.

Excuse me, but would you explain how abstinence advocates are hyopocrites because someone who didn’t practice abstinence became pregnant?

Or is it a case that you believe that the only non-hypocritical response to a pregnancy in such a situation is a Muslim-style honor killing?

This is a plus. As Mark Steyn points out in his recent best seller, America Alone, if our western civilization is demographically to survive in the increasingly “hostile to the west” islamic world — and not end up like the sinking European populations — these are the precise people (the Bristol Palins’) we should thank for increasing their progeny.

Good analysis of the story. This is now, one of two things I respect/admire Obama for.
The other one is irrelevant to this issue, and on balance, two items are far short of winning my vote.

My point being, it is incorrect to demonize an opponent or deify ones political choice; it is more than incorrect, it is a form of mental delusion that we see during each election cycle.

Both have positives and both have negatives, judged by each of us according to our views, an educated voter will then choose the one with more positives on highly valued issues, not the one who demonstrates perfection (which indicates delusion.)

Is he kidding??? I know everyone loves Obama but really, who does he think he is??? This dirty politics and it has been played this way forever. If it’s too hot in the kitchen Obama, GET OUT. Does he think he is GOD and whatever he says goes? I am a 100% Democrat and am voting that way but he is a little full of himself if he thinks what he says is law. I love the dirty laundry airing part of politics. I wonder if he has some skeletons in the closet and maybe they might just get out.

It would not have been hypocritical had Sarah Palin not marketed herself as a “family values”, Bible-toting and Jesus-loving Republican. She’s just made a complete fool of herself, with a horny daughter who couldn’t keep her pants zipped and now you except nobody to respond to this gross indecency?

The way that the Palin family treated the pregnancy is outrageous. It’s as if having a high schooler have babies is all of a sudden “normal.” C’mon! Let’s not make mini-Junos throughout America. This is normalizing teenage pregnancy, which should not at all be acceptable in American society.

    Ted–
The reason our country is self-sustaining in population is because of immigrants, not because of presumably unwanted teenage pregnancies. Even the Census Bureau predicts that Whites will no longer form the majority in the U.S. by 2042, because minorities are beating Whites to it when it comes to children.

Obama’s statement should come as no surprise to anyone. He has always said that families are off limits. Remember the way the Media dogged Michelle?
