Ibn Kathir’s Tafsir is available at http://www.tafsir.com and http://www.qtafsir.com. The latter site includes an easy to use search engine. In my blog posts,I link quotes to http://www.tafsir.com.

Ibn Kathir includes the Arabic text of the ayeh, its translation and relevent hadith. Al-Jalalayn and Ibn Abbas are much less loquacious, but they frequently agree with Ibn Kathir. http://Www.altafsir.com provides al-Jalalayn & Ibn Abbas as well as several Qur’an translations. They include translator’s commentary for Yusuf Ali & Assad.

Allah said “fight them” and “fight those”. Moe said “I am commanded to fight”. Islamic law says “The Caliph makes war upon Jews, Christians and Zoroastrians…”, citing 9:29 as the basis for the ruling.

Only the willfully blind will fail to detect the congruent pattern formed by those texts.

Read them, C, instead of carping about details. Moe said that he was commanded to fight until his victims share his testimony and rituals. He said that doing so makes our blood and property sacred to Muslims. That is, in effect, a declaration of open season. It is also congruent with 9:29.

Ben also misleads in his description of “tafsir,” the singular Arabic term for scriptural exegesis. A tafsir explains the views of ONE scholar or individual as to the meanings of the Qur’anic text. Their views expressed in the tafsir are not binding and in fact are probably not in agreement with other tafsir collections by other scholars.

Ben shows his ignorance. “Ahadith” is the standard English transliteration of the Arabic PLURAL term. “Hadith” is the standard transliteration of the Arabic SINGULAR term. He doesn’t know the difference and this is seen clearly in his statement: “Each listed ahadith has a link to its source so that you can access the entire Hadith collection.”

He also uses “ayeh” when “ayah” is closer to the Arabic pronunciation of the word.

Yet we are supposed to trust his evaluation of secondary sources on Islam and Arabic Islamic texts.

You can find substantiation for Roger’s description of Islam in EgregiousAyat.chm, a Windows help file which you can download free from the New Extended Library at http://www.geocities.com/crusadersarmory/ .

That document includes tables full of the most egregious commands of Allah from the Qur’an and sayings & deeds of Muhammad from the Hadith. It also includes a substantial subset of Ibn Kathir’s Tafsir, which explains the meaning of the Qur’an.

Each listed ayeh has links to its source and to directly related topics in Ibn Kathir’s Tafsir.

Each listed ahadith has a link to its source so that you can access the entire Hadith collection.

Also included is a substantial subset of Book O of Reliance of the Traveler, which lays out Islamic law concerning matters of justice including Jihad. Islamic law says that “The Caliph makes war upon Jews and Christians.”.

For fourteen hundred years, even as the Western Tradition stumbled through its history seeking though reason, universal acceptance of others and our own self-evaluation, we have had to wrestle with ohammed. As we have vetted our own government, legal and, yes, religious systems we have had to wrestle with Mohammed.
As we have worked with justice in balancing scales, we have been more than open to a reasonable means to co-abide.
But, Mohammed has no interest in reason. As Mohammed uses our laws to subdue us, he sees us as fools. But we can enjoy life, even while struggling to maintain principles. Mohammed will have to die to find he was void of human principles all along.
