Karma’s a… well, you know: Westboro Baptist Church engulfed in flames
Posted on August 5, 2008
Couldn’t have happened to more deserving people:
The Topeka Fire Department is investigating a small fire today outside of a church whose members protest at soldier’s funerals.
The Topeka Capital-Journal reports on its Web site that a fence and garage at Westboro Baptist Church became engulfed in flames early today.
Topeka Fire Marshal Greg Bailey said the cause of the fire has not been determined.
However, a spokeswoman for the church, Shirley Phelps-Roper, believes it was deliberately set.
Members of the church frequently picket military funerals, arguing that the deaths of U.S. troops overseas are part of God’s punishment for the nation’s tolerance of homosexuality.
Bailey said damage is estimated at $10,000.
Now, I don’t wish this kind of thing on anybody. But now that it’s happened, what can I say? What goes around comes around.
The WBC idiots think the fire was deliberately set (surprise, surprise). My thoughts are, maybe God got a little pissed off at the Phelps wackos for doing such vile things in his name and decided to take some action. Who knows?

I have no sympathy for the freaks, however…whoever did this are criminals and I hope they are caught and brought to justice as well. Free speech is free speech, and I will not applaud this crime though it is tempting to do so. I know how different our reactions would be if this crime was to a more moderate religion instead of a hate cult. Its only natural to be less sympathetic, but crime is crime.
One other thing. I do not think this had anything to do with God. If God wanted the church burned down he would have sent a bolt of lightning to do the job.
What these people do to the Military Families is despicable and a disgrace to our fine men and women who gives their lives so these freaks can use our First Amendment Rights to make a political statement, they disrespect and wage heartless attacks on our fallen soldiers and their families at a time when the families need our support the most.
If that ain’t a crime I don’t know what is.
As far as the bolt of lighting, I believe that God uses man to do his bidding.
If I pray all day for the light to go out at home, there not going out until I turn them out.
Until the investigation is finished, there’s no telling what caused the fire. But, since the WBC have brought so much hatred down on themselves, their natural inclination is going to be professional victimhood. Even if the investigation turns up that the fire started in a computer that was hit by a power surge, the WBC will still find a way to play the victim, with an accusation of “anti-Christian bias” on the part of the fire marshal.
The safe assumption has long been that Fred Phelps is mentally ill and disconnected from reality. Hanlon’s Razor doesn’t apply to him.

And I hope I’m on the jury, so I can say “Not guilty.” No matter what.
