Mitt Romney for VP?
Posted on March 11, 2008
Well, we heard that’s who Rove would like to see McCain pick, and now we know that Mitt would love the opportunity.
“I think any Republican leader in this country would be honored to be asked to serve as the vice presidential nominee, myself included,†Romney told FOX’s Sean Hannity in a broadcast set to air tonight. “Of course this is a nation which needs strong leadership. And if the nominee of our party asked you to serve with him, anybody would be honored to receive that call … and to accept it, of course.â€â€¦
“There are really no hard feelings, I don’t think, on either side of this,†he said in the interview. “There were no pacts and so forth that make people feel like that we will never come together. Instead these campaigns are all coming together. We are supporting our nominee enthusiastically, aggressively.â€â€¦
Listening to Obama and Clinton discuss their national security credentials, Romney said, is akin to “listening to two chihuahuas argue about which is the biggest dog.â€
“When it comes to national security, John McCain is the big dog, and they are the chihuahuas,†he said.
Good stuff! Watch it on Hannity and Colmes tonight.
Fred Barnes narrows it down as well:
Fred Thompson, the ex-senator from Tennessee and now a TV actor, is also a close friend of McCain. If he’d run a more spirited presidential campaign of his own this year, he’d be the obvious pick for running mate. But his campaign was dreary and disappointing. McCain needs someone more vibrant and upbeat.
That leads to Romney. He has run a vigorous national campaign and been vetted by the press and his opponents for the Republican nomination. These are very strong pluses. A pick who produces unhelpful surprises, as Geraldine Ferraro did in 1984 (her husband’s business deals) and Dan Quayle did in 1988 (his National Guard duty), is exactly what McCain doesn’t need. Romney is a known quantity.
Romney has three other add-ons. He’s acceptable to conservatives and especially to social conservatives, who disproportionately volunteer as ground troops in Republican presidential campaigns. He’s unflappable in debates. With the downturn worsening, the economy may surpass national security as the top issue of the campaign. And after years of success as a big time player in the global economy, Romney understands how markets work. He could shore up McCain’s admitted weakness on economic issues.
Romney has allies in the Bush wing of the Republican party. President Bush favors him as McCain’s veep. Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor, preferred Romney over McCain in the primaries, but never endorsed him publicly. Karl Rove, the president’s political strategist, has hinted that he considers Romney to be McCain’s best running mate.
Eh! I’m still a Fred head, so I hope he is the pick. However, It will probably be Mitt.

While Karl Rove endorses Romney and I think he would be great …… but shouldn’t the GOP also consider Karl Rove as well……with his recent debut on TV…..his demeanor reveals that he is calm, very intelligent, confident but never arrogant and I would like to see him considered as VP.
If Mitt Romney was the VP running mate then I would definately vote for McCain. Otherwise, I don’t know who I would vote for. McCain/Romney what a great ticket that would be!!!
I think,it will be a completely wrong choice from McCain due to the no hidden ambition from this Mitt Romney, to which I think has a very radical ideas more than conservative and due to the age of McCain;definetely this country MUST NOT fall in radical hands for the sake of mankind.
Mitt Romney is the real deal and as a VP will help McCain to conform a winning formula, strong in security, capable of turning around the economy, to bring back our pride and faith in our nation.
I’m trying to imagine the thought process that goes:
Hmmm. Not sure if I like this guy as President, but he sure picked a good Vice President, so, yeah, I’ll vote for him.
I don’t see anyone switching from Hillary/Obama to McCain based upon anyone’s Vice Presidential pick.
Maybe I’m wrong.
Mitt Romney would make an excellent V.P. He also would be able to assume the presidency if necessary and lead an administration as he’s already prepared. He is very honest, honorable and very well tempered and is the adult in the room. Having a proven tract record all his life, he makes others confident in his decision making.
He could be both the VP and also concurrently be the Sec of the Treasury. He has the ambition and energy to handle both jobs easily. We need his problem solving and financial wisdom given the current economic uncertainies.
Mac’s already got reasonable positions to win the election… what he needs is a VP who will help him generate an army of volunteers who give both time and money. The right VP will help him in both time and money, without generating any unexpected surprises which divert the news from McCain. Mitt is a proven quantity with an uncanny ability to organize, who raised more money than any other Republican candidate (including McCain). He satisfies all three requirements. I’m not sure who else even gives you two. My time and Money are with Mitt… and any ticket he runs with.
Should anyone want to get Mitt Romney on the ticket with McCain, some PACs are starting to do just that. May I recommend unitethegop dot com. It involves all members in committees to unite the Republican Party.
Mitt Romney is the only choice for VP. I can’t believe that people were stupid enough to vote for McCain but if Romney is the running mate I will vote for him.
I feel that Mitt should be the choice if McCain is looking to strenghten his support from economic conservatives. he is also well known and has support from his prior run for office… he is well supported & would bring a lot to the ticket! I would not mind seeing some of the others listed in the article as VP (Especially Fred, I am a former FredHead!!!) but I do think that Mitt would make a smart pick, and would support the ticket with him as VP without regret.
McCain/Romney 08.
Only viable, landslidable team.
I will vote for McCain if he chooses Romney as his vice president. If not, I’ll be writing in Romney.
