Hillary on Iran Attack: Obliterate Em
Posted on April 21, 2008
Update: More details on her Iran stance in her interview with Olbermann:
Clinton further displayed tough talk in an interview airing on “Good Morning America” Tuesday. ABC News’ Chris Cuomo asked Clinton what she would do if Iran attacked Israel with nuclear weapons.
“I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president, we will attack Iran,” Clinton said. “In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them.”
Are there enough blue dogs left for this appeal to do any good for her? I’m surprised to hear this kind of talk from her. She’s obviously given up on appealing to the nutroots crowd which will accept nothing less than complete defeatist pacifism. I guess Obama’s got that crowd all wrapped up.
I’m not sure that McCain would even come out with words this strong about Iran right now. I’m pretty sure he wouldn’t.

This is about appealing to Jewish voters in PA, and nothing more. If Iran attacked Israel with nukes, Israel would cease to exist due to its small size and concentrated population centers around Jerusalem and Tel Aviv.
It’s nice that Hillary would take Iran out after Iran attacks our ally the Israelis, but she and Obama will do nothing to keep Iran from getting nukes, to say nothing of undermining our strategic and military position in the region.
You kidding? She’s completely gone off the deep end.“I want the Iranians to know that if I’m the president, we will attack Iran,” wtf? yeah thats a pretty easy statement to make when you wont be heading into combat over these paranoid delusions.
“In the next 10 years, during which they might foolishly consider launching an attack on Israel, we would be able to totally obliterate them.” Well at least she is willing to admit that they arnt currently considering launching an attack. Whens the last time they attacked anyone? saddam attacked them, the russians were considering it during the cold war, but they have been defensive little isolationists for the last 300 years.
and about that whole little “wipe them off the map” thing- thats a AMERICAN BUZZWORD, you are conditioned to equate that with nuclear war and some petty little linguist got a nice pat on the back for finding something that could be mutilated into that statement. Israel was created by the UN and just as easily as it was made, it can be unmade. thats all the iranian putz was getting at: with an eraser and the stroke of a pen you can turn Israel into a place where people arnt constantly killing eachother.
Am I reading that sideways, or does it sound like she’s letting them know we couldn’t do it now, but give us ten years…we’ll wipe ‘em out?
Pfft! We could mop ‘em up now, and not even bat an eye.
Iawhawk is right. This is about the .02% of the Jewsih vote in America. Well, that and the Evangelical/Fundementalists/Rapture Ready folks.
I still find it crazy that, we have to defend a country, that we have NO “treaty” with stating that “we must protect Israel”. Like we do with NATO countries. And, it’s maddness that we have people in this country that equate Israel with America. People do relise that the overseas spending this Administration has done, has sped up the crashing of the dollar right??
Israel, is not part of the Republic folks.
And may I add another thing. Israel is a SOCIALIST country.
Again, it’s maddness. Jake, I’m with ya.
She’s beyond shrill, she’s incomprehensible.
It’s not aimed primarily at Jewish voters — how many of them are there in Pennsylvania? It’s more aimed at evangelical Christians, who feel a strong connection with Israel.
But most of all, it’s aimed at Obama. Between now and the Pennsylvania primary — or even after it — will he match her commitment with an equally strong statement, and alienate his left-wing base? Or will he keep silent or even criticize her, and alienate the evangelicals, the Blue Dog Democrats, virtually all Republicans, and quite a few defense-oriented independents?
PMS
Thus said Billary, the two headed beast of political whoredom just before it got its itchy finger on the trigger. God help us all if she’s elected.
It is so sad that in the search for a president free from testosterone overload, a female candidate feels obliged to be even more macho. I frankly am not searching for an American version of Margaret Thatcher. No one seems to look at the flip side of her defense shield proclamation. Would the US “obliterate” Israel if Israel is the first to use nuclear weapons?
The age of super powers and Empire have passed.
All the offended David’s have learned that Goliath puts his pants on one leg at a time and lives in a house of cards. It’s time for a new paradigm.
For those who find themselves in perpetual paranoid hyperventilation slipping into the mindset of do unto others before they do it unto you, set your Google Alert to Amygdala (It’s the primitive fight or flight gland in your brain that controls your thinking and behavior before your cognitive mind even gets a chance to ponder a response.)
Scary. God Help us if this evil woman gets elected. In order to prove how tough she is, she has to threaten the world. She talks about nuking a country like it is no big deal. There are innocent humans living in this country.
Hillary is a disgusting and an evil panderer. If she were to “obliterate” Iran, she would take out some 71 million civilians including: 30,000 Jews; 30,000 Zoroastrians; 400,000 Armenians, and 4 million Kurds (these are our allies in Iraq). Plus it would take a lot of nukes to do so and the resulting radiation will likely take out much of Russia; China; India; Tibet and so on. Hillary is one nut case who should get her brain examined. By the way I am a Democrat who made the mistake of voting for her in the past.
Usually a politician will refuse to comment on “hypotheticals”. Why is this question so important to answer now, especially as no one is saying that Iran has nukes now? Best case would 5 to 10 years. Besides the idea that Iran or anyone would nuke Israel is insane.
Pakistan is a MUCH greater threat than Iran.
Moongloom makes some excellent points. And even from a completely self interested American POV, the irradiated landscape of Iran would forever seal the oil under the ground. And let’s face it, if Iran did not have oil, Hilary, like the vast majority of Americans could not even pronounce its name, or find it on a map. Let alone “wipe if from the map” which Ahmadinejad never said. He said that Israel, meaning the regime would pass from the pages of history.
Let’s not forget that it was Halliburton in 1995 that sold nuclear technology to Iran.
While I believe we should play a role in defending our allies, nuclear war should be the last resort. Iran’s position with Israel has only been magnified (sound like the WMA’s in Iraq?)by the American media and politicians. The name of the game: influence the public opinion into accepting another war. Well, I for one will not be duped. Everything in this world revolves around incentives and unfortunately our elected officials are working towards their own incentives.

The UAE is in the process of being the first Arab state to develop nuclear power. Is this a threat to Israel? Are we going to threaten Abu Dhabi with “obliteration” if they make a move against Israel?
Hmm, I wonder, what Hill’s plan is for this?
