I'm encouraged this morning to wake up to breaking news that President Bush is pushing for lifting the ban on offshore drilling. There is already a big fight about that with democrats making it a politic issue instead of calling it what it would be...relief!
You can bet that this is exactly what is going to make or break the candidates this year in the presidential election.
It's got nothing to do with democrats or republicans. People need to take their blinders off!
Punishing "big oil" is obviously as effective as shooting ourselves in the foot!
Remember the same "whiners" saying the war in Iraq is all about the oil? Funny that we get none of their oil!

Beverly, You and your husband seem like sensible people with a better grasp on reality than most. Punishing big oil with taxes will only hurt our economy and domestic production. If we tax them are we also going to bail them out when they have record losses as we do with Savings & Loans, Airlines, Mortgage Lenders, and foriegn dictatorships? If Clinton had signed ANWR rather than veto it his first term, a conservative estimate of new oil would be about 300 thousand barrels a day.ANWR is about new technology and a small footprint in the arctic. And for the misinformed, there are no mountains, precious streams or trees on the north slope. It is flat as far as the eye can see. Wildlife interacts and has the right of way. This is nothing like the old oilfields of Texas and Okla.

Thank you, Brian! This has been my husband and my thoughts for years. He, too, works around oil fields. He's a piping designer and has good knowledge about how this all ties into what has been going on concerning our own oil fields, foreign oil, high gas prices, and coming food shortages, (already happening) and they all tie together in results of the global warming "threats."
Even last evening on the news they are already talking about a 6% increase in inflation because of the flooding in our mid states where they produce food for the world.
It is interesting that they mention that now there will be a higher demand on ethanol. Like they are more concerned about having enough ethanol than feeding people. Got to have "clean air" first?
The "whiners" don't realize that the US has more than enough oil to produce for our own in the northern slope and off our coasts that we can easily support ourselves AND export to serve other countries (thus getting our debt down)....but thanks to whoever (whiners) gave the environmentalists
the power to run this country a muck!
The US has not been able to even build one new refinery since the 70's. We have all this oil and can't touch it. We have people willing to do what it takes to get it useable, but we'd rather cry and complain and hug tree's than be self efficiant.
I'm glad people are finding out the truth and speaking out!
As for warming and cooling, I believe the earth has a 30-40 year trend. It warms a bit for 30-40 years and then has a cooling trend for the same. I have an article about that "somewhere" from a WWU professor I stumbled on a few months ago.If I can find it I'll grab a link.

I agree with Beverly and the need to clean up after ourselves. However I do not for one minute agree with the Global Warming Scam. I work on a drilling rig in the arctic. We have the cleanest, safest oilfield in the world here in Alaska and have every intention of keeping it that way. I have worked on the north slope for 15 years and we've had the coldest year this year that I can remember. While mainstream media is talking about the coast of Alaska receding rapidly, I have personally witnessed it frozen solid on the same day. Don't get sucked into this crap. The earth has Ice ages about every 10,000 yrs. Between ice ages the earth warms. in the 70's they feared a coming ice age. If we was to bet on which to worry about more, my $$ would be on buying a warm coat.

Seriously. The loudest whiners, I've noticed, hail from Canada and Britain. What's interesting, though, is that there are more deaths per capita in Britain from the cold as opposed to the heat.

It was a great weekend to be out on the slopes at Willamette Pass.

In regard to the global warming scare, I always try to squash the hype by referring to the sun ... I usually say something like this when engaged in an argument: "global warming is not proven ... what is proven, documented and observable is SOLAR WARMING ... sun spots!" The average person has never heard of this, and can't effectively respond.
Anyway, if anyone is interested in observing up to the minute snow levels, and ski area conditions please check out www.OnTheSnow.com ... the site is extensive with conditions for ski areas, in North America, Europe, and the Southern Hemisphere. Right now the focus is on winter in Chile, Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand.

Stop the ACLU, Rock on! I think a lot of people are getting tired of the global warming threats, I know I am!
Sure it's a good thing to be good to our environment, don't throw trash out in the streets, pick up your cig butts, recycle what you can...it all keeps the earth beautiful.
I am from up here in the Great Pacific Northwest I admire the beauty of this area and will do my best to keep it beautiful. However, there are so many "extreme's" concerning "global warming" up here and all over for that matter, where its really getting so ridiculous! People shunned for driving cars...we're suppose to take the bus or ride our bikes everywhere....Get rid of your gas sucking GT convertible and resort to an ugly shoe with boo-koo batteries and no ump so you can't pull your boat. BTW, get rid of the boat it's polluting our drinking water...do not enjoy life as God has given it to you to enjoy!
Global warming? Up here? I say, bring it on! And meanwhile, Im going to enjoy life, in my GT and out on the lake, and I'll be driving to the store and back...
PS What plan do they have when all those ugly battery operated cars break down? What are they suppose to do with all the batteries?
You just keep on rambling, Girlfriend! That's how Al Gore started all this nonesense. That's how it'll have to stop!

The main flaw with blaming all the environmental degredation on man made emissions of CO2 is that it does nothing to protect the environment... And lets face it... the proof isn't there. Sure, the planet is warming. Did we cause it? Unlikely... Does 100 years of gradually improving weather measurements mean we can accurately predict future climate? No. Do we have the capability to predict the weather in 3 months time let along 30 years or 300 years? No. Do we have to adapt to global warming? Yes! Do we think we can stop global warming? You are an idiot if you think you can!
