Arlington National Cemetery… Who gave you permission to change history?

This was sent to me from a friend, and I believe the missing words should be added!

“SHALL WE HIRE A MONUMENT ENGRAVER TO GO TO ARLINGTON NATIONAL CEMETERY AND ADD THE MISSING WORDS ?

A MESSAGE FROM AN APPALLED OBSERVER:

Today I went to visit the new World War II Memorial in Washington, DC. I got an unexpected history lesson. Because I’m a baby boomer, I was one of the youngest in the crowd. Most were the age of my parents, Veterans of “the greatest war,” with their families. It was a beautiful day, and people were smiling and happy to be there. Hundreds of us milled around the memorial, reading the inspiring words of Eisenhower and Truman that are engraved there.

On the Pacific side of the memorial, a group of us gathered to read the words President Roosevelt used to announce the attack on Pearl Harbor:

Yesterday, December 7,
1941– a date which will live in infamy–the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked.

One elderly woman read the words aloud:

“With confidence in our armed forces, with the abounding determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph.”

But as she read, she was suddenly turned angry. “Wait a minute,” she said, “they left out the end of the quote.. They left out the most important part. Roosevelt ended the message with “so help us God.”

Her husband said, “You are probably right. We’re not supposed to say things like that now.”

“I know I’m right,” she insisted. “I remember the speech.” The two looked dismayed, shook their heads sadly and walked away.

Listening to their conversation, I thought to myself,Well, it has been over 50 years she’s probably forgotten.”

But she had not forgotten. She was right.

I went home and pulled out the book my book club is reading — “Flags of Our Fathers” by James Bradley. It’s all about the battle at Iwo Jima .
I haven’t gotten too far in the book. It’s tough to read because it’s a graphic description of the WWII battles in the Pacific.

But right there it was on page 58. Roosevelt’s speech to the nation ends in “so help us God.”

The people who edited out that part of the speech when they engraved it on the memorial could have fooled me. I was born after the war! But they couldn’t fool the people who were there. Roosevelt’s words are engraved on their hearts.

Now I ask: “WHO GAVE THEM THE RIGHT TO CHANGE THE WORDS OF HISTORY?????????”

Send this around to your friends People need to know before everyone forgets. People today are trying to change the history of America by leaving God out of it, but the truth is, God has been a part of this nation, since the beginning. He still wants to be…and He always will be!”

A note from Radarsite: By now, most of you have probably read about this outrage — excuse me, this latest outrage — against our beleaguered Judeo/Christian society. This one begs the question: Is there nothing sacred? And apparently the answer is, Yes, nothing is sacred. No time-honored symbol of our traditional shared values is to be spared from the cold steel scalpels of political correctness and multiculturalism.

We are in a virtual civil war, but we are fighting in the dark. We are not even certain who our enemies are anymore. Are they our own government? our own venerable institutions? our own elected leaders? our friends and neighbors?

We are just now beginning to understand what it must have been like to live under the moral humilitions of Petainism in Vichy France. We are just now beginning to understand what it is like to be living under the amoral rule of a cowardly collaborationist government who, in order to avoid further conflict, has chosen to give away our precious birthrights to the occupying enemy. And make no mistake about it, my friends, we are indeed occupied by the enemy. And the enemy is being welcomed with open arms.

They are taking away our diginity and our history and our language and our pride. And now they are taking away our God.

Are we men or are we cattle?

Is there no Resistance?

To Mrs. Happy Housewife re: Snopes article: Here is the original Washington Times article. If they got it wrong then there will have to be a whole bunch of retractions from dozens of journalists and bloggers, Yours truly amongst them.

Bob McEwan paid a visit to the new World War II Memorial in Washington this week and “got an unexpected history lesson.”

“Since I’m a baby boomer, I was one of the youngest in the crowd,” Mr. McEwan tells Inside the Beltway. “Most were the age of my parents, veterans of ‘the greatest war.’ It was a beautiful day, and people were smiling and happy to be there. Hundreds of us milled around the memorial, reading the inspiring words of Ike and Truman that are engraved there.”

Mr. McEwan made his way around to the memorial’s “Pacific” section, where a group had gathered to read the determined words of President Franklin D. Roosevelt when he announced the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor: “Yesterday, December 7, 1941 — a date which will live in infamy — the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked.”

One woman, says Mr. McEwan, read the words aloud: “With confidence in our armed forces — with the unbounding determination of our people — we will gain the inevitable triumph.”

Suddenly, the woman became visibly angry: “Wait a minute,” she told her husband. “They left out the end of the quote. They left out the most important part. Roosevelt said — ’so help us God.’… I know I’m right. I remember the speech.”

The couple shook their heads and walked away.

As Mr. McEwan puts it, “The people who edited out that part of the speech when they engraved it on the memorial could have fooled me. I was born after the war. But they couldn’t fool the people who were there. Roosevelt’s words are engraved on their hearts.”

Those exact words were: “With confidence in our armed forces, with the unbounded determination of our people, we will gain the inevitable triumph — so help us God.”

    Roger,

What Mrs. Happy Housewife is correctly pointing out is, the quote placed on the Monument… “Yesterday, Dec. 7, 1941 – a date which will live in infamy…No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.” does not include “so help us God”.

[That quote occurred 3 paragraphs later.]

I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.

Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.

“With confidence in our armed forces – with the unbounding determination of our people – we will gain the inevitable triumph – so help us God.”

You folks are correct that the address to congress on 8 December 1941 included the phrase “so help us God.”

But the display at the WWII Memorial only uses 38 words out of the 521 words in the whole address, so a lot of words were left out.

But they did leave in “…the American people in their righteous might…”

So everybody just take a breath and calm down. And let’s get back to protecting marriage from those gay people.

re: God Erased: See above retraction.

    And to Clayton–
Thank you for reminding us of the necessity to do what we can to protect the sacred institution of marriage from the machinations of the gay and leftist activists. This is a truly worthy cause, and we appreciate you support. – rg
