McCain’s VP Pick: It Could Be Is Sarah Palin!
MCain/Palin is up at McCain’s site

I cut it in half to fit it on the page.
“Today, John McCain put the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency. Governor Palin shares John McCain’s commitment to overturning Roe v. Wade, the agenda of Big Oil and continuing George Bush’s failed economic policies — that’s not the change we need, it’s just more of the same,” said Bill Burton, Obama Campaign Spokesman.
Way to go, Barry! Insulting Alaska and small town America in one shot, not to mention that The One is running for the job as President with zero foreign policy experience.
Blogs For Victory on the quote: “Umm, hello, this week, the Democrats nominated someone with zero foreign policy experience for the presidency.”
Michelle M on the quote: Hope to Change the subject. (as it is stated from the front page). She also says to read between the lines.
(I’m out for the day now, tee time. Might be too excited to play! Enjoy this incredible, wonder, exciting day, folks!)
Update: this is just truly exciting! Could it get any better?
Hockey Mom! I’m tempted to write a post like “The only way McCain can lose now is sexism,” but, unlike some on the left, I’m not insane.
Starting to get some reactions, which I will put below the fold, as this post is getting long
Kicking this to the top, because the talking heads are really focusing on Palin, and saying it is going to be her
Fox News says they got official confirmation of the pick. Could someone tell Carl Cameron at Fox that her name is Sarah, not Susan, please?
Wow, just think about this. The day after The Speech, McCain will be completely stealing Barry’s thunder over Labor Day Weekend, with the second ever pick of a woman on the ticket.
Won’t this look great? (via Michelle M)

Barry chose a massive Washington insider, Maverick picks someone who couldn’t be farther from Washington. Who’s changing now, Barry?
Interestingly, there is a reprint of an op-ed at the official John McCain for President site, John McCain is The Right Choice for Women. Serendipidy?
Also, parts of his site are hosed, looks like they are about to change part of the top part!
This represents both what McCain has done to Obama, and what Obama supporters heads (including those in the MSM) are doing

Update II: Maybe not. Maybe another female? Carly Fiorina?
Update: More…
On Friday, August 29, Fox & Friends reported that Palin’s family departed hastily from Anchorage, Alaska aboard a Gulfstream jet that landed near Dayton, Ohio, site of McCain’s planned vice presidential announcement. They cited the website Change&Experience.com, which also had correctly leaked travel details for Sen. Joseph Biden to Springfield, Illinois for Barack Obama’s announcement.
All the talking heads are saying that Sarah Palin has jumped up into the mix. Oh please oh please let it be Sarah.
And if it is, it will be truly humorous if the Dems say “y’all neocons have been complaining that Barack The Chosen One is too inexperienced, and now McCain picks Palin. See!”
Of course, Palin would be the VP pick, there to help and learn, not the person running for POTUS, who has to pick a guy who said that Barry was not qualified to be president to get some experience on the ticket. And she has still done more then Barack during her short time in office. Check out the Wikipedia entry. It is a pretty good one, and she has a pretty good story herself, which does not include consistently hanging around racists, unrepentant terrorists, and die-hard Marxists.
…Palin will argue that in fact Obama has no more experience than she does, and that Palin has the advantage of sharing McCain’s views (and thus being right) on the surge, Russian ambitions, and meetings with state terror sponsors. The VP debate against Biden may be dicey, but the McCain camp knows full well that a vice-presidential debate isn’t going to make or break their candidate. In short, McCain is hoping that Palin is good enough on this score for a number two pick against a Democratic ticket headed by a man with virtually the same meager national security credentials.
As to the second, Palin has much to offer McCain. On a non-political level few can doubt her Q-factor. (She will be the first former beauty queen to run on a national ticket.) The daughter of a teacher and mother of five, she has an ebullient personality and an excellent TV presence. The Right will be entranced : a pro-life hunter with a passion for domestic energy development? And in the battle for “change” she has the record of reform and the identity of a complete Washington outsider. Finally, as a lifelong NRA member, an outdoorswoman, and a western governor she may provide extra help in mountain and western states such as Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico which are certain to be in play.
On the policy front, Palin can make the case that the Democratic program of higher taxes, more spending, and a government takeover of health care is a proven loser. She will argue that she can bring practical experience from as far outside the Beltway as one can get. And, of course, the presence of a woman on the ticket creates instantaneous excitement and puts into play Clinton voters looking for a new champion.
The pick also tells us something about McCain: he thinks he can win. He was not willing to rock the boat with his conservative base. He can use Palin on offense to make a run at women voters and on defense to blunt the populist attacks from the Democrats. And it shows he understands the need to generate enthusiasm and “newness” in his own campaign.
Finally, based on all of the above, McCain can remind voters who has the real record of reform. Obama talks a lot about it but has no actual record of reform, and for a running mate, he chose a 35-year Washington insider with all sorts of connections to lobbyists and pork. McCain has fought pork, taken real political risks to fight undue influence of lobbyists, and he picked an outsider who took on her own party — and won.
This is change you can believe in, and not change that amounts to all talk. McCain changed the trajectory of the race today by stealing Obama’s strength and turning it against him. Obama provided that opening by picking Biden as his running mate, and McCain was smart enough to take advantage of the opening.
And, of course, many on the Left are very upset, but, hey, that’s politics.

Except… McCain is SEVENTY TWO! Responsible people write wills for this reason. He is accountable for at least preparing for the (greater than normal) possibility that he might not make it through 1 or 2 four year terms. If he thinks that she is ready to be President, then logically he has just lost his best argument against Barack.
Not at all — she holds executive office. That’s something Barry wants, and he waqnts to start at the TOP!!!
That’s funny – I didn’t know a VP’s job was one of an intern who uses the time to learn about being President. I thought it was someone qualified to be President who could lead from day 1 if McCain has a heart attack on Inauguration Day. Must be that McCain is signaling that being qualified for the job has nothing to do with years in Washington…
Oops! Game over.
At least the GOP has someone at the top of the ticket who IS ready to lead from day one. The same cannot be said for the Dems when the top of their ticket is empty, literally and figuratively. I’d rather have a VP that “learns” how to be president and, God willing, is not called on prematurely, than a President that has on-the-job training from day ONE!
McCain should pick Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska. She may be the only pick that brings all he needs to win.
I have been on the fence leaning towards using the write in vote option come November. However, if McCain picks Palin for VP, I will vote the McCain-Palin Ticket.
I watched several interviews with Palin on YouTube. She is an amazing person who gives straight answers and makes solid eye contact. Speaking of eyes, she has the spark of enthusiasm in hers.
Sarah Palin knew at 9 weeks gestation that her 5th child had down syndrome. There was never a question for her or her husband. She carried and gave birth to her beautiful baby boy. That’s real Pro-Life in action.
Palin is from common roots. Her parents are teachers, her husband a commercial fisherman, her son a U.S. Army foot soldier, and she is a lifelong member of the NRA. That appeals to the average, hard working American.
She stood up to the party elite and Sen. Stephens over his earmark for the “bridge to nowhere”. She will bring that strength and integrity to the ticket as VP.
There are millions of disaffected Cinton followers, mostly women, who are looking for an option. Palin will draw millions of those voters. And she is really Catholic, as opposed to Biden’s pro-choice catholic stand. She will draw Catholics looking for a viable option.
Palin represents the future of Republicans and conservatives. She wears that mantle well.
Sadly, McCain sounds a lot like Claude Raines in Casablanca “Round up the usual suspects”.
Hopefully McCain will look beyond the usual suspects and make the smart choice – Sarah Palin.
Any of the “usual suspects” would be a disaster. Carly Fiorina got drummed out of HP as arrogant, a poor leader, and impossible to work with. Kay Baily Hutchinson is a Beltway insider and almost as old as McCain.Meg Whitman has no political experience. Lieberman would sink the Republican party for the next 25 years. Romney will sink the ticket.
Beat me too it, IT.
Jon H, Palin has more experience now that Barack has. She is more qualified to be president then Barry. Can you name what makes Barry qualified, Jon? Anything beyond being a native born citizen age 35 and up?
Of course Palin has experience. Hello, she’s the chief executive of a state. She would be on the ticket for an executive office. Note that Obama has no executive experience, and relatively little legislative experience.
Also, note that Reagan, Clinton, and Bush were all state governors before the presidency.
Really, Rabbit? Getting beyond your silly nanny line, there was another leader who thought that babies with Downs Syndrome should be put down, too. He held many of the same positions that Obama does.
Can you guess which Fuhrer I am referring to?
It is really sad that Mccain had to stoop to this level. He is playing with the lives of the American People. He should be ashamed of his Old Self. This is why Obama will win!!!
Rabbit, your statements come across as those of a typical leftist moron. As the father of a severely handicapped child I find your shallow comments quite offensive. A nanny might be a great help for Palin, but she hasn’t given up her motherly role. Anyone who would consider praying for an abortion is a self centered monster. Since you are the one who imagined this, it reflects badly upon you, not the nanny (if one exists). My wife seconds my comments.
To McCain, I say “well done”. I won’t feel compelled to hold my nose when voting for you.
Hell, just the fact that she is raising FIVE children gives her more experience to run your country than Bambam!!! If anyone had seen her interview with Glenn Beck a few months ago, you would know what an amazing and gracious woman she actually is.
Having been a write-in vote for Ron Paul, I was disgusted with the choices we were faced with. NO MORE!!! I just got a look at the face of the Republican party of the future and she’s a drop dead knockout babe.
And there’s more…tough as nails, committed
to the people, her faith and country. Bag a moose in the morning, win a snowmobile race in the afternoon, tuck in the fishing boat at sunset and feed the kids their dinner..Oh…and run the state of Alaska and knock off a few corrupt politicians for lunch. Gawd, what a woman!!!!! Yeeeeee haaaaaaw. All American, straight-shooting beauty queen, ass-kicking mommma!!!!! You rock, Sarah!!!!
Leftist sniping NOWist libbers take note:
Sarah’s been DOING everything ya’ll have been flapping your gums about for decades. Eat your hearts out!
Poor Bury Obama BinHad….don’t ya just really HATE waking up in the middle of a wet dream????? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Woo-hoo! Perfect pick. Perfect timing.
She’s a real conservative AND some of the Hillary gang will vote for her and McCain.
Best political news in years.
Hard to believe Obama, with zero foreign policy experience, would criticize a VP pick. Hey, at least she has real executive experience.
The MSM feed McCain the story that the Hillary feminist supporters were up for grabs and McCain took the bait. (ò¿ó)
Feminist democrats aren’t going to vote for McCain because Palin’s on the ticket, Palin’s a pro-life conservative.
Never Happen!
McCain fell for the Okie Doke (ó¿ò)
Gee…..read a lesbian opinion on abortion or a how-to report on changing the oil in my hammer…..decisions, decisions….
Obama is scared now — Sarah Palin is almost as pretty as him!
You Republicans are so going down! I’m just lovin’ this! Revenge is sweeeet!
How so, Poncho? How does picking Palin give Obama an edge?
Let’s see…
A war hero, loved by moderates and Hispanics adds a Anne Oakley type of woman with a “Walking Tall” personality like Buford T. Pusser.
– VS –
A Community organizer who always managed to disqualify his opponents in order to get elected adds a blowhard who has referred to the man who chose him as “an abnormally clean, well spoken black guy who is unqualified for office”
I think McCain now has a great shot, but once in, we’ll all be wishing he would step aside or kick the bucket.
Obama: “Change doesn’t come from Washington, it has to come to Washington” after choosing a Dem. fossil as his running mate. Palin IS change COMING TO Washington.
Palin has used her Veto pen more often than Obama has voted at the state or Federal level (Present isn’t really a vote). She has more executive experience than McCain, Obama, or Biden.
Can’t wait for the vice presidential debates…..oh, man….it just doesn’t get any better than this. Our perky lil beauty queen gonna hand that boy his nads on a platter. In Alaska, they called her opponents the “casualty list.”
What these poor fool DemoDorks don’t get, and never will, is the woman is GENUINE. You don’t need to rehearse it or fake it. You either got it or you don’t. Guess who don’t!!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I love it, I love it, I love it!!!!!
There are press releases that spout how great it is that Palin was back at work, as Governor, the day after delivering her youngest child… but, that child is severely disabled! As a special ed. teacher, I’m appalled that she is leaving her youngest child, an infant with special needs, to a nanny to raise while she romps around the country to become VP. VP is not a ‘job’ it is your entire life. Having the income to hire a household staff is not the same as being a ‘working mom;’ it is simply managing a business. In addition, in high school her nickname was ‘barracuda’ for her illegal maneuvers on the court; she is under investigation for an Ethics violation (abuse of power); she was for the “Bridge to Nowhere,” in a 2006 interview; then when it became a political liability she flip-flopped over to voice opposition for the project, and she owns three houses, but doesn’t apparently count two of them as they’re only vacation homes… whose the elitist? No wonder McCain likes her – it’s someone just like him.

Find a better news source…it was three days.
As a special ed. teacher, I’m appalled that she is leaving her youngest child, an infant with special needs…
Your employer pays you to worry about how Alaska’s Governor raises her children?
In addition, in high school her nickname was ‘barracuda’ for her illegal maneuvers on the court;
“Gov. Palin grew up in Wasilla, where as star of her high school basketball team she got the nickname “Sarah Barracuda” for her fierce competitiveness.”
If you are getting your news from TNR, WP or The Jed Report you would be better off just staying at DU.
Special Ed Teachers Appalled by Over-Achieving Super Moms, a spinoff group of Nattering Nabobs of Negativity, are circulating petitions protesting the past successes and achievements of Alaska governor Sarah Palin on the grounds that it “just makes them look so darn feeble and it hurts.”
Developing………..
The only solution for someone who doesn’t shuffle around waiting for the government to tell them what to do the NEA has found is
RITALIN!!!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Poncho, far from minimizing your remark, I take heed of it. Who could be better qualified to know what “going down” looks like?
BREAK THE GLASS CEILING !!!
WOW … What a great pick!!! America should elect
McCain & Palin for the Whitehouse in November,
for a return to wholesome American values.
An experienced Governor for V.P. vs. a
community organizer for President … I pick Palin.
No Wright, no Farrakahn, no Ayers, no Rezko,
no mean Michelle, NOBAMA
Uh….Karen…..if you had emerged from your crack-induced fog any time in the last 20 years you would have realized that moths are flying out of all the Rolodexes….we don’t use those anymore. One word-REHAB!
Karen’s post has disappeared? Kewl….this is getting toooo easy!
HAHAHAHAHA
Interesting that people keep bringing up how Sarah is a “mother” to five children – and didn’t abort or give up the downs syndrome baby, chose to keep it and raise it.
How many hours — or even minutes — a day do you really think she spends with this child? Or any of her children? I’m a working mother myself, and I don’t have the luxury of a nanny to be there to wake my children up, make their meals, go shopping for them, etc. Let alone the needs of a “special needs” child. My cousin is a special needs child – my aunt quit her job to stay home and provide all of the additional stimulation he would need.
No way can anyone convince me she is Trig’s mother. The nanny is. Palin uses him as a prop and object lesson for her views. How can you call someone a mother who is literally an absent parent.
“wholeseome American values” — hmmm, who really teaches them? Clinton’s daughter graduated with honors from high school and college; Kennedy’s turned out wonderful. Obama’s appear to be on track. W had drunk teenagers; Palin has pregnant 17 year old. Who really taught good values?
The Palin’s have always had nannies. Even Track had one. Just ask around in Wasilla.
I will never understand why women attack other successful women in this world, we should be cheering each other on and supporting each other in all that we do whether we feel our calling is to teach, to stay home, to homeschool, to be a CEO of a company or to be the Vice President of the United States.
If it was a father of 5, there would be no discussion here.
First of all, having a nanny does not make you a horrible mother, nor does it make you less of a mother and it certainly doesn’t mean that you don’t love your children. Most nannies do many of the mundane day to day tasks for parents so that when they are with their children, they are with their children 100%, not distracted by laundry, or grocery shopping but totally with their children.
How many sahm can honestly say that they get to spend time with their children with their attention 100% focused on their child. I have known many SAHM in my life and sadly the majority of them are focused on a million other things besides their children.
If you have never walked in Sarah Palin’s shoes, do not judge her!
Who is watching your children while you are posting on this message board?
