Fred Thompson Endorses McCain
Posted on February 9, 2008
I think it comes down to the war on terror for most of these guys. A Thompson endorsement isn’t surprising since they are old friends. It doesn’t seal the deal though. I’ll start thinking about getting off the couch when I see who McCain picks for VP.
Fred Thompson, the one-time Republican presidential candidate, endorsed Sen. John McCain Friday, calling on the party to “close ranks” behind the presumed nominee.
“This is no longer about past preferences or differences. It is about what is best for our country and for me that means that Republican should close ranks behind John McCain,” Thompson said in a statement reported by the Associated Press.
Thompson’s endorsement was expected. The two men were colleagues for years in the Senate and shared what associates called a friendship. But while he was in the race, Thompson had bristled at the idea that he was going to drop out and endorse McCain.
The endorsement now may help McCain to coalesce the factions of the party around him. Thompson, who represented Tennessee in the Senate for eight years, is thought of well in the South, an area that McCain has not done well in.
Maybe a little, but it will take giving true conservative like Thompson some cabinet positions before it is a real motivating factor.
Michelle Malkin isn’t ready to surrender. Sister Toldjah says to “open your mind”.
Conservatives’ one card left to play is whether we endorse McCain or not. Why should we show it now? If all conservatives declare unanimously against him, pledging undying hostility and staking our reputations on opposing the guy, well, he may decide (as we did with him when he and his partisans like Lindsey Graham and Juan Hernandez fumed about us) that we mean what we say.
Likewise, if we all fall into line, even grudgingly, well, we’re taken for granted…But if we keep our cards close to our chest, McCain still has to work for our vote. He can’t take us for granted and he dare not alienate us any more…
…Just to clarify, I’m not telling you whether to vote for him or not. I see the arguments on both sides. My point is that whether you wouldn’t vote for McCain if he was the last Republican on earth, or if you’ll probably just pinch your nose and pull the handle anyway, or whether you’re genuinely undecided, it’s in the interest of conservatives everywhere to act as if you could possibly be won over by credible and verifiable movement to the right on McCain’s part…Oh, and when pollsters ask you who you’re voting for, tell them you’re undecided.

Now if McCain would pick Thompson for VP, that would make me feel better.
Pray for a “Damascas road conversion” for Juan MexiCain…
Am I missing something here? What do all these Republican-oriented political posts have to do with Stopping The ACLU?
Answer: Not a GD<[edited] thing.
If you want to make a political statement that has directly to do with the ACLU, start posting on that muslim, Obama. If he gets in, the ACLU will have a field day in our court system, winning case after case.
Thompson is just who I always thought he was. No surprise for me , that is why I never gave him the time of day.
