McCain Apologizes for Bill Cunningham Using Obama’s Middle Name
Posted on February 26, 2008
The left cut McCain some slack for this, but is it worth it? I mean, what is the big deal? Obama’s middle name is Hussein isn’t it? How is it disparging to use his middle name? Is Obama ashamed of his middle name or something? Since when did middle names become off-limit?
It would be easy to feel that way…but Captain Ed explains why it would be dishonest and wrong. It isn’t using the name, its the emphasis.
The intent makes all the difference. Those emphasizing the middle name want to drive home the heritage of Obama, specifically his father. It seeks to extend the urban myth of Obama’s supposed Muslim identity. The name “Hussein” has other connotations as well, a not-so-subtle link to Saddam Hussein, one of the worst dictators in recent times.
None of this is subtle, and anyone professing innocence of these intentions are either lying to us or lying to themselves. If we need to refer to Obama, his last name will suffice, or Senator Obama, or Barack Obama. Using the full name three times in an introduction makes it quite clear that the speaker wants to invoke a less-than-intellectual response to the likely Democratic nominee.
Watch video….
Now Cunningham says he’ll go to Hillary Clinton….heh. From middle name to middle finger.

It’s a cheap shot that won’t help us win any votes in Nov. I’m glad that McCain put an end to this silly crap.
I’m glad to see Cunningham is puting his feelings ahead of what’s good for this country.
If McCain did not know what Cunningham would do when he invited him to speak and then told him to give the crowd “red meat” then he is an incompetent fool who should never become President. I am sure McCain knew that something like this would happen and hoped to use it to look good to Democrat and Independent voters.
What’s Bill Cunningham’s middle name? I’ll bet it’s Marion or Cletus or something.
I see Islam isn’t the only one with extremist. His racist innuendos with the “Hussein†rhetoric, is exactly the misguided direction and scare tactics that hasn’t worked in this election. I’m generally sad to see us loose a supporter of the RNC but best of luck to you Mr. Cunningham working on the Hillary campaign.
This is one time I can agree with McCain.
What is racist about saying Obama middle name? This country is weak and will become even weaker with Hussein. I better be careful or the PC Police will come after me.
I have watched Bill Cunningham and his shtick is to be loud and offensive. McCain should of been well aware of this when he agreed to have him speak. McCain apologizing for something that is at worst politically incorrect was absurd. McCain could have easily dealt with the issue by mentioning that at least one Great American i.e General “Omar” Nelson Bradley had a Muslim name. By his being ashamed of a Muslim name he actually insulted the Muslim community as well as conservatives.
As a Reagan conservative I am disappointed, to say the least, at Bill Cunningham’s comments. Even I clearly heard the overtones in his constant “Hussein” reference. I don’t appreciate people like Bill Cunningham acting in this manner. It hurts the party and all those who firmly believe in conservative principles. No matter what the criticism, real men like Mr. Buckley and Mr. Reagan handled the idiots like this with much more class and intelligence. Bill Cunningham does not and never will represent this conservative and the ideals I hold to be true and dear to me. As far as telling Republicans to pack in their vote and allow a Democrat into office simply because McCain isn’t “conservative” enough I say this to you Mr. Cunningham. If you continue with your pack it in tactics and a Democrat wins office, I will hold people like you, Limbaugh, and Coulter responsible for fracturing this party I admire. I will also make it my life’s mission to let others know that as well.
