Hugh Hewitt links a 1995 profile of Obama in the Chicago Reader. It’s worth reading in full. He shares his views on black churches and the Christian Right, and he makes clear his preference for “collective action” over individualism. And at the end, after discussing his participation in Minister Farrakhan’s Million Man March:
“But cursing out white folks is not going to get the job done. Anti-Semitic and anti-Asian statements are not going to lift us up. We’ve got some hard nuts-and-bolts organizing and planning to do. We’ve got communities to build.”
It doesn’t seem like Barack had any real problem with cursing out white folks or making anti-Semitic and anti-Asian statements, it’s just not as productive as he’d like. It’s the same when he discusses the “wonderful preachers” in Chicago. “As soon as church lets out,” he says, “the energy dissipates.” You see it’s not enough to just say “God Damn America” on Sunday, you have to organize your community and get on with the damning come Monday.
Update: Since Hugh’s linked back here…in response to his question (“Did many mainstream Dems join that march?”), the short answer is no. Only two members of Congress attended, as did a couple of mayors (including Marion Barry), Rev. Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton. President Clinton gave a speech endorsing the goals of the march, but condemning its organizer.
At the time Clinton said “One million men are right to be standing up for personal responsibility, but one million men do not make right one man’s message of malice and division.” He did not refer to Farrakhan by name, but in retrospect this looks like pretty strong stuff compared to Obama’s “Anti-Semitic and anti-Asian statements are not going to lift us up.” And of course Clinton didn’t actually attend the march.

According to his federal income tax return for 2006, Obama gave the Trinity United church $22,500 in contributions. Trumpet Newsmagazine started 80s, Wright is CEO and Wright’s daughter, Jeri Wright, is the publisher. Requests for comments Obama camp of course not answered. Trumpet Nov/Dec edition, featured Louis Farrakhan, recipient of the Lifetime Achievement “Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. Trumpeter” award. Farrakhan has called Judaism a “gutter religion” and said Jews are “bloodsuckers. Many of the biased cable news pundits try to make viewers believe Obama’s speech limited damage of Wright controversy, but the general election will show voters strongly disagree, especially non-black voters. Obama refuses to explain to the public why he would have someone as such a close spiritual advisor and mentor and why he would expose two young daughters to such hatefulness against fellow Americans. The problem Wright’s comments are not theological views, but political statements. This is a serious issue for Obama in general election. As with each new utterance on the topic of Reverend Wright, Barack Obama confirms his own moral obliviousness and he seems to have disdain for those who are troubled by his own unwillingness to break with Wright, even worse Obama still insists Wright is a brilliant man, So brilliant, apparently, that he has uncovered the plot by white America to kill African Americans, so insightful to perceive the 9/11 attacks caused by American terrorism and his discerning observation Israel is a “dirty†word, and still in Obama’s eyes, Wright is brilliant. This, we are told by biased cable news pundits like CNN Obamaphiles, is not supposed to affect voters’ view of Obama’s judgment. Perhaps voters are embarrassed to tell pollsters they are privately offended. General election Republicans as well as independents and demorcrates are irked by this moral obtuseness even though media like CNN or Hardball cover it up with bogus Clinton attacks.
This is just silly – all sorts of black men joined in the million man march. That doesn’t mean he “marched with Farrakhan” – he marched in an event with hundreds of thousands of fellow black men. And what the million man march was about was the same point that most conservatives like me have been saying for years – that black men need to step up and solve their own problems instead of complaining about them. Yes, injustice exists, and it’s real and it’s not going away. But you have to rise above it and work 150% harder than the other guy in order to achieve the justice you are looking for. Being black is like being disabled in this country – you’re at a disadvantage but you can still rise above it.

What makes Obama different from other progressive politicians is that he doesn’t just want to create and support progressive programs; he wants to mobilize the people to create their own. He wants to stand politics on its head, empowering citizens by bringing together the churches and businesses and banks, scornful grandmothers and angry young. Mostly he’s running to fill a political and moral vacuum. He says he’s tired of seeing the moral fervor of black folks whipped up–at the speaker’s rostrum and from the pulpit–and then allowed to dissipate because there’s no agenda, no concrete program for change.

That’s odd: for a guy who whined about “no agenda, no concrete program for change,” Prince Charming has been rather lackadaisical regarding specifics about his own presidential agenda. From what I can tell, Obama genuinely believes “talks” and “negotiations” are not just means to ends…they’re ends in themselves.
Shucks, I may be a “typical white person,” but His Post-Racial Majesty apparently now thinks he’ll be able to govern as a “typical European politician.”
Obama is a liar, a racist and a traitor. That scumbag should be forced to resign his Senate seat.
This doesn’t surprise me. “Reverend” Wright’s rhetoric is the same as that the Nation of Islam except for token things like mentioning Christ.
And thats more reasons why we dont want or ned obama in the whitehouse he is a farakhan bootlicker and a big time supporter of the NATION OF ISLAM

wickedness in all people. and all have been wrong all of us. many of you with your degrees and your egos will never understand. You are limited and there is no growth that can happen in you.Its very hard for you to look at your self at what you have done. as it is for for all people to see who they really are. TO KNOW THYSELF.To see yourself you may have to change, we all may have to change our wrong ways. We are in the mist of one of the greatest men that have walk this earth, But because our egos will not allow us to see we lie to ourselves and not look at all the ugly things that have been done. Because you have been taught that you were better and you believe this lie. You have been made sick and now the whole world is sick. since the rest of us are so backwards.
