Farmers get paid not to plant crops; teachers should be able to reap the same benefits. From what I’ve seen this may be a break even deal anyway, students graduating without being able to read or do basic math in some cases would tend to show there’s not much teaching going on even when the teachers show up and work. On a side note, my being a retired cop would put me in the role of ideal civil servant; I don’t need to show up for work and they still have to pay me. While contemplating the import of such a statement, the pay I received while on the job wasn’t that great and each time we were up for a pay raise they would explain how they couldn’t afford to increase our pay; but to make it up they would increase our retirement percentage, knowing that a greater percentage of cops quit and never make retirement.
