Edwards Admits Affair

The National Enquirer was right…at least partially. I guess the media can no longer ignore this story!
In an interview for broadcast tonight on Nightline, Edwards told ABC News correspondent Bob Woodruff he did have an affair with 42-year old Rielle Hunter, but said that he did not love her.
Edwards also denied he was the father of Hunter’s baby girl, Frances Quinn, although the one-time Democratic Presidential candidate said he has not taken a paternity test.
Edwards said he knew he was not the father based on timing of the baby’s birth on February 27, 2008. He said his affair ended too soon for him to have been the father…
Edwards said his wife, Elizabeth, and others in his family became aware of the affair in 2006.
Edwards made a point of telling Woodruff that his wife’s cancer was in remission when he began the affair with Hunter…
Edwards today admitted the National Enquirer was correct when it reported he had visited Hunter at the Beverly Hills Hilton last month.
The former Senator said his wife had not known about the meeting.
The question everyone will be wondering is…what made him finally confess? Perhaps ABC had something, and gave him the opportunity to come clean before airing it?
A detail I initially missed but which I’ve now added to the blockquote: “Edwards said his wife, Elizabeth, and others in his family became aware of the affair in 2006.” Obvious question: If the affair ended so long ago that he couldn’t be the father of a child born in February of this year, what’s he doing sneaking out to a hotel late at night to visit his old girlfriend?
Good question. Enquiring minds want to know. All this while his wife fought cancer. What a scumbucket!
Edwards says his family found out about the affair in 2006, but according to the December 25, 2006 issue of Newsweek, Hunter was still “under contract” with the campaign. Would he really have kept her on after he told his wife given the unbelievable awkwardness that would entail?
According to people close to the Edwardses, Elizabeth Edwards has secured a primetime speaking role at the Democratic National Convention; John Edwards, as of this point, does not, and people close to him think he will beg off and not attend the convention so as not to distract Obama. Obama aides would not say whether either Edwards is on the schedule.
I don’t think he will have to beg to get out of speaking at the convention.
Oh, like it makes a difference that John didn’t love Rielle? He broke his marriage vows to Elizabeth, and it makes him look like a shameless huckster to try and carry off as though he was the family man even as his family knew he strayed.
Edwards touted himself as the family values candidate, but it now looks like he had twice the family values of anyone else - his official family plus Rielle. Edwards also admitted that the National Enquirer was correct in its reporting that he was at the Beverly Hilton to meet with Rielle, though he claims that he isn’t the father of Rielle’s child. A paternity test is not in the cards, and one of Edwards’ advisers, Andrew Young, claims to be the father.
Did you know he was “Father of the Year” too?
Update: William Teach ads: what are you people gawking at? Don’t you know “These matters are none of our business anyway; he’s no longer running for office….” Except of course he was being talked up for a spot somewhere in the Barry administration, perhaps Attorney General, where he can channel perps (read “right wingers”) in court.
Pam Spaulding apparently did not get the Talking Points Memo yet, because she is supposed to be discussing John McCain having done the same thing!
In parlance, this is stage 2 of The 8 Stages Of Liberal/Progressive Discussion When They Are Busted, ”Find some sort of moral equivalence or a story from 30 years ago saying a Conservative did something sort of similar.”
Kudo’s to The Carpetbagger Report for saying how wrong Edwards was, as well as did skippy the bush kangaroo, but not to Talk Left, which is more concerned with how this hurts Democrats chances in politics this year. Hey, maybe if more folks on the Left actually had guiding morals.

For the truly hilarious, we have to take a dive at Pandagon, where Amanda Marcotte brings out not only the “it’s none of our business” and “what about McCain?” talking points, but even goes so far as to tell us that Dems really have no morals. You remember Amanda, right? She was one of Silky’s bloggers, before she and Melissa McEwan got thrown under the bus for being foul mouth religion bashers, among others.
BTW, I still love the slightly racist banner, with Obama’s logo right next to the saying “it’s a jungle out there.” Good job, Amanda!

The real shocker is the silence that came from the “mainstream media” . When a tabloid paper comes out with a story of importance that is not even mentioned by our “trusted Sources” the public and the Republic suffers.

Gitmo which is horrendously old news will likely get more news coverage over the next two years than the Edwards story will, because leftists would rather attack their own country over and over and over and over than make a single one of their own accountable for anything.
Liberals will be in downplay mode, eager to get back to trashing their own country - saying:
“Poor Edwards’ family. They must really be hurting right now. Now let’s get back to talking about how horrible America is…and how Conservatives are to blame – never minding the fact that liberals have been in control of congress for how long?.”
That is the difference….
When a conservative messes up, other conservatives pressure the idiot out of whatever office they hold or hope to hold. Conservatives don’t start making excuses, yipping again about 6 year old stories designed to announce to the world how much they hate their country.
When a liberal lies, cheats, pays off a mistress and insults others in the process – well then liberals immediately go into all the reasons why it’s no big deal.

Edwards could have did what Kennedy did and crashed the car with the women in a lake and it would have made page 12 small print in the news paper and the 30 seconds at the end of the MSM on TV and cable. I know it’s a harsh thing to say but its the sad truth. Liberals are the new Terrorists in this country!
