More importantly, the Democrats are almost certain to expand their majorities in both the Senate and House after November. Thus, Joe Lieberman's influence on the one-vote Dem majority becomes a thing of the past. Joe knows he done after this term. He uber-liberal (i.e. labor, taxes, abortion, environmentalism, affirmative action, etc) on every BUT the Iraq War. So he'll never win another race as a Democrat, but is doomed if he tried to win as a Republican. The anti-Iraq War Democratic Party will wash their hands of him after November. And the Republican Party, having gotten their maximum use of Joe, will do likewise. The bottom line:

He's practically one now. Joe is very well respected in his home state and well liked too. They've been at least publicly respectful so far, but once his vote isn't needed anymore, that attitude will be a thing of the past. Committee chairs are given to people who the leadership thinks will accomplish what they themselves want. The republicans could always turn around and give Leiberman a position if they chose to vote him into one. Just remember, the Republicans had a chance to put a pork killer into a committee chair and instead chose a pork king for the position. It has really hurt my respect towards our congress. I see now that our representatives are not representative of who allows them to have power. I really wish there were a way for Americans to all come to realize that the way things have been distorted in this government has destroyed any real link between the people and the government.
