I truly believe that Hunter wanted to endorse Thompson, but knew that he too was going to withdraw his bid. Looking at the alternatives, Huckabee is the only logical choice for Hunter to endorse. McCain is big on amnesty and that just doesn't fly with Hunter. Romney is an anti-war advocate and Hunter is for completing the job. As far as Giuliani, it is obvious why Hunter wouldn't endorse him. So, basically Hunter endorsed Huckabee because he was the last option.

Actually Huckabee is not the most liberal Republican. On social issue all the candidates are left of him. McCaine and Romney both back killing human being in the name of medical research while Ron Paul is a libertarian. On economic issue Ronmey suggested a large bailout of automakers which is a very liberal idea and McCaine has his own problems. Ron Paul is probably more economic conservative that everyone else but his lack of social conservative credentials may alienate Hunter.

Excuse me, Duncan Hunter gets conned by no one. If he's endorsing Huck, then he has good reasons. Hunter is very wary of foreign interests influencing U.S. policy and media. Don't drink the Kool-Aid until you check the facts about Huckabee.

Makes perfect sense. If people would actually take time to go back and look at Huckabee's record in Arkansas (the Democrats fought him every step of the way) they might be surprised. Limbaugh and company are just plain wrong on this one. Huckabee's "Tax Me More" fund in Arkansas was just one way he fought taxes and made Democrats look a little foolish. In all the years the fund was open, they got just a few thousand dollars in the account. Huckabee made his point. He also made the Democrat tax and spenders a little angry. They didn't like him. And now our conservative talk show hosts are trying paint Huckabee as a liberal? It boggles the mind.

Hunter's endorsement of Elmer Gantry reveals one thing to me anyway, Hunter has instincts for poor judgment.
But let's face it he showed that when he called that fake news conference and whined about not getting adequate press coverage.
Duncan you done been conned by the Huckster.

Well Duncan Hunter is very pro-life.

Rudy is a no go on this despite promises.

Romney and McCain support embryonic stem-cell research in some circumstances.

Ron Paul is very pro-life, but problematic on other issues.

So the only fully pro-life candidate left is Huckabee and maybe he hopes he is moving in the right direction on the issues of immigration and foreign policy. If we had a good slate of conservatives who are social, fiscal, and small government conservatives with some foreign policy common sense instead of a group that are plus and minuses in this areas we wouldn't have this problem. But then again this is how it pretty much always has been.

None of these endorsements has made political sense to me since Tommy Thompson's endorsement of Rudy Giuliani (one liberal endorsing another). That having been said, there are a couple of items that move this one out of the Whiskey Tango Foxtrot category and into the Whiskey Tango Hotel one:

- Hunter and Huckabee share a love of the "Fair"Tax.
- They are both Southern Baptists.

It's not going to help anyway; about the only thing that Huckabee is going to gain is Hunter's single delegate.
