Prediction: McCain Will Win Against Obama In the General

Posted on May 24, 2008

I’ll go with the Politico’s description of cautious and muted optimism that McCain will win, and probably by a bigger margin than Bush vs. Gore. We’ve been through two nail biting elections, and I’ll go out on a limb and predict this one won’t be so close. It isn’t cuz McCain is something extraordinary though. Conservatives are anything but excited about our candidate. He has a list too long to bother with on why Conservatives don’t care for him. The reason he will beat Obama has everything to do with how radical Obama is…and the list on Obama is also too long for me to regurgitate. We have his pastor, his friendship with terrorists, his condescending attitude, and his nature towards appeasement just for appetizers.

“That would certainly run against the grain of history, if he pulled that off,” Ayers added. “But it’s also clearly plausible and a manageable outcome partly because of John McCain’s strength among independents and partly because of Obama’s weakness in culture, ideology and association.”

Some Republican strategists can envision a scenario in which Obama wins the popular vote but loses in the Electoral College — he might galvanize Southern black turnout, for example, but still fail to switch a state in the region.

Among the 10 strategists interviewed by Politico for this story, there was near-uniform belief that had any other Republican been nominated, the party’s prospects in November would be nil.

“No disrespect to the other candidates,” said GOP pollster Glen Bolger, “but if anyone else had been nominated we’d be toast.”

Welcome everyone to the middle of the road. Walk that dotted yellow line and watch out not to get run over!

Amen! It is ironic to me that so many conservatives predicted that John McCain would destroy the GOP, yet now it is becoming ever apparent that he is the only person that can save us from complete oblivion this November. True, he has taken positions on some issues that are not doctinaire conservative, and he has not been shy about it. However, so has George W. Bush, and for that matter Ronald Reagan. It is beyond disturbing to hear conservatives say they won’t vote for McCain to ‘teach everyone a lesson’. Another 9/11? Coffee with the scum of the Earth? Roe v. Wade the law of the land FOREVER? If you can honestly say that you are comfortable with any of the above, then you are NOT a conservative and have absolutely no business saying McCain is not conservative.

I’ve said it before, elsewhere, but I can’t wait to see the election coverage. People being exit polled are likely to lie, and say they voted for Obie, just so they won’t be thought of as racist. If that happens, the networks will be calling the election for Obama, but then will find themselves stumped by how he lost so badly.

I still think McCain will destroy whats left of the GOP. With a McCain presidency and a large Dem majority in both Houses and McCains desire to make friends with Reid and Pelosi what bills will pass? When Universal Healthcare and Amnesty pass decades later they will blame a GOP President. As the saying goes ” On his Watch”. McCain will side with Dems against real conservatives very often.

As a (mostly) life-long Democrat, I am switching my vote to McCain if Obama is the Democratic nominee.

Kill the GOP? Maybe, but nothing can kill conservatism. Perhaps McCain will bury it, but it will only result in a great resurrection at some point.
