It's not an ego thing, I follow politics pretty closely and I don't see any Democratic Senators, Congress-people, Presidential candidates, or rank-and-filers suggesting we abandon America to start up a one world government. So who are they? That's all I'm asking. Present some evidence or something, it's a half-baked conspiracy theory as is.

And Europe is doing fine, I believe. I still see borders when I look at it on a map. Germans and French people aren't countrymen or anything.

To Levi -- Long ago I learned that when a commenter begins their comments with an insult (such as calling an entire article 'ridiculous') the discussion generally goes downhill from there, and is seldom worth pursuing. After your insults, your criticism seems to be based on the somewhat egocentric supposition that because you never heard of such a thing, it therefore cannot exist. However, in response to your question -- if it was indeed a question -- I will offer this:
Rather than listing a roster of sources and doing your homework for you I will instead suggest that 'actions speak louder than words':

"In the last several decades Europe has already moved (perhaps irreversibly) in this direction, with its creation of the European Union, the introduction of the Euro, the pan-European capitol at Brussels, with its International Court at the Hague and, of course, its "moral" opposition the the "nationalistic" United States."

If you can interpret these actions differently than I, then so be it. To me, however, they are self-explanatory.

Finally I would say: Ask the beleaguered Brits if they think that this concept of the destruction of national sovereignty is a figment of this particular author's imagination. Your skepticism merely reveals the depth of your ignorance.

Best wishes,
rg

I made no argument, I ridiculed the author's.
Liberals don't argue against the idea of nations. He doesn't attribute those ideas to anyone in particular because he can't, there are no prominent liberals arguing against borders. It's just 'the left.' He's battling his imagination.

That is ridiculous. The left doesn't understand history, okay. And presumably the right does? You people can't even describe the history of the Iraq war accurately.

The rest boils down to some absurd notion I've never heard espoused anywhere that the left doesn't want there to be countries anymore, is that about right?

Ridiculous.

Weather one likes it or not, we need the nation state. What would stop a one world government from becoming totalitarian? Good intentions would not do it. The philosophy of its founders couldn't stop that either. It could start out as the most libertarian government the Earth has ever seen and it would only be a matter of time before it turned into a brutal tyranny. After all, who would or for that matter could, oppose them when they would control not only the most powerful military on Earth, but the only military on Earth? The left really doesn't think things through do they?
