ESPN’s Dana Jacobson’s Drunken Rant: ‘F**K Jesus’
Posted on January 20, 2008
Update: Suspended for one week. Enough?
Back on January 12th, the pressofatlanticcity.com reported on the aftermath of an event sponsored by ESPN morning talkers “Mike & Mike” in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The event, an 8th anniversary celebration in a roast style comedy show of the two hosts, Mike Golic and Mike Greenburg, was deemed “too long and uneven” by staff writer Scott Cronick, but the interesting thing is what he apparently left out about the drunken appearance by ESPN’s Dana Jacobson. It seems Jacobson was so drunk that her “comedy routine” included the always funny “f**k Jesus” but the press isn’t saying a word about this outrageous gaff.
The pressofatlanticcity.com reports that Jacobson was so drunk she was booed off the stage.
ESPN anchor Dana Jacobson made an absolute fool of herself, swilling vodka from a Belvedere bottle, mumbling along and cursing like a sailor as Mike & Mike rested their heads in their hands in embarrassment. (Comedian Eddie) Griffin came to the podium to defend her after she was booed by the crowd. Ross eventually had to pull her off stage, too.
Sounds embarrassing, of course. But what wasn’t reported is what Jacobson said to get “booed by the crowd.”
According to a report by someone in attendance at the event, Dana Jacobson said the following:
“f**k Notre dame” Â
“f**k touchdown Jesus” Â
and – the step-aside-because-lightning-is-about-to-strike… “f**k Jesus.”
So, one has to wonder why it is that she has been let off the hook by the media for saying “f**k Jesus” and for her otherwise drunken appearance? Let’s keep an eye on this to see if her anti-Christian rant becomes even more of an embarrassment for her, but since she attacked Jesus, it is quite doubtful that it will.
Most likely, she will be given a pass. After all, it’s not like she said f**k Allah, or f**k Jesse Jackson, right? After all, we should be used to the double standard that christians are OK to attack, I suppose.

That doesn’t suprise me really. All she’s saying is what most Liberal Jews think. Plus it really was a Anti-Catholic rant, sense Mike Golic went to God’s University (Notre Dame)
Yes my evangelical friends, there are some Jewish folks out there who don’t like you.
It really dosen’t surprise me. Catholics/Christians have been taking these shots for century’s with no one to stnad up and say enough is enough. I beleive for the most part Christians/Catholics respect others religious choices but it never seems to be that way from other religious factions. We as Christians/Catholics always take it in stride and forgive there ignorance and hatered. They all could take a lesson from us.
Are you kidding me? Have you heard the homophobic, racist, intolerant crap that is spouted any roast? I heard Jeff Ross – at the Emmitt Smith roast – call Shaq a “gorilla,” and say that watching him play basketball is “like watching a retard f*ck.” I heard Lisa Lampanelli call some of the black women in attendance at the Flavor Flav roast “nappy headed hos.” I can’t tell you how many times the “n” word was used at that one – by whites and blacks alike. Not to mention not-so-clever watermelon and abortion jokes by Carrot Top. It’s a ROAST, people. Participants are encouraged to say the most vile and offensive things they can think of. If Jacobson made the statements in question – who cares? It’s not like she said at a correspondent’s dinner.
I must agree with Paul here. Although, I don’t believe in political correctiveness as the ACLU would advocate i.e. not pointing out flaws of Jews, Muslims, Atheists, Darwinists, Communists, etc… Mexican’s, Black’s, Mid-Eastern’s, and all non-caucation’s, gay’s, lesbian’s, and all other non-heterosexual’s, abuser’s of system’s such as welfare, tax evasion, and affirmative action.
I believe that in our nation it has become only acceptable to rip on caucation’s, educated black’s (uncle tom’s), Christian’s/Catholic’s, capitalist’s, proffessional’s, and those with any morality or character, and most yet sadly anyone who shows a shred of patriotism.
The funny thing is, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Those who are fighting and have fought for our nation, have fought and died for all of these rights. Although I feel that we (Christian, conservative, responsible, successful, patriotic, American’s) mostly and I say mostly have taken the high road in the past. I still believe we live in the most incredible, socioeconomical, free yet sometimes too free nation.
As a Catholic conservative I don’t take offense to her comment’s because I am taught not to do so. That being said, the fact that Mike Greenberg
( someone whom I respect as a sport reporter and a Jew) reportadely put his face into his hands should say all that needs to be said. As a caucaton, republican, conservative I have learned as much if not more about my political parties actual views from a recent C-span special which presented the issues facing the black-republican party which has always chosen to take the high road among all public scrutiny i.e. just about everything.
As the aformentioned chose to do so, I will also take the high road in this incident. She is obviously ignorent and I have chosen to pray for those who are as such. Should she be fired, the answer is no, as long as the political correctiveness in this country closes the gap. Honestly, I feel she will be more humiliated by allowing her to keep her job and face public scruitiny than to be fired and become some kind of marter.
Dana is lucky that she wasn’t drunk enough to say that about Mohammed. She would be in police protection right now and ESPN would be apologizing 24/7. I believe in free speech, however I am offended by what she said because I am a Christian. I hope she apologizes out of regret instead of pressure.
People, its a f*$king rast. You dont have a right to not be offended. Get over it and move on with yourself. She was wasted and it was a joke. She went to Michigan so she has a rivalry against ND. I am sure she doesnt hate Mike&Mike at all. I am sure they are friends so dont take what she said so personal and offensive.
Let’s not forget the fact that she will get a pass because she is a WOMAN. I don’t know- it seems like there is an epidemic with female sports tv personalities saying some offensive remarks.
Regular Ron is an idiot. He’s projecting his own hate for Jews, saying that Jews don’t like Jesus or Christians. If this moron would think about it, Judaism is a religion that’s DIFFERENT than Christianity so they don’t worship Jesus, not hate him. Wake up you dumb, ignorant, hate-filled [edited]. How would you even know how Jews think? Did you read that in your newest neo-Nazi pamphlet? You’re an idiot. Now let’s get this straight. Should she be suspended? Yes. Should she be fired? No. It was a roast! The point is to offend. ESPN just doesn’t have the balls or the brains to pull it off right. Hire comics like Ross, not athletes like Portis or Ed Reed to make jokes. I’ve been to many roasts at The Friar’s Club here in NY and trust me, much worse is said- by Jews and non-Jews alike.
Its always nice to see people over react to a bad joke. maybe you should start a holy war. there’s an old addage about sticks and stones, but im sure thats lost on you catholic types. so how about what would jesus do, my guess would be say something along the lines of “let he who is without sin cast the first stone”
I am Catholic and I went to school in South Bend. The bashing is constant, so I am used to it. Is it offensive? Sure, but that is her problem. She has to live with acting like a disrepectful low life, and embarassing herself and UM. Roast or not, have some class. I am mortified for her — not sure how she showed up for work after that cringefest.
Some of you on here prove what idiots you really are – so, because its a roast, she is entitled to offend millions of people while representing ESPN at a public function? The intention of a roast is to insult those being honored – I get the Notre Dame and even the Touchdown Jesus part but what does her comment about Jesus have to do with Mike & Mike? She should be fired for showing her A$$ like that and my guess is the uproar that is soon to follow will cost her the job – good riddance
Seriously, who cares. Jesus would forgive her and I do to. We’re becoming so pathetic with all this. She was drunk. It was a roast. What somebody says in that situation does not really bother me.
I have a lot to say about this. A chunk of which can be read at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J5amrjm_sHE
under the name stlguy83.
But to Pauls comment. Are you seriously that daft and ignorant. Do you mean to imply that the Christians have had it so hard while the other religions just skated by.
I am not a religious person, but I can tell you right now that the Jewish people have had it MUCH worse than you historically. In fact Catholics/Christioans have it probably had it the best. Usually they are the oppressors ad persecutors.
You say that you guys respect others religious choices and take things in stride, huh. Really? Really? is that why the most prolific missionaries have always been C/C. And by missionary I’m refering to both those who go to educate other people and the amazingly large number of people throughout history have gone to other countries and forced the religion on people through violence and extortion. But yeah, the christians had it much worse than the Jews. Real quick, what was their equivilant of the holocaust or being enslaved by the Pharoh
Lastly, it always bugs the hell out of me when religious people say stupid s**t like this. They have based their life around some sort of judgement. They are usually at the forefront of judging other people for their actions. But the second anyone says anything about religion (serious are not), all of a sudden they are horrible people. If you are going to judge, be strong enough to be judged.
You think you have a right b/c my actions go against your religious ways. Well I have news for you, I live my life largely by the religious views of common sense. Your “religious actions” often go against my “religion”. Why are you automatically right? Because at some point you decided to posit a God you have no proof of at the top of the hierarchy of values you made?
It’s always been my experience that Christians can’t take jokes very well. Most of these responses seem to pretend Christians are often mocked–I can’t remember the last Christian joke I’ve heard. It was obviously an alcohol-induced remark and not at all appropriate. This isn’t the same as the Imus situation, not one bit. People choose to be Christians. The women at Rutgers did not choose to be black. She mocked a belief, not a human being.
“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for it is the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.” Matthew 5:11-12. The Beattitudes is sometimes referred to as the penultimate sermon/teaching by Jesus. While I do not think Dana Jacobs was intending to insult Jesus or Christians so much as she was trying to bust Mike Golic’s chops given his obvious ND connections….but her words were still curt, rude, offensive, and demeaning (certainly in tone if nothing else). End of day….they are only words that do not change my life as a christian, and do not dimish Jesus’ sacrifice in the slightest.
Why do all religions deserve respect?
It is a roast people! If you are offended by these types of events I suggest you stay away from them because they are meant to be demeaning, humulating and embarrasing. It is not just sports, either. If you don’t like porno, don’t go to into adult video stores. Watch a David Chapell show or a Hugley HBO special. If you are white, you better have a good sense of humor! If you can’t stand stuff like that, don’t watch it.
I’m an Atheist and I would never say that stuff. That’s just way over the line.
Got a Q. Why do you guys keep bringing up how people get more chastised when bad things are said about other religions/races? Could it be because they are minorities and have in the past had to suffer great amounts of oppression and demeaning. Christianity has held so much power and been in the majority for so long that its hard to defame or hurt it, no matter what you do (Even though many priests have tried).
You ever heard a white guy in america weeping b/c he has been referred to as cracker, or any racial slur? No. So why don’t you stop crying about how people can talk trash about Christianity and get away with it, just b/c Christians have had it so good. The reason we chastise people for those comments is because we want to prevent them from being oppressed and disadvantaged. Is this realy a problem Christians face
How about this, you can make a trade, you Christians will become a minority, a focus of oppression, ridicule, and injustice. Christian people will have to suffer a great deal just to get they’re opinion recognized and voice heard. All the power they have gotten throughout the world for centuries will be eradicated. BUT…. people will be chastised, repremanded and possibly much worse if they say anything about you.
And while we’re at it, let’s round up all the minority comedians who have made a “White people walk like this…” joke
QUIT CRYING LIKE BABIES B/C YOU CAN’T HAVE YOUR CAKE AND EAT IT TOO
Bottom line is exactly what was stated above….if she would’ve said “F— Mohammed” or “F— homosexuals” or something else, she’d be waiting in court on charges of a HATE CRIME. But since it’s Jesus, it’s a-ok! Aw, c’mon Jesus, it’s just a joke! .
I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.
People relax, it was a roast. I’m a Catholic and I was not offended.
Personaly, I’m not offended but Dana should get fired for her comments. She had to know this was going to public. ESPN will take a huge public hit if they do not hire Dana for her comments.
Jesus……
sticks and stones may break my bones, but words
will never hurt me.
Do as I do, Do as I say, you heathens..
that’s why you’re still down there and I’m up here!
Jimmy “The Greek” Snyder got fired and his career killed over anti-black comments and Mel Gibson got publicly pilloried for his drunken anti-semitic outburst.
And let’s not forget about what happened to Don Imus and Rush Limbaugh.
But Dana Jacobson spouts out drunken anti-Jesus and anti-Christian remarks in a public forum, while representing ESPN, and she gets support from ESPN and a week off? Gimme a break.
ESPN shows itself to be just as anti-Christian as the rest of the MSN
If an Irish Catholic media member went on a publicly heard anti-jewish rant they would be summarily dismissed and permanently barred from further employment. This double standard is wrong and Ms. Jacobson must be terminated immediately.
This one is not going away and the 2% of the population that controls the media better realize it.
I am sick of f___ being broadcast non-stop. Don’t people know any more adverbs, adjectives, nouns and verbs?
If I subscribed to ESPN, I would cancel. That is the best way to protest what broadcasters do.
I agree with Dave that Matt 5:11,12 applies here, but it does not say keep paying money to hear that trash.
I also agree that if she had said Allah instead of Jesus, she would be running for her life now, so I quess she wasn’t all THAT drunk.
Now just imagine the outcry if she said something like that about Mohammed, Karl Marx the darling of the Democrats, Jessie Jackson or Al Sharpton the leftist spiritual leaders?
Why she would not only have been fired, she would have the Islamic extremist putting a price or her head. But Jesus?, Jesus, what you expect the Pravda press and left loving tv and radio media to denounce her?
Theres a day coming when “Every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord” but until that day comes its “at the name of Jesus, every Liberal Leftist, every news media commentator shall raging and shake their fist, and scream in fury”
what is a caucation
You are all right she should have taken into account that this world is filled with sensitive whiney B*TCHES like yourself, who think someone’s livelihood shuld be taken from them b/c of a comment like this made by someone in a context that begs for it. We all forget how many of you are out there sometimes. Yet we need only to hear your incessant cries about something that in no way actually adversely affected you to be reminded.
She didn’t say anything bad about jesus or about christianity. It was an inappropriate comment, but Christianity or Jesus was in no way attacked. She didn’t even express an adverse opinion about Chritianity. There was no rant. What if she said “Forget Jesus,” then what. It has the same meaning just a different tone. Would you all still be waiting for the Whaaaambulance while eating your whaaaamburgers and fries.
You want to ruin a persons career and livelihood just b/c she said something that didn’t even defame Christianity. JESUS WOULD BE PROUD OF YOU
this godess has those big teeth when she smile.watch out guys..!
So the issue was a Jesus reference? And the first writer reply wants to imply “liberal Jews don’t like Jesus?” What? Helloooo incredibly uninformed person; Jews simply don’t acknowledge Jesus as mesiah; they would have no reason to comment, care, like or dislike. Ms. Jacobsons comment was stupid and offensive, and I support a suspension. Seeing the ignorace crawl out of the woodwork in response is not very reassuring. Jacobson was stupid in what she said. If it reflects her true feelings, yeah she does not belong on the air. Is the implication that she is Jewish, and it was a Jewish “thing”. If so, the respondent is even more ignorant than the original comment. Hard to imagine, but his words speak for themselves. Boy, does hiding behind the bible make fools of us al.
TO HEAR SOMEONE MAKE A COMMENT ABOUT MY SAVIOR LIKE SHE DID MAKES ME ANGRY. WHEN JOHN LENNON OF THE BEATLES SAID AND I QUOTE ” THE BEATLES ARE BIGGER THAN GOD” WHAT HAPPEND TO JOHN..THERE ARE SO MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE USED HIS NAME IN VAIN. DONT SCREW WITH JESUS WHEN THIS STUPID WOMAN SUDDENDLY DEVELOPS CANCER OR LOSES SOMEONE SHE REALLY CARES ABOUT THEN “WHOM WILL SHE TURN TO THEN HUH??
THE BOTTLE OF VODKA?? YEA RIGHT, BUT IM NOT SUPRISED IN WHAT SHE DID THIS COUNTRY IS RIDING SATANS COAT TAILS ITS NOT NEW. PEOPLE ARE FREE TO SAY WHAT THEY WANT. UNTIL…..
OUR KING COMES BACK TO HAVE THE LAST SAY! MY MESSAGE TO THE IDIOTS WHO CONDONE THIS CRAP YOUR TURN IS COMMING
writing in all caps is the most irriating thing on the internet…you completely discredited yourself sesario, no one wants to read your screaming all big letter, moron
To those of you who claim it’s a ROAST
and that anything goes, please let me
disabuse you of the notion that Dana
Jacobson was entitled to say F***
Jesus or even the other F***.
Don Imus got F-I-R-E-D for three words:
“Nappy-Headed ‘Hos.”
Which is the greater offense? To me,
both are offensive.
In just a handful of words, Dana
Jacobson did for Judaeo-Christian
relations what Barry Bonds did for
player-media relations.
Anthony (poster #29), reading is a
skill.
You say “F*** Jesus” didn’t even defame
Christianity? What neanderthal values
system do you come from?
“Someone’s career…”
Hey, geniac, tell that to the relatives
of the late “Jimmy the Greek,” who
was at least as in-his-cups as Mmle.
Jacobson was. He got fired for making
generalizations about black athletes
to a local T.V. sports guy in a D.C.
restaurant. Al Campanis, who did more
for civil rights as a pioneer advocate
of African-American players for the
BROOKLYN Dodgers, gets fired because
he made some unfortunate remarks to
Ted Koppel re: Blacks’ qualifications
to be managers.
Then you think, somehow, Mmle.
Jacobson has achieved Mother Theresa-
hood? Or better, is a modern day
St. Joan of Arc?
Please. Someone needs a timeout.

Wow i mean Jesus only went to the cross was whipped, beaten spat on cursed at NOT FOR HIMSELF BUT TO DIE SO THAT WE COULD LIVE. And the thanks is to look down and watch Dana Jacobsen say F-Him. The alcohol only revealed the real Dana as it does with anyone else who drinks it relaxes the inhibiton to say or do what we normally are to scared to do. I mean that is why some people drink to relax and get into a more relaxed mood. Being fired is the least of her concerns(although she desrves it) Blashemy. I am a Christian and I believe in God,but man even if I didnt that i a big price to pay if i wasnt sure if there was a God or a heaven or hell.If you are wrong on your belief their is no turning back
Yeah, she may have made a liberal jew comment and she may have said some things that she has the right to say. But she is a public figure, she is on the leading sports show in all of the world. She just can’t take shots backstage, share jesus jokes with eddie griffin and go on national t.v and repeat them and expect to be let off easy. Save it for the green room next time Dana. Jesus wouldn’t say “F*CK DANA”, respect who respects you.
…and I stayed up late for this?!!
“Deet Didee!!
There is a double standard. Jesus forgives her for saying those words. Others don’t. Christians should be jumping at the chance to forgive her and show her Christ’s love not punish her for a moment of drunken foolishness. Come on Christians, let’s start acting like Christ!
JACOBSON:NO NEWS
WHAT HAPPEN TO THE IRAQ WAR. THE CRAZY PRESIDENT AND HIS CROONIES.
GET A LIFE, IT WAS A ROAST. PEOPLE NEED TO GET A LIFE. I MEAN NO ONE IS PERFECT AND THAT INCLUDES ALL OF YOU. HOW MANY TIMES DO WE NEED TO LISTEN TO ALL THESE JOHNNY BE GOODS. TAKE CARE OF YOUR OWN SH*T.
People……read the updated reports…..she NEVER said F___ Jesus!!!
She said F____ Touchdown Jesus…a direct reference to ND & their horrible football team……are you people nuts!?!!?
Yes, jews mock jesus. You have waited thousands of years for your savior. He is coming…..Don’t worry…..Keep your eyes on outer space.
People! That is not a joke! It is a slap in the face. Would it be funny to say f___ your mother? Only if you couldn’t stand her, which makes my point. Only a person with utter disdain for Christianity could use those words. Regardless of what ESPN, she should admit it was disrespectful and classless – then apologize. If she doesn’t – it just confirms she is a religious biget.
do any of you catholic/christian/all other religion derived from judaism have any idea what its like at all to be a jew? i litterally hear a new form of anti-semitism every day through media. no one hates you, we just look at things from a more logical perspective, like jesus was just a cult leader but sucessful, and we dont hate goyim, we just hate people who believe that their religion is the only right one and they need to tell everyone else how wrong they are, we call it the recruitment, have you ever heard the adage that smart people never tell people they are smart or really rich people never talk about money, well the same can be said when talking about religion when the facts and the way the world is in real life points in every aspect to the fact that jesus was just a jew, who had a father(not g-d), and he was a heretic, and he is no more magic than anyone else, sucks to hear but its the truth, and why when one jewish person makes some type of error is it “oh, all those rotten jews, they hate everyone else, and they steal all our money” isn’t it more like a quadruple standard than anything else, and i guarantee you if you talk to a jew, theres a 70% chance or greater that you will see we are not even religious, its like saying all people with a commonality are looped together, itd be like saying all people from the south dumb because some from there are dumb, or that every arab is a terrorist, get an education people, its the one thing jewish families promote more than anything else and the rest of you wonder why on a percentage basis jews as a people hold thousands of percents more wealth than others, while danas comments were inappropriate for sure, i believe it is the manifestation of the frustration that a lot of jews feel living in a world, especially sports where people who work hard in order to get what they do, go ahead and thank an entity as if they had been posessed while running the ball for a touchdown or while making a catch, why just for those special few? does jesus play favorites, thatd be dissapointing huh?
I’m sick and tired of my race and my faith being under constant attack. I’m especially troubled at the fact that they’ve got us so scared of being called “insensitive” or the dreaded “racist” that we won’t even stand up for our core beliefs. Our Jewish-controlled media pumps Anti-Christian/Anti-White PROPOGANDA into heads and homes 24 hours a day. American history is being re-written. Pride and patriotism are being replaced with shame and guilt. Christianity is under constant attack. Say what you want about Jesus, but utter one negative word about a Jew and you become the target of worldwide media scrutiny(Mel Gibson, for example). It is absolutely insane for us to stand by like zombies and allow a tiny percentage of the population excercise a hugely disproportional amount of control over the majority. But since we are speaking freely, I’ll take a page out of Dana’s book- f*ck Jewish media dominance.
I wanted to show support for Dana Jacobson. I am a Catholic and a Notre Dame supporter and you might think I was offended by Dana’s comments at the recent roast of Mike and Mike. However, knowing very well the tenor of celebrity roasts, this is perfectly acceptable. It is obvious that these comments were made in jest and met the over the top standards of a celebrity roast. If people had seen the celebrity roasts of other guests over the past decades they would understand that one of the objectives is to verbally trash all things associated with the guests in such an over the top manner that it is absurd to think that these are the true feelings of the speakers.
While these comments will be considered offensive to some, as they would be to me if taken alone, considering the circumstances most including good Christians should show forgiveness. Although over the top, just like South Park, The Family Guy, and the Hustler comic of Jerry Falwell that was upheld by the Supreme Court, these comments are meant to be taken with a grain of salt. If these comments were made over the phone, on the street, or even in a back room at ESPN, I could understand the outrage. But these types of comments are not only acceptable but expected at a celebrity roast.
I think Dana is a Professional and deserves the respect and understanding that her comments were not an accurate view of her opinion of Jesus, the Catholic Church, or Notre Dame but rather an over the top, but expected, poke at the guests of a celebrity roast.
i wish the half of you all who write in knew how to spell!
fire her for being stupid enough to get drunk and trash a well known school without being funny. and GOD, no less. I agree with Seinfeld that you lose the joke when you try to be funny with 4 letter words.
the Jesus stuff is abit extreme.
that’s like insulting Dean Smith.
you can say that about Coach K, but not Dean Smith.
She certainly didn’t act like a professional. She was classless and trying WAY too hard to be one of the guys. Swigging from a bottle, swearing like a sailor etc., Come on. I am no prude and understand the premise of a roast, but she was a complete embarassment. We all make mistakes but she has lost all credibility.
“Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging; and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise”…Prov. 20:1
‘For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus…Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time….
II Timothy 2:5,6
‘And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit’..Ephesians 5:18
‘But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done; and there is no respect of persons’…Colossions 3:25
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life…For God sent not His son to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved….He that believeth on him is not condemned, but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God….And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil…..John 3:16-19
I was sickened when I saw this. I am tired of Christians being one of the only groups it is “OK” to denigrate. If she had made the remark about any other religeous leader, she would have been reprimanded. Had she made a comment about any other segment of society, there would have been major consequences. She (or you) don’t have to love, like, appreciate, understand or be Christians, but you (like I) have to respect them as you want to be respected. Isn’t that the true meaning of political correctness?
Give me a flipping break!!! I am so completely sick and tired of the P.C. world we live in. Does anyone even know what the purpose of a “roast” is. You take every little mistake and shortcoming or thing dear to a person and attack if for laughs. Some jokes are funny and some are not but the point is to be NON-P.C. and as irrevrant as possible. I am not that old but I remember old videos of the roasts that took place at the Friar’s Club. Guys like Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and others were roasted and NOTHING about those roasts was P.C. and NO ONE was forced to apologize when they were done. Notre Dame was attacked because Golic makes his love for the school clear on the show. So what! That’s the point. I watched the show, thought it was great and no one should have had to apologize. Lighten up. ESPN, you should be ashamed of yourself. The point of a roast is to, you guessed it, roast someone. Weiss and Notre Dame don’t like it; dont’t watch or win a few games and people won’t rip on you. Keep it up Dana. I thought you were great before this occurred and I have not changed my opinion one bit.
Sorry to inform you believers out there but the overwhelming evidence suggests that Jesus never existed. Therefore Ms. Jacobson’s comments were directed at a mythelogical character that was invented by shyster priests in the third century. Jesus has no more relevance than Santa Claus or the Easter bunny.
Bump
It is clear she is an Anti-Christian. BTW, this (i.e. the denigration of different races, religions, and creeds) seems to be a pattern of behavior for ESPN anchors.
The Catholic Church teaches that no one is saved outside the Catholic Church, that no one is saved without the Catholic Faith, and that no one is saved in a non-Catholic religion.
Not the Vatican II counterchurch of Benedict XVI.
Pope Gregory XVI, Mirari Vos (# 13), Aug. 15, 1832: “With the admonition of the apostle, that ‘there is one God, one faith, one baptism’ (Eph. 4:5), may those fear who contrive the notion that the safe harbor of salvation is open to persons of any religion whatever. They should consider the testimony of Christ Himself that ‘those who are not with Christ are against Him,’ (Lk. 11:23) and that they disperse unhappily who do not gather with Him. Therefore, ‘without a doubt, they will perish forever, unless they hold the Catholic faith whole and inviolate (Athanasian Creed).â€
Pope Gregory XVI, Summo Iugiter Studio (# 2), May 27, 1832:
“Finally some of these misguided people attempt to persuade themselves and others that men are not saved only in the Catholic religion, but that even heretics may attain eternal life.â€
Pope Eugene IV, Council of Florence, “Cantate Domino,†1441, ex cathedra:
“The Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that all those who are outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans but also Jews or heretics and schismatics, cannot share in eternal life and will go into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless they are joined to the Church before the end of their lives; that the unity of this ecclesiastical body is of such importance that only those who abide in it do the Church’s sacraments contribute to salvation and do fasts, almsgiving and other works of piety and practices of the Christian militia productive of eternal rewards; and that nobody can be saved, no matter how much he has given away in alms and even if he has shed blood in the name of Christ, unless he has persevered in the bosom and unity of the Catholic Church.â€

“… we bear in mind what was promised about the holy Church and Him who said the gates of hell will not prevail against it (by these we understand the death-dealing tongues of heretics)…â€
Pope St. Leo IX, Sept. 2, 1053:
“The holy Church built upon a rock, that is Christ, and upon Peter… because by the gates of Hell, that is, by the disputations of heretics which lead the vain to destruction, it would never be overcome.†(Denz. 351)

Bingo! Marty
Hey Rob while you were posting all the Pope quotes, you left out this gem. “What profit has not that fable of Christ brought us!” – Pope Leo X
Is Dana Jacobson’s father Lurch from the Adam’s family? Is her Uncle Brit Hume? Her face is longer than the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway! It’s no wonder she’s slugging vodka straight from the bottle. Holy Schnikees!
if you say “f..k”mohammad,in iran, you do the math.you have nice smile in close up photo.like Dave from Dunkirk says
Jacobson is a professional journalist. This being said, she knows the power of the media, words and thought provocation. Like Michael Richardson’s rant on blacks or Al Sharpton’s hate whitey speeches, she knows better. Jesse Jackson, Louis Farakan,U.S. Senator Bob Byrd, former U.S. Senator Bob Kerry all made repeated bigoted comments with a pass. Why? They are all liberals. Let a Conservative make even a vague comment and its a lynch mob from the elite liberal media. Hollyweird’s hatefest against Christians,Conservatives, and the Republican Party is witnessed everyday. Historically, this was fuel by the NAZI Party and other dangerous factions. The backlash is building and history will repeat itself from forgotten ignorance.
It never ceases to amaze me how many Jews are flaming Demon-crap liberal, and how many of them stop at nothing to denounce Christians. Christians are the best friends Jews have in the U.S. Christians who are absolute believers in Christ and not one of the watered down counterfeit liberals have always supported the right of existance of Israel. Jessie “The Fake” Jackson, Al “The Christian and Jew hater” Sharpton and Louie “fake-a-con are all anitJew in their venom speachs. What party supports Israel, and what party supports Islamic terrorist? Jews think bias against them is bad now, see what happens if the Demons control both Houses and the White House.
So Jacobson gets a pass cuz she was drunk . . . In my book, that adds up to two strikes against you, not one.
I know the best way to penance Jacobson! For the true Notre Dame take on Dana, go to http://www.fightingirishthomas.net/2008/01/trashing-catholic-church-university.html on Fighting Irish Thomas.net.
Actually the majority of the folks here, both religious and non, are not getting the point. There really is no comparison between making a slur against anyone’s particular ethnicity, sexual preference, or socio-economic level, and making a slur against Jesus Christ. It’s not even the same as making a slur against Mohammed or any other religious leader. Jesus isn’t equal to anyone, he is above all. Afterall, he is the Creator. The comforting thing to know is that God (including the second person in the Trinity, Jesus Christ) always conquers all of his enemies, and this will be manifest on the Last Day. He either converts them by his grace, or condemns them by his justice. There is no inbetween. And for the so-called religious or Catholic or Evangelicals who are not offended by the statements made by Dana Jacobson (and the lack of concern by the media at large) my advice (and the Bible’s advice) is, don’t deceive yourself. If you’re not offended, there’s a reason. It means you are not found within the covenant, and just as those who were not in the ark when the flood waters came, way back with that faithful fellow named Noah, you too, like those who scoffed, and didn’t think that their lives were an offense to God, the “water” of judgement will come upon you as well as Dana Jacobson (unless God has mercy upon her, bringing her to repentance and faith) and there will be no more recourse. There will be no “second chance”. God is not mocked.
This Catholic vs. Jewish sludgefest that this has caused some people to engage in is ridiculous. Some of you are reading way too much into this.
Poor Dana probably tried to hurl herself into the spirit of this event and be “one of the guys.” That includes drinking with the guys (normally a recipe for disaster for a comparatively petite woman). Did she honestly think she could match drinks with men twice her size? A few too many swigs from the vodka bottle and the line gets blurred between what’s bawdy/funny and what’s tasteless and inappropriate.
I am a Christian, and I certainly am not thrilled when the Lord’s name is disrespected. However, it’s strange to see Christians falling into the same type of politically correct outrage that all sorts of advocacy groups engage in. Ms. Jacobson is not the first person to have too much to drink and then do or say something regretable-and she won’t be the last.
This practice of demanding someone’s professional head on a platter simply because they said something stupid has gotten out of hand, and really needs to stop. Ms. Jacobson’s years of work for ESPN should not be thrown in the trash can just because of one regretable evening.
I do, however, think that a four week suspension, not just one, is more appropriate. Give Ms. Jacobson plenty of time to think about it, and let it really sink in what an [edited] she made of herself. Make sure that everyone BUT her is covering the Super Bowl. That would be a tough one to take for a “sports journalist”.
For her reinstatement, a heartfelt apology should suffice. If Jesus was about anything, it’s forgiveness.
Everyone seems to be ignoring the fact the message was delivered by a Jew, is being defended by Jews, and was planned as a promotion of a Jewish radio talk show host. It sure looks like Christian hate to me.
Am I the only one that noticed that post #43 above is one, long, continous, run-on sentence?
As for this topic, I am a Catholic and agree that there are double standards in all aspects of life. Whether the comment is about race, sex orientation, religous, gender or any other group, this country has become so skewed towards political correctness that people are afraid to say anything for fear of persecution.
We have become a bunch of thin-skinned wimps that cannot take criticism or a joke without running to whatever organized group that might exist to help protect your feelings. Heaven forbid we ‘offend’ someone…we might hurt their feelings…
This was once a great country where it was OK for a man to act masculine, where it was OK for women to act feminine and where political action groups did not run out government with their own private agendas.
You know, everyone does not come in first, we don’t all get A’s in school, we can’t all be CEO’s of companies, we are not owed anything just because you feel you were dealt a bad hand in life. Success and respect are earned through your own actions. There are plenty of examples in history of people achieving success regardless of obstacles they faced in achieving that sucess.
Worry less about what other people say about you. Worry more about what you can do to make yourself a better human being, a better friend, a better brother or sister, a better father or mother. Regardless of religion, faith or belief, we can all be better human beings.
And I can not remember the post # above, but they made a great point – worry less about the entertainment world and worry more about the upcoming 2008 elections that will have a REAL impact in your lives. You need to worry less about the Paris Hilton’s of the world and worry more about how these elections will impact your world.
Some of you on here prove what idiots you really are – so, because its a roast, she is entitled to offend millions of people while representing ESPN at a public function?
Yes. It’s called the First Amendment. So yes, in fact she is “entitled” to say whatever the hell she wants. And you are entitled to be offended by it, just like all those crazy Muslims who got upset about a cartoon.
So Dana Jacobson publicly blasphemes Jesus (not to mention Notre Dame), and ESPN lets her get away with it? Not so fast says Fighting Irish Thomas in:
“Upholding Our Lady’s Honor: Defending Notre Dame from ‘Nostradamus Dana’ Jacobson” –
http://www.fightingirishthomas.net/2008/01/upholding-our-ladys-honor-defending.html
Call ESPN at 860-766-2232 to demand that Ms Jacobson be fired. If an ESPN personality had joked “f*ck holocaust†or “f*ck Mohammedâ€, he/she would have been fired right away. She is Jewish. Obviously the alcohol let her true feelings come out.
