PUT UP OR SHUT UP, FREDHEADS!

So says Bob Krumm, who issues this challenge;

After I wrote my post-mortem on the Fred Thompson campaign yesterday I was chastised by more than one person for performing an autopsy on the living.

I wish I believed that. Believe me, nothing would make me happier than to be proven wrong. But before you throw stones at me for pointing out what I believe to be a rather obvious truth, tell me, what have you done to support Fred?

If you want Fred to stay in the race you have to pay for it. Talk is cheap. I’ll pledge $1,000 of my own if Fred can raise $1 million today. Ron Paul raised that much yesterday and he had just one-fourth the support that Fred did in South Carolina. So surely, there are enough Fredheads out there to scratch together a paltry million bucks.

Here’s your chance to tell Fred to stay in the race. Put up or shut up.

How the heck would Krumm know that it was raised or not?

  2. Thomas J. on January 22nd, 2008 1:54 pm

Naa, whatever happens happens. If you look at the big picture, all the Republican candidates are pretty much the same (exept Ron Paul). So unless your a Ron Paul fan, you’ll probably be OK with whoever turns out to be the Republican candidate.

Just curious, have you had any takers? I, like you, will be disappointed if Fred leaves the race. Fred is my second choice to Paul. If Paul looked like he wasnt going to take it, there is/was a lot of Fred support in the Paul ranks, no one else is even CLOSE to conservative. Paul actually raised $1.85 million yesterday and that wasnt even that good. Fred has more media and certainly has a celebrity fanbase that he should be able to draw money from. Fred should ASK for cash, its not unheard of, everyone knows these campaigns are extremely costly. I could be happy losing all of the others and having Fred and Paul go head to head for the nom. At least America would get to see that there really IS a difference between the Reps and Dems. Well see I guess. Cheers

That’s where you’re wrong thomas j….I (and many many others I know) will NOT vote for rudy, mccain or huck, and romney is seriously doubtful.

It’s either a real conservative or let the left have it….if we’re gonna hand teh country over to statists and socialists God PLEASE let that person have a D after their name.

  5. Thomas J. on January 22nd, 2008 2:05 pm

Yes, I guess your right Kender. At least I hope you are.

  6. Dan Warner on January 22nd, 2008 2:14 pm

Fred should drop out, endorse Ron Paul and then moderate his message to be Ron’s running mate. This would make lots of us happy because Fred at least seems to have some comprehension of the constitution and federalism. Even Fred must know that we can’t fix the economy without cutting overseas spending.

  7. kender on January 22nd, 2008 2:16 pm

Would a Ron Paul backer answer this?

If Paul and Fred aren’t running, who are you willing to support?

  8. David Gebhardt on January 22nd, 2008 2:21 pm

    To reply to Kender:

I hate to answer a question with a question, but is there another conservative running? If not, I will either stay home or write in Ron Paul.

  9. ciborium on January 22nd, 2008 2:22 pm

IF neither Paul nor Thompson are on the GE ballot, I know that a great many RP supporters, I for one, will either write in Ron Paul or otherwise not vote for either the R or the D.

  10. directorny on January 22nd, 2008 2:23 pm

If Paul and Fred aren’t running, who are you willing to support?

Paul will not stop running until he reaches the front steps of the white house. Whatever it takes. We will fund him until he gets there. republican or third party.

  11. Jeff Molby on January 22nd, 2008 2:24 pm

If Paul and Fred aren’t running, who are you willing to support?

Third Party for me. Everyone else would follow suit, write in, or stay home.

From our perspective, the rest of the candidates are atrocious. Yes, I can safely speak for all of my peers on that one.

  12. bk4rp on January 22nd, 2008 2:36 pm

    RE: Kender:

I myself am a RP supporter and have been out canvassing as well as doing other things to support the campaign in FL.

As for your question: i would write him in during the primaries. I do not like any of the other candidates. If he were to run third party, i would again, vote for him. If he were to drop out and not run third party there would be a choice that would have to be made based on the final two.

    Mccain vs Hillary – Hillary
    Mccain vs Barack(sp?) – Barack

    Romney vs Hillary: Romney
    Romney vs Barack: Barack

I would never ever vote for huck or judy, i consider them bush V2.

  13. Bdubya on January 22nd, 2008 2:37 pm

    Hey Kender,
If you haven’t heard yet, Fred has dropped out. He was my only second choice to Ron Paul. So that being known, I guess I would have to go Third-Party, no Bloomberg, probably the Libertarian, or even Green candidate.

  14. Dw on January 22nd, 2008 2:45 pm

Would a Ron Paul backer answer this?

f Paul and Fred aren’t running, who are you willing to support?

Lender that is a real tough one, and I just came back here after hearing the news that Fred is going to leave. Bad news.

Romney would be the only consideration, but man,how can we trust that guy?

I dont know, this is a bad deal. Icant STAND any of the Dems. God, please save us from these people. Paul has a good shot but he isnt the perfect candidate. We need someone with his values, integrity, and record that is a little younger and has a little more presence. I dont like the idea of not voting, but its slim pickins out there.

  15. bucko158 on January 22nd, 2008 3:18 pm

Now that Fred is out. I was a fred drafter. I hope his support goes to Ron Paul. I will vote for Paul in PA. I don’t like Rudy on the social issues and the rest are really big spending DEMs in GOP clothing.

  16. Jeffrey on January 22nd, 2008 3:55 pm

As a Ron Paul supporter, to answer Dw, I like Kucinich and Richardson. Kucinich has a very similar foreign policy plan to Paul. Richardson, I feel also has some great ideas. However, they’re both faring poorly at the moment. Hilary and Obama both approved Bush’s blank check for Iraq. They would only spend more money that taxpayers cannot afford. I’d probably give my vote to a 3rd party, since none of the media’s front runners have earned my vote.

  17. Kevin Houston on January 22nd, 2008 5:51 pm

It seems all my second choices have dropped out.

I supported Dr. Paul from the beginning, but I could have been happy with (from most acceptable to least):

Gov. Gilmore (can’t think of his first name … Charlie?)
Duncan Hunter (sure, he’s corrupt, but other than that, a good conservative.)
Fred Thompson (but would he really do what he said, or was it just happy-talk)
Tom Tancredo (wasn’t too happy about the anti-LEGAL immigrant rants, but other than that, pretty good conservative.)

People I could not possibly vote for (from most odious to least – both parties):

    Hillary Clinton
    John Edwards
    John McCain
    Mitt Romney
    Mike Huckabee
    Barack Obama
    Rudy Giuliani

Strange as it may seem for a Ron Paul supporter, Rudy would be the least objectionable candidate left. I guess that says something about the quality (or lack thereof) of the other candidates…

If Ron Paul drops out, I guess I will have to vote third party.

Warning – Opinions and/or ideas follow.

    Hello all,
I saw the “Fredhead” descriptor/label and thought to criticize the demeaning element inherent in its usage. Let’s be a bit more intelligent and sympathetic with our labeling until we can rid ourselves of the habit altogether.

Nonetheless, I’m happy to have “happened by” since thus far many seem to be rather polite and forthcoming with their views.
I will be as honestly forthcoming as some of those before me.

I’m going to vote for Congressman Paul for some of the reasons I’ve read here. Additionally, I (sometimes) have this annoying habit of reading and learning from various sources (and weighing their relative importance/significance, etc, etc). And sometimes I let my “new knowledge” (current elucidation) affect my opinons.

    “Nuff said.”

Like Kevin Houston, Jim Gilmore (former Governor of Virgina) seemed promising to me but dropped out very early in the campaign. For Kevin and others keen on Mr. Gilmore, the former Governor implied (when I expressed my disappointment) that I shouldn’t count him out for another run in the near future. And, by the by, I’m just a “regular person” who happened to take the oportunity to talk to the man at a straw poll in Virginia.

If you folks are looking for a “conservative” this time around and thinking about the “top tier” candidates, I worry about your hindsight. Really. If you still think that the Bush/Cheney team is actually conservative I can’t help you out (nor would I waste my time trying).
With Senator Thompson (admittedly one of the few perceived “real conservatives”) now out of the race, some of you must be at a level of cognitive dissonance that I can’t relate to (at least regarding politics).

Who’s left and what are you to do?

Research on your own perhaps? Ease that mind funk and discount my admitted support of one of the remaining candidates. The one ostracized by those with (just possibly) more wealth and power than you’ll ever possess?

Will you continue to support false conservatives until Governor Gilmore runs again?

Will you vote “Democrat, Independent,” etc.?

    Why or why not?

  19. Basil on January 22nd, 2008 10:14 pm

    So, “Fredhead” is demeaning?

    Funny, I don’t feel demeaned.
