Lieberman for VP?

There is no question that McCain would lose a lot of the conservative base if he made this decision, but would it be cushioned by how many independent, middle-of the roaders he could possibly gain? The logic of this option is being discussed. Perhaps he is positioning…if you haven’t read his WSJ article spanking the Democrats for their foreign policy, you should read the whole thing. Here is a sample:

How did the Democratic Party get here? How did the party of Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman and John F. Kennedy drift so far from the foreign policy and national security principles and policies that were at the core of its identity and its purpose?

Beginning in the 1940s, the Democratic Party was forced to confront two of the most dangerous enemies our nation has ever faced: Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. In response, Democrats under Roosevelt, Truman and Kennedy forged and conducted a foreign policy that was principled, internationalist, strong and successful.

This was the Democratic Party that I grew up in – a party that was unhesitatingly and proudly pro-American, a party that was unafraid to make moral judgments about the world beyond our borders. It was a party that understood that either the American people stood united with free nations and freedom fighters against the forces of totalitarianism, or that we would fall divided.

This was the Democratic Party of Harry Truman, who pledged that “it must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures.”

Marc Ambinder wonders if Joe is preparing to drop the D by his title and whether he could be on McCain’s short list. I can’t branch out with predictions here, but I’ll play a safe one. McCain probably won’t take a huge gamble picking Lieberman, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. Lieberman probably has a spot on the cabinet though. Alex Koppelman thinks Bill Kristol is wrong as well.

Robbie Cooper wants to trade Hagel for Lieberman. I agree that the Democrats would probably like this trade as well.

Interesting: Gingrich has suggested this ticket as well.

I’ll take the switch of Liberman, to Hagel. But I’d rather have Hagel form a Real Conservative party. But if McAmnesty picks Liberman, I think it would be a sure sign of things to come. Concering Government.

Now, the hawks would love this pick.He wants to bomb any country that “theatens” American Interest (not soil). But, a lot of you, who like Ol’Joe, seem to forget that, the guy is as far left on all other things. Gun Rights, States Rights, and Abortion. He’s as far left as Obama. “But he’s for the war.”

I still think the VP slot is going to go to either Huckabee, Rick Perry, or the FL. Gov. Liberman with be in the cabinet, theres no doubt about that. Sec. of Homeland Security, will be the likely choice.

Now for Obama, to pick Hagel, would be like McAmnesty picking Liberman, but only different. Hagel doesn’t agree with the war. But he’s just about as far right as I am on most issues.

The “safe” bets for Obama would be the Gov. of Montana (i don’t mind him, very pro-state and gun rights) of course Hitlery, and I think Sen. Biden could be on the short list.

What about Hillary Clinton for McCain’s VP? Now that would shake things up!!!

One thing is for certain, Obama will never pick her.

I’ve speculated about the pros and cons over on my website…..

It does occur to me that McCain will attempt to counterpunch. If Obama picks Hagel, McCain will pick Lieberman. If Obama picks a woman, McCain will likely pick a woman or a minority. If Obama plays it straight and picks an established white male Democrat, then McCain will probably pick someone safe to shore up his base…….

None of us have forgotten Lieberman’s liberal views…thats why he’ll lose a big chunk of the base, one he is barely holding onto, if he makes such a choice. McCain HAS to rely on the independents. He can’t rely on the conservative base cuz he’s stabbed em in the back too many times. The conservatives that vote for him will actually only be doing so to avoid the alternative.

Ain’t gonna happen…It’ll probably be Romney, but it could be a current or ex-governor like Huckabee, Jindal, Christ or Ridge.
