I'm not "implying" anything. And indeed note that I took the fact that 8 + 8 = 16, to mean "double" of 85 was 116. Sorry. I was raised as an organic chemist. No math. Yet I notice that instead of arguing against the gist and central content of my (I feel bad about it too) argument, you make fun of my own intelligence. First off, a beer or two is needed to even make me care a wit, then a beer or two more to push me to my wit's end, so that I might comment at all.

So call me a drunk, as well as a math flunk.

Now explain away the actual data, instead of killing me the reluctant messenger of that data.

My best idea is to find out why, over the next hundred years, some skills are lacking in people who, despite "man coming out of Africa", stayed home, in Africa. Back to nature be damned, I live six blocks from Harlem, where rent is cheap, but so is life, so Harlem stays "black" day after day, week after week, year after year, and two decades of living here makes us college educated (Ph.D. in Chemistry from Columbia) types not ever move up there, for literal fear for our lives, due to the thugs who emulate rap music heroes, meaning pimps and drug dealers.

My tentative yet somewhat confident prediction is that Obama will win. Why, as a former hippie, in old age turned "conservative" (as in I like the police instead of hate them now) do I potentially celebrate this? Because he's made it on his own, and is not playing a race card, like the WHITE liberals did for so many years, year after year, creating an emasculating "welfare state" up the street from me, on the Upper West Side. Obama also doesn't lie about WHY we should give $2000 a head to everyone else outside of our country, like Al Gore did ("because the sky if falling"). He just says it. Calls it the "Global Poverty Act." That I can respect. Lies? No dice.

Christian--One standard deviation for IQ = about 15 points--the difference between the 32nd percentile and the 68th percentile. I think this is what Nik was implying.

NikFromNYC said "I was a smart kid", then:
"Blacks? 85. Northern Russian Jews? (Ashkanazi) 116. That's a factor of TWO."
So 85*2=116, very smart, indeed!

I read all the science magazines. The best is the expensive but weekly "Science News" which is only about 20 pages, but doesn't editorialize much, as in call every variation in tree growth due to faster growing trees in the Amazon, uh, growing, uh, FASTER under higher carbon dioxide fertilization than slower growing ones (so the "Sky if Falling"). No Scientific American used to be (in the late 60s and early 70s), all about physics, medicine and chemistry. It was written for an audience of OTHER scientists. It was FULL of equations, assuming one had the basics of scientific training under one's belt already. I was a smart kid. I mean really smart. I read Gregory Bateson and build models of every Bucky Fuller idea, but Scientific American was *way* over my head. Now? It's at every airport. Same with the FAKE POSTURING "more rigorous" (yet *much* more biased) 'New Scientist' magazine from England. They hate the USA. Why? Despite our own forest cover increasing 10% a decade for the last half century? Because panic sells. The former editor, just like the former co-founder of Greenpeace, bashed them like crazy for very many biases, one being "climate change" (now that it's not getting hotter, they can switch to cooling as the emergency, soon), the others being the "fat makes you fat" theory of diet that was forced on the government of the USA (FOOD PYRAMID TOLD US AS IT STILL DOES IN CONFUSCATED FORM TO? What? Pig out on bread and pasta. Guess what? Grandma was right. Pasta makes you fat. It causes insulin spikes. That makes your cells lax. Then your pancreas, controlled by your hypocampus in the brain, make more and more insulin, but then they shut down too.) Psychology too. IQ differences are still apologized for. Blacks? 85. Northern Russian Jews? (Ashkanazi) 116. That's a factor of TWO. Twice as smart. Nobel prizes? Despite Jews being 2% (somewhat thanks to Hitler) of world population? They have over 30% of Nobel Prizes.

Come on man, this new Millennium *cannot* turn into a new *politicized* bastardization of science, of "consensus" science?!

As to the first one, I'm not seeing a straw man's worth of difference between 'immediate' and 'over a few months'. If the dems had said something about an immediate start to a multi year timetable for a gradual pull out (vs. immediately starting one that would take a few months)… then yeah, they’d have an argument (a really strong one) that their views were distorted… but they didn’t…

Very good article. Scientific American has long been a shill for more government spending, and that trumps their "science" interests.
catholicfundamentalism.com often talks about the way some people and organizations twist the truth to suit their means.
It reminds us that we should understand how bad they are, and not forget to pray for their poor, lost souls.
