Funny that this says that conservatives don’t care about others, since a large majority of church-goers are conservative, and isn’t it the churches & the Christian ministries all over the world that go out of their way to help those in need anywhere & anyhow? I haven’t seen very many (if any)Liberal organizations packing up care packages to send to Indonesia, sweating over the re-building of the areas devastated by Katrina, or sending their youth to serve in third world countries infested with Malaria; but maybe my viewpoint is a bit skewed because I am a conservative & I am happy that these people are facing such adversities in their lives.

Of course you are right that the radicals on both ends are most angry. However, that isn’t what the study is saying. It is saying ALL conservatives don’t care about others and that all liberals do. It isn’t talking about the extremes.

Yeah, but some sources say that it’s the Democrats raking in most of the dough.

I think the radicals on both ends can be an earful. I would agree that radicals, left and right, are the angriest.

Jost is well known for his “system justification” hypothesis. He’s also well known for citing Altemeyer’s “Right-wing Authoritarianism” which completely ignores the evidence in support of left-wing authoritarianism. Jost also tends to stay away from the work of researchers like John Haidt at the University of Virginia (also a liberal) who presents a more balanced picture of the differences between conservatives and liberals. Haidt has a theory of moral foundations that explains how liberals and conservatives think differently regarding moral issues. People should also be watching out for Drew Weston whose “research” is even more suspect than that of Jost.

I’ve got a sawbuck that says John Jost and Jaime Napier were just “too busy” to take a swing through HuffPost and Kos. Hell, if they had, they would have immediately realized their own study was verifiably B.S.

So the assumption is injected that they SHOULD be angry! No argument is offered to say why. I will probably say more about this when the actual academic journal article underlying the report below comes online. One of the authors, John Jost, has however previously shown some strange ideas about how to define conservatism so I expect further idiocy and bias in his measure of “rationalization”.
